The â??Missa Divi Xaveriiâ? ZWV 12, an expansive and unusually richly scored work, marks a highlight in the uvre of Jan Dismas Zelenka (1679-1745). It was composed in 1729 while he was working at the Dresden court.The principal source of this first edition is the damaged autograph score which had long been kept under lock and key. Passages missing because of its damaged condition have been supplemented using secondary sources or reconstructed by Václav Luks, clearly marked as such in the musical text.The first performance to use the present new edition took place in the summer of 2014, when it was performed at the Utrecht Early Music Festival. A CD recording by Collegium 1704, conducted by Václav Luks, has been released by the label Accent (ACC 24301).

Today best known for his comic operas such as Zar und Zimmermann and Der Waffenschmied, Albert Lortzing was also a composer of sacred music. In 1822, inspired by the performances of great choral symphonic works at the Lower Rhine Music Festival, Lortzing, then aged only 21 years old, ventured to set a sacred anthem to music: In his Dich preist, Allmächtiger (Praise to you, Almighty) for four-part choir, soloists and orchestra, his love of opera shines through with memorable melodies, striking instrumentation and an expressive and diverse musical design that conjure up diverse scenes for the listener. The palette ranges from powerful wind passages praising Godââ¬â¢s omnipotence to 'classical' fugati and intimate solo and ensemble passages with transparent accompaniment.The Urtext edition ââ¬â in fact the first printed version of the work ââ¬â is based on autograph sources. Drawing on the preparatory work and practical experience of church musician and conductor Wolfgang Helbich, this edition was completed by his son, the musicologist Martin Helbich. This publication offers a source-critical edition of Mozartâ??s fragmentary â??Requiemâ? as well as an alternative to the traditional SüÃ?mayr version. It makes it possible to perform 1) the fragment, identified in print in both the score and the parts, 2) the authentic sections left incomplete by Mozart, now in a stylistically appropriate orchestration, and 3) those sections missing entirely in the fragment, newly added in Mozartâ??s idiom taking into account historical additions by SüÃ?mayr and Eybler.When completing the fragment, the editor drew on comprehensive comparative and analytical studies of Mozartâ??s church style and compositional workmanship. The influence of Handel and Bach manifested in his final years, particularly in the â??Requiemâ? fragment, is taken into account in those sections requiring completion or fresh composition.At two points readers may choose between alternative movements (or sections), since proceeding from SüÃ?mayrâ??s historical version, two divergent options cannot be weighed against each other but each one may well reflect Mozartâ??s intentions: the â??Lacrimosaâ? may end with or without â??Amenâ? fugue, and the â??Sanctusâ? may begin in the customary D major or in D minor.
