Soli SST(A)TB Voices, ST(A)TB Choir, 2 Fl, 2 Vl, 2 Va (Vl, Va), Vc/Tiorba/Org, Basso Continuo - Level 3 SKU: CA.2102913 Mitternachtsmesse zu Weihnachten. Composed by Marc-Antoine Charpentier. Edited by Hans Ryschawy. French Sacred Music. Viola 2. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin, Christmas. Single Part, Viola 2. H 9. 12 pages. Duration 25 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 21.029/13. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2102913). ISBN 9790007198213. Text language: Latin. Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Christmas mass, the Messe de Minuit, is throughly in the French tradition, celebrating the joyful news of the Birth of Christ with cheerful happiness. In this midnight mass, composed in 1694, ten traditional French Christmas hymns have been rearranged, lending the work a dance-like energy alongside charming tone coloring. In independent movements the relatively small instrumental ensemble consisting of two flutes, strings and organ plays a significant role in the musical events of this mass, alternating with various combinations of the vocal parts. Solo voices are only used together in small ensembles and, in accordance with the practices of the period, the boundaries between solo ensemble and choir are fluid, meaning that these solo passages can also be sung by members of the choir. Score and part available separately - see item CA.2102900. $12.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes, 2 bassoons, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 violins, viola, cello/contrabass, organ, [2 horns, 3 trombones] SKU: CA.4065712 Composed by Franz Schubert. Edited by Manuela Jahrmarker. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Schubert. German title: Messe In B Rev.2001. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin. Single Part, Violin 2. Composed 1815. D 324. 16 pages. Duration 30 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 40.657/12. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.4065712). ISBN 9790007085292. Key: B flat major. Language: Latin. With a total duration of about 30 minutes, Schubert's Mass in B flat major (D 324), written in 1815, is considerably longer than Mozart's and Haydn's classical Brevis masses, and its large instrumental ensemble with strings, woodwinds, brass and timpani even gives it a clearly solemn character. Overall, Schubert was inspired by the late Haydn style of the symphonic mass (e.g., the division into six large movements, the omission of arias for the vocal soloists who are instead juxtaposed with the choir, singing short passages either singly or as a group) without, of course, achieving its temporal expansion. This is a representative, musically appealing work that excels with its multi-layered, detailed text treatment. It is, therefore, suitable for special occasions and the high feasts of the church year and can be mastered well by experienced church choirs. The relatively unspectacular nature of the Spaur Mass may be one of the reasons for the fact that writers on music generally refer to it only as a peripheral work, a little sister of Mozart's important church works. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin. Choral Score. Composed circa 1775-1777. KV 258. 16 pages. Duration 20 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 40.627/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.4062705). ISBN 9790007084684. Key: C major. Language: Latin. The relatively unspectacular nature of the Spaur Mass may be one of the reasons for the fact that writers on music generally refer to it only as a peripheral work, a little sister of Mozart's important church works. With regard to scoring, the Spaur Mass belongs to the category of the missa solemnis, but its brevity and its stylistic character belong far more to the missa brevis. Unlike the Organ Solo Mass KV 259, here the soloistic element - both instrumental and vocal - is clearly integrated to the background in favour of the development of the whole ensemble. Language: Latin. In 1953, with timpani and trumpets a la Marseillaise, a French piece of music once again captured public attention (Eurovision Hymn) and a composer was rediscovered: the first recording of Marc-Antoine Charpentier's Te Deum H 146 was released. The introductory fanfare not only praised God but the Sun King Louis XIV, and it opens one of the greatest works of French Baroque music. Magnificent celebration and ardent pleading, effective choruses, arias and small ensembles, plus instrumental interludes combine to create a harmonious whole, drawing its higher meaning from Charpentier's musical-theological interpretation of the Latin hymn of praise that it is based on. Text: von Matthisson, Friedrich. Today best known for his comic operas such as Zar und Zimmermann and Der Waffenschmied, Albert Lortzing was also a composer of sacred music. In 1822, inspired by the performances of great choral symphonic works at the Lower Rhine Music Festival, Lortzing, then aged only 21 years old, ventured to set a sacred anthem to music: In his Dich preist, Allmächtiger (Praise to you, Almighty) for four-part choir, soloists and orchestra, his love of opera shines through with memorable melodies, striking instrumentation and an expressive and diverse musical design that conjure up diverse scenes for the listener. The palette ranges from powerful wind passages praising Godââ¬â¢s omnipotence to 'classical' fugati and intimate solo and ensemble passages with transparent accompaniment.
The Urtext edition ââ¬â in fact the first printed version of the work ââ¬â is based on autograph sources. Drawing on the preparatory work and practical experience of church musician and conductor Wolfgang Helbich, this edition was completed by his son, the musicologist Martin Helbich. Vocal score and performance materials are also available. $83.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra Soli STB, Coro SATB, 2 Vl, Va, Vc, Bc SKU: CA.3119607 Cantata for a wedding. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Solvej Donadel. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Wedding. Study score. Composed 1708. BWV 196. 36 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.196/07. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3119607). ISBN 9790007242411. Language: German/English. Especially due to the early date of its composition, from the pen of the just turned 22-year-old Johann Sebastian Bach, the cantata The Lord careth for us BWV 196 has its charm, and through its conciseness, as well as its simple scoring, it is quite accessible for performance by ensembles with only modest means. The cantata was composed on the occasion of a wedding in the 1797/08, the details of which cannot be exactly ascertained. The text of the libretto contains no freely written poetry, rather is drawn solely from the Bible (Psalm 115:12-13), there are no recitatives, and the arias are kept very short. The scoring is also of modest propoportions: In addtion to the solo voices soprano, tenor and bass, as well as a four-voice choir, only strings and basso continuo are requried. The cantata begins, as is typical early Bach cantatas, with a short instrumental sinfonia and ends, not with a chorale, but with a choral movement. Edited by Julia Doht. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. German title: Meine Seufzer, meine Tranen. Sacred vocal music, Epiphany. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed 1726. BWV 13. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.013/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3101319). ISBN 9790007138950. Language: German/English. Bach's cantata BWV 13 (from the third cycle of Leipzig cantatas) was first performed on the 2nd Sunday after Epiphany in 1726. This work is marked especially by its scoring, unusual in Bach's church music, in which the strings are joined by two recorders and an oboe da caccia: these wind instruments are used to convey the dominant affections of sighing and pain in the individual arias. In accordance with the intimate character of this cantata the four-part vocal ensemble is used only in the chorale at the end of the work.
