Soli STB, SATB Choir, 2 Ob, Cor, Org obl, 2 Vl, Va, Bc - Level 3 SKU: CA.3107349 Cantata for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Paul Horn. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Epiphany. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1724. BWV 73. 16 pages. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.073/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3107349). Key: G minor / c minor. Language: German/English. In 1724, Bach composed the cantata Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir [Lord, as you will, do unto me] BWV 73 for the third Epiphany Sunday. Like in some other cantatas from the first annual cycle, the opening movement contains a part for corno which would in fact have been unplayable on an instrument of that era - probably also a reason why Bach allocated this part to the organ in a repeat performance (both variants can be performed using the Carus edition). The unusual choral movement, interrupted by recitatives, is based quite substantially on a short four-note motive which is introduced by the horn; at the end of the chorus, the choir sings it to the words Herr, wie du willt [Lord, as you will] - an avowal which also quite substantially characterizes other movements of the cantata. Duration 14 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.130/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3113014). ISBN 9790007207861. Text language: German/English. As in all cantatas for St. Michael the chorale cantata Lord God, we praise thee all of us BWV 130 from 1724 is a magnificent composition. Not only in the opening chorus and the final chorale do the three trumpets and timpani play a role, but the first aria In hell the serpent, hot with hate is even accompanied solely by trumpets, timpani and continuo. The second aria, Thou, of cherubim the master, brings an unexpected contrast in which, besides the tenor and continuo, on a solo flute is heard. The original set of parts were separated from each other in the 19th century and today are scattered throughout the world. BWV BWV 69a. 8 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.069/61. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3106961). ISBN 9790007206697. Text language: German/English. Bach's Cantata BWV 69a of 1723, which has remained largely unknown to the present day, is now available for the first time in a practical edition with this Carus publication. It has been unjustly neglected as it was overshadowed by the Cantata BWV 69 of the same name, a piece which Bach reworked to celebrate the inauguration of Leipzig Town Council in 1748. On that occasion Bach re-used the parts from 1723 for simplicity, and adapted them for the new use by means of cuts, alterations, and additions - something which certainly did not mean that he rejected the 1723 version. This version can readily be recovered from the parts of 1723, if we explore beyond the alterations of 1748. With its rich wind instruments and great opening chorus, the 1723 cantata is in no way inferior to the later festive music in terms of musical splendor. The text takes the Gospel reading about the healing of the deaf and dumb man as a reason for praise and thanks for God's good deeds. In contrast to the later version, in which God is thanked for the wisdom of the Leipzig authorities, the original version of 1723 is free of such contemporary references, and is suitable for use in worship and concerts in many different ways. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Klaus Hofmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Violin 2. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Trinity. Single Part, Violin 2. BWV BWV 69a. 8 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.069/62. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3106962). ISBN 9790007206703. SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, bassoon, 2 violins, basso continuo SKU: CA.3115019 Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Klaus Hofmann. Arranged by Klaus Hofmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed circa 1706. BWV 150. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.150/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3115019). ISBN 9790007136819. Key: B minor. Language: German/English. The cantata Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich (O my Lord, I long for thee) BWV 150 is one of the earliest cantatas from Bach's Muhlhausen period. Its authenticity was long disputed, partly because of the stylistic characteristics of this early work, but also because the cantata only survives in sources dating from the period after Bach's death. However, in recent years a hidden dedication to Conrad Meckbach, a member of the Muhlhausen town council and patron of Bach, has been deciphered: the initial letters of the free poetry reveal the acrostic Doctor Conrad Meckbach (in the 18th century spelling), revealing a link to the city of Muhlhausen and almost certainly confirming Bach's authorship of the cantata. The occasion of the composition of the work is still unknown. The small instrumental scoring for just two violins, bassoon, and continuo, plus the fact that only the soprano is given a solo movement, suggest a performance with modest resources. SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes, 3 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola, organ obligato SKU: CA.3102905 Cantata for the inauguration of a new town council. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Hans Grischkat, Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Praise and thanks. Choral Score. Composed 1731. BWV 29. 8 pages. Duration 28 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.029/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3102905). ISBN 9790007042394. Key: D major. Language: German/English. Bach's cantata Wir danken dir, Gott, wir danken dir of 1731, composed for the inauguration of the Leipzig town council, is one of the cantatas which has an obbligato organ part. In the introductory Sinfonia (an arrangement of the opening movement of the Partita in E for solo violin) and the final aria, the organ has a prominent solo part. The final aria is a transposed repetition of the first aria in the cantata, which frames its central section as a motto Halleluja, Stark und Macht sei dem allerhochsten Namen. However, the high point of the cantata is the magnificent choral movement which precedes the first Halleluja. Bach also re-used this music later in the Gratias and Dona nobis pacem sections of the Mass in B minor. New revised edition.
