SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes, english horn, bassoon, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3118662 Cantata for the 7th Sunday after Trinity. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Violin 2. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Advent. Single Part, Violin 2. Composed 1723. BWV 186. 12 pages. Duration 40 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.186/62. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3118662). ISBN 9790007209919. Key: G minor / c dorian. Text language: German/English. The cantata Argre dich, o Seele, nicht BWV 186 is in a sense the companion work to the much better-known cantata Herz und Mund und Tat und Leben BWV 147. Both were composed in Advent 1716 as Bach's last two cantatas for the Weimar court, and both were arranged for another Sunday in Bach's first Leipzig cantata cycle by the addition of recitatives and a large-scale chorale movement, heard at the end of both parts. The sound of the Cantata BWV 186 is characterized by the four-part woodwind ensemble writing. The final chorale, heard twice, anticipates the opening choruses of the chorale cantatas from Bach's second cycle. Cantata BWV 186 for the 7th Sunday after Trinity is a considerably expanded reworking of a Weimar Advent cantata of 1716. Only the text survives of the Advent cantata, but Diethard Hellmann has been able to reconstruct the work from the later version (Carus 31.186). Single Part, Viola. Composed 1724. BWV 26. 4 pages. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.026/13. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3102613). ISBN 9790007205287. Language: German/English. Bach's cantata BWV 26 belongs to the Leipzig cycle of chorale cantatas, 1724/25, and it was first performed on 19 November 1724. The underlying 13-vers hymn by Michael Franck provided Bach and his unidentified librettist with an abundance of metaphors and comparisons which, from verse to verse and movement to movement, illustrate the fleeting and transitory nature of earthly life: an impressive musical-poetic exposition of potent baroque pictures of vanity.. Soloists, Choir, Orchestra (Mixed choir (SATB)) SKU: BA.BA10172-91 Cantata for Whitsunday. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Dietrich Kilian. This edition: urtext edition. Stapled. Barenreiter Urtext. C major version. Choral score. BWV 172. 8 pages. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA10172_91. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA10172-91). ISBN 9790006491513. 27 x 19 cm inches. Key: C major. Erschallet, ihr Lieder (BWV 172) is one of those early Bach cantatas which were often revived at Leipzig. The first performance of this work was given in Weimar 1714. Although only a few instrumental parts from this performance are extant, it may be assumed that at that time the cantata already had the form familiar to us from its first Leipzig revival. It was given in C major (church pitch, corresponding to D major in chamber pitch), and the first number was intended to be repeated at the end of the work.

Besides the Weihnachtsoratorium BVW 248, Bach composed an additional work for the feast days of the church year 1734/35: The Himmelfahrtsoratorium BWV 11 (Ascension Oratorio). Although in its dimensions and character the oratorio is akin to his cantatas, it occupies a special position as a result of the epic text on which it is based; the text includes a biblical story. Bach's cantata BWV 13 (from the third cycle of Leipzig cantatas) was first performed on the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany in 1726. This work is marked especially by its scoring, unusual in Bach's church music, in which the strings are joined by two recorders and an oboe da caccia: these wind instruments are used to convey the dominant affections of sighing and pain in the individual arias. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3101149). ISBN 9790007042073. Key: D major. Language: German. In particular, the festive atmosphere and instrumentation of the opening and closing choruses mirror the triumphant joy of Christ's ascension. This is a new edition in the Stuttgart Bach Editions series, edited by Ulrich Leisinger.
