Edited by Pietro Zappala. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Mendelssohn. Violin 1. Innovative practice aids, Sacred vocal music, Mass sections, Christmas. Single Part, Violin 1. Composed 1821/22. MWV A 1. 8 pages. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 40.483/11. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.4048311). ISBN 9790007218768. Key: E flat major. Language: Latin. The Gloria, composed in early 1822 at the age of 13, is Mendelssohn's first creative venture in the field of church music on a larger scale. It is a direct result of his composition studies under the director of the Berlin Singakademie Carl Friedrich Zelter, but was no longer wholly a student work because the young composer hoped that Zelter would provide him with an opportunity to perform this work with the Singakademie. The enthusiasm for Handel and Bach which was sustained by the performances at the Singakademie influenced Mendelssohn's early creative style. In the Gloria Mendelssohn sought to emulate the model of the large-scale baroque cantata. The concluding fugue, the mysterious Qui tollis and lyrical solos ensembles in the place of solo arias give testimony to Mendelssohn's great talent and willingness to experiment. (Soli SATB, Coro SATB, 2 Corni di bassetto, 2 Fg, 2 Tr, 3 Trb, Timp, 2 Vl, Va, Bc) SKU: CA.5165219 Completed and edited by Howard Arman. Composed by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Edited by Howard Arman. Arranged by Howard Arman. Set of Orchestra Parts. KV 626. Duration 50 minutes. Carus Verlag #5165219. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5165219). ISBN 9790007313883. Key: D minor. Latin. The English conductor and composer Howard Arman has presented us with a completed version of Mozartâs Requiem. âAnother one?â you might ask, since this publication is only the latest in a long line reaching back to the traditional SüÃmayr version. Yet such is the enormous power of Mozartâs score that the challenge and appeal of completing it remain undiminished. After two decades of intensive study, Howard Armanâs additions to Mozartâs great original show the requisite care and respect while incorporating many new insights.
Armanâs approach is particularly fruitful. Always aware of the appropriate limits to such re-creative work, he orients himself towards the typical characteristics of Mozartâs brilliant composing style: The masterly compositional technique, the search for innovative solutions to every problem, and even the terse treatment of the text with extremely suggestive harmonies. All of this leads to a number of new listening experiences. In the Tuba mirum, for example, we enjoy a warm, cohesive ensemble sound, supported by the bassoons, which depart from the bass line. The Confutatis presents a quite different picture: Even the basset horns are drawn down into the infernal depths. This effect is reinforced by the independence of the trombones; rather than simply following the choral parts, the instrumentâs unique sound is given an opportunity to shine. Armanâs Lacrimosa achieves a lively Mozartian feel by granting the voices considerable freedom rather than following a rigid pattern. And he concludes the movement with a fugal Amen, whereby the focus is not so much on the counterpoint itself, but rather â in the spirit of Mozart â on creating a sense of drama and illuminating the theme in all its possible facets. Mozartâs fragment ends with the Hostias, and so does Armanâs completion.
For the four following movements (Sanctus to Communio) we have nothing from Mozart, and so here, where the master is silent, Arman finally returns to SüÃmayr, the man who was closest to Mozart at the time of his death and whose efforts to fill the blank manuscripts still garner our respect today.
Armanâs version has already proven its practical value. The premiere with the Bavarian Radio Choir was enthusiastically received by audiences and press alike â and celebrated as offering a scholarly, entirely fresh perspective on Mozartâs masterpiece.

Text: von Matthisson, Friedrich. Today best known for his comic operas such as Zar und Zimmermann and Der Waffenschmied, Albert Lortzing was also a composer of sacred music. In 1822, inspired by the performances of great choral symphonic works at the Lower Rhine Music Festival, Lortzing, then aged only 21 years old, ventured to set a sacred anthem to music: In his Dich preist, Allmächtiger (Praise to you, Almighty) for four-part choir, soloists and orchestra, his love of opera shines through with memorable melodies, striking instrumentation and an expressive and diverse musical design that conjure up diverse scenes for the listener. The palette ranges from powerful wind passages praising Godââ¬â¢s omnipotence to 'classical' fugati and intimate solo and ensemble passages with transparent accompaniment.
The Urtext edition ââ¬â in fact the first printed version of the work ââ¬â is based on autograph sources. Drawing on the preparatory work and practical experience of church musician and conductor Wolfgang Helbich, this edition was completed by his son, the musicologist Martin Helbich. Vocal score and performance materials are also available. $83.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, timpani, 2 violins, viola, cello, contrabass SKU: CA.2729305 Version for chamber orchestra. Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Edited by Joachim Linckelmann. Arranged by Joachim Linckelmann. Carus sheet music series: Great choral works in small scorings. Sacred vocal music, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Choral Score. Composed 1876/1877. Op. 58. 36 pages. Duration 90 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.293/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2729305). ISBN 9790007181086. Text language: Latin. Antonin Dvorak's impressive Stabat Mater for soloists, chorus and orchestra is probably the best-known of the composer's sacred works. Some painful experiences - in 1875 his first daughter died, and in 1877 he lost two other children in quick succession - may have led to Dvorak's preoccupation with the suffering of the Mother of God, who stands weeping beneath the cross of her son. The music enters into the different moods of the liturgical texts with great sensitivity. Nine movements in slow to moderate tempi serve as a kind of Passion meditation, before the ecstasy of a vision of the resurrection wins the upper hand at the end of the tenth movement. With our newly-published arrangement for chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon, timpani, and strings), smaller choirs now have the opportunity of performing this work without the choir being drowned out by a large-scale symphony orchestra. The symphonic character of the work is nevertheless preserved. This scoring offers an optimal balance between transparency and orchestral sound. All vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are identical with the original version. Vocal score and choral score can be used also together with the original version, which is in preparation. $11.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Psalm 137 Super flumina Babylonis also known as By the rivers of Babylon was an inspiration for many composers including Camille Saint-Saëns. He repeatedly occupied himself with his psalm motet for solo soprano, mixed choir, saxophone quartet, string orchestra and organ, originally composed in 1854. Two of the four versions â?? the first version in Latin and a much later version in English for alto solo, SATB choir and piano â?? are now available for the first time in Urtext performing editions taking a meticulous account of all the sources.
Saint-Saëns lived up to his reputation as an innovative composer by exploring the use of the saxophone family in sacred music just a few years after the invention of these instruments. The successful combination of voice and saxophone creates a special sound experience.
