Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.56-0108). UPC: 688670221255. English, Latin. Psalms 142; Jeremiah 3:48, 52, 56. Invictus: A Passion addresses one of the world’s most powerful stories through the lens of the modern world. The texts, written or inspired by women, describe not only human suffering and persecution but also the human capacity for love and humility in the face of tyranny. Composer Howard Goodall is uniquely suited to bring these texts to life with music of emotional clarity and sweeping force. This excerpt is scored for soprano solo, SATB choir and piano. This fourth movement of the larger work is inspired by the extraordinary story of Irena Sendler née Krzyżanowska, a Polish nurse and head of Å»egota, the Polish Council to Aid Jews in the Second World War, whose personal interventions saved the lives of approximately 2,500 Jewish children in the Warsaw Ghetto, smuggling them to safety, acts of humanitarian bravery that eventually caused her arrest and torture by the Gestapo. She is honoured as Righteous Amongst the Nations at Yad Vashem, Jerusalem. The Latin texts of this movement are taken from the Book of Lamentations (“My eye hath run down with streams of water, for the destruction of the daughter of my people. My enemies have chased me and caught me like a bird, without cause…â€) and from Psalm 142, the Old Testament being the meeting-point of Sendler’s Catholicism and the Jewish tradition of those whose lives she saved. Orchestra SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 recorders, 2 oboes, 3 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 (3) violins, 2 violas, cello, basso continuo SKU: CA.5507549 Ode. Version of the first performance and version of 1751. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Felix Loy. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Handel. Organ. Innovative practice aids, Sacred vocal music, Oratorios. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1736/1751. HWV 75. 60 pages. Duration 85 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 55.075/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5507549). ISBN 9790007171315. Text language: German/English. For the magnificent opening of the oratorio season at the beginning of 1736 Handel presented a composition which, like hardly any of his other oratorios, gave him the opportunity to display his musical artistry: John Dryden's ode Alexander's Feast or the Power of Music, published in 1696, demonstrates the power of music by the example of the ancient hero, Alexander the Great. From the impressive lament on the death of Darius, the King of Persia, to the boisterous Praise of Bacchus Handel avails himself of the entire breadth of the musical representation of the emotions and the possibilities for expression. In the text by Newburg Hamilton added at the end of work St. Cecilia elevates the events of the ancient heathen story, which Handel expressed in plastic, skillful polyphony. Later, this homage to the patron saint of church music, Handel also present the opportunity to perform the work on St. Cecilia's Day (22 November). For the first time the present new edition is based consistently on Handel's conducting score, which he used for his own performances of the oratorio, thus not only eliminating timeworn errors, but also offering clarity concerning the choruses, the arias and recitatives, actually performed in Handel's concerts, as well as their sequence of performance. The new Carus edition offers two performance versions: the version of the premiere in 1736, as well as a revised version from 1751. Furthermore, the inclusion of the Concerto for Harp HWV 294 (CV 55.294) is also possible; Handel composed this work especially for Alexander's Feast (as an illustration of Timotheus, the ancient poet who played the lyre). For this purpose the edition contains the appropriate alternatives for the sequence of the movements. D 383. Duration 37 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 70.065/09. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.7006509). ISBN 9790007244729. Language: German. In spring 1816 Franz Schubert, just nineteen years old, completed his second setting of the Stabat Mater in the midst of a highly productive period. In contrast with his first setting written the previous year, just five minutes in length, this time Schubert used the German translation by Klopstock as the basis for his composition. Stefan Schuck's edition is the first one of this work to be based on a critical evaluation of the primary sources, with complete performance material. The work, in a dark F minor, with its text by Klopstock, places Jesus Christ, rather than Mary, at the center of the contemplation. With his fugues, but particularly in the eight-part lamenting chorus Wer wird Zahren sanften Mitleids, Schubert shows himself at the height of his creative output. He composed his 4th Symphony, the Tragic, at almost the same time. The Stabat Mater is a rewarding work for choral societies and choirs to perform, because the choir has the largest portion to sing, and the choral parts are not too demanding. The composition is also a beautiful introduction to the choral-symphonic music of Schubert for less experienced choirs. Orchestra Soli STB, Coro SATB, 2 Fl, 2 Ob, 2 Fg, Cfg, 2 Cor, 3 Trb, 2 Vl, Va, Vc, Cb SKU: CA.7006514 Composed by Franz Schubert. Edited by Stefan Schuck. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Schubert. Violoncello/double bass. Sacred vocal music, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week, Feasts of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Hymns in praise of the Virgin Mary. Single Part, Cello/Double Bass. D 383. 16 pages. Duration 37 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 70.065/14. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.7006514). ISBN 9790007244750. Orchestra SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 recorders, 2 oboes, 3 bassoons, 2 horns, 2 trumpets, timpani, 2 (3) violins, 2 violas, cello, basso continuo SKU: CA.5507505 Ode. Version of the first performance and version of 1751. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Felix Loy. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Handel. Innovative practice aids, Sacred vocal music, Oratorios. Choral Score. Composed 1736/1751. HWV 75. 40 pages. Duration 85 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 55.075/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.5507505). ISBN 9790007171230.
