Moonlight Serenade was composed in 1939, by Glenn Miller in his typically American big-band style. It was an immediate success and it even became the signature tune of Glenn Miller. The catchy melody has since been used in various films and television series. It has been performed in many styles, from romantic to swinging. The Flanders Recorder Quartet likes to play this work with a low recorder consort: tenor, F bass, C bass, great bass (each instrument then plays an octave lower). This gives the work a slightly “close harmony†feel. In 1982 Karel van Steenhoven, founder member of the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet, wrote this modal composition Silent Danger for his ensemble. It is an experimental and witty work, a play on tones, chords, sounds and unusual effects. The idea behind it is described by Steenhoven as follows: 'As long as music is without aim, it remains free, versatile, is developing; when it seeks an aim, it becomes rigid, gets stuck in repeated chords.' - a rewarding task for performers, and a composition worth listening to for the audience.

Here, for Recorder Quartet, is a new version of Mancini’s classic montage of symphonic and jazz writing, Baby Elephant Walk. The English composer Henry Purcell was born in Westminster in 1659 where he also died in 1695. Purcell was an important Baroque composer, writing both vocal and instrumental works.
