Selections include a variety of influences which provide a historical and aesthetic view of the American musical landscape. The works of both well-known, classically trained composers and unknown folk artists are featured in standard notation arrangements suitable for performance by intermediate players. This publication is designed to raise interest in contemporary music and create a personal relationship with unconventional forms ofmusic and music-making among the age group most receptive to these, that is, elementary school children. The pieces featured in it are in widely differing styles and by composers of different age groups and levels of recognition: Janos Bali, Adam Kondor, Gabor Kosa, Gyorgy Kurtag Jr., Csaba Lauran, Dora Petery, Vera Ronkos, Laszlo Sary, Andras Soos, Mate Szigeti and Peter Tornyai. Although 'creativity' plays a central role, this volume is not intended for training professional composers. It serves merely to encourage children to engage in the life-giving and pleasurable activities of listening to and forming sounds.

This collection of melodies offers a selection of the most attractive recorder tunes from the folk music of the Carpathian Basin, and also provides some insight into Romanian recorder music. Performances by folk musicians on the 6-hole folk recorder have been preserved on sound recordings and noted down by scholars. On this basis the editor has made practical transcriptions, in simplified notation. Material of this nature has up till now been unavailable to students and performing artists using modern wind instruments. This collection of unusual, nobly simple melodies and complex, virtuoso pieces is equally suitable for teaching purposes and for enlarging the repertoire ofinstrumental artists.

German baroque composer, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was a self-taught multi-instrumentalist, becoming a composer against his family's wishes. However, his musical career saw him hold important positions and to this day, he remains a major composer. His sublime 12 Fantasies for Flute is superbly arranged for Recorder by Jean-Claude Veilhan. Telemann composed his 12 Fantasies for solo Flute in 1732-33 in Hamburg. During this time, he composed a wealth of solo instrumental music, including those for Harpsichord and Violin. Veilhan's arrangement for Recorder of Telemann's 12 Fantasies includes adaptions for the instrument, such as key signatures and performance directions. Vailhan's rearrangement for the Recorder of Telemann's popular 12 Fantasies makes the popular genre more accessible and versatile..

Includes pieces by Janos Bali, Gyorgy Kurtag Jr., Andras Soos, and others. With detailed commentary, photos, and graphics. This book is a proclamation: it calls for artistic thinking that is intellectually liberated, musically appropriate to the material and appealing (that is, community-creating). It is addressed to those who in music do not merely look for the finished product, but are curious about the genesis and possibilities of music... --from book's foreword.
