ISBN 9790007294533. Key: E flat major. Latin. Schubertâ??s Mass in E-flat major is the last of his six settings of the Ordinarium Missae (Mass ordinary) and also his most important work in this genre. The mass is full of color and drama, infused with the spirit of confession. For many choirs, it is on the wish list of those works they would like to sing someday. But what happens if you donâ??t have enough singers, money is tight, and your venue is on the small side? Here the experienced arranger and orchestral musician Joachim Linckelmann has a great solution. His version for soloists, choir and chamber orchestra requires only 7 winds rather than the original 13. The string parts, while identical to the original, can now also be scaled back. The vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are completely untouched by the arrangement, so that the vocal scores and choral scores of the Carus Urtext edition can also be used for performanceâ?¢,A large-scale work now arranged for smaller choirs â?¢,13 winds of the original version reduced to 7 instrumentsâ?¢,Vocal scores and choral scores of the original version can still be usedâ?¢,carus plus: The work (original version) is available in the app carus music, the Choir Coach, as well as in our Carus Choir Coach series (audio only).. Duration 2 hours, 15 minutes. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA08708_01. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA08708-01). ISBN 9790006537846. 33 x 27 cm inches. Text Language: French. Preface: Prévost, Paul / Macdonald, Hugh. Text: Leterrier, Eugène / Vanloo, Albert. WithL'Etoile, Chabrier composed a light-hearted opera which has increasingly enjoyed revivals in recent years. The plot is introduced by King Ouf I who offers his subjects an execution every year on his birthday. Unfortunately the problem now arises that no crime has recently been committed which might serve as a reason for an execution. Finally, he finds a would-be victim in the young Lazuli. However, according to predictions by the astrologer Siroco, Lazuli's fate is closely linked to the king's own life. The comic opera is further bolstered by a story of mistaken identities which involves a great deal of diplomacy, a love story and a large number of refined, yet catchy melodies. Chabrier was a master of the sensitive and complicated art of musical comedy, a field where he can be compared in equal measure to Offenbach, Rossini and Mozart.
This vocal score is based on the full score edited by Hugh Macdonald which is published as part of the seriesL'Opera francais. - Authoritative Urtext edition based on the seriesL'Opera francais - Original French text with a German singing translation - Comprehensive foreword (Ger/Eng/Fr)

Sandra Dackow Little Known Gem - Grade IV+. Ed. by Hoffmann. This delightful set of works in the keys of G, A, and B-flat major takes full advantage of multiple stops, chords, and fiddle writing that lays easily under the hand and is fun to play. The fast movements are vigorous and the contrasting slow movements are not particularly fussy or florid, though they include some ornamentation. In the Allegro sections, musicians should approach the playing as they would a work by Haydn or Mozart: eighth and quarter notes off the string and at the frog, and sixteenth notes on the string. Stamitz's players would have followed the general rule of the down bow, where the strong beat would begin with a down bow. In Concerto No. 1 in G, the Violin I parts reach to sixth position, requiring high G's. Unusual writing for its time, these passages are both logical and easy for players to find and hear. Cello and bass parts reach high F's on occasion and require third, fourth and fifth positions. The second violin and viola parts do not require extended ranges, making this work practical for an upper intermediate orchestra. The slow movements transition between different keys and requires the low strings to use extension notes such as G-sharp and A-sharp. $15.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Semele, HWV 58 Soli, Mixted choir and accompaniment Soli, mixted choir, orchestra Barenreiter
Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA04025-01 Composed by George Fr...(+)
Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA04025-01 Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gesellschaft e. V. Risinger and Mark. This edition: Complete edition. Linen. Complete edition, Score. HWV 58. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA04025-01. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA04025-01). ISBN 9790006443222. 33 x 26 cm inches. Text Language: English. Handelâ??s â??Semeleâ?, which premiered in February 1744, is based on an adapted version of William Congreveâ??s opera libretto titled â??The Story of Semeleâ?, originally published in 1706. However, neither Handel nor his librettist referred to â??Semeleâ? as an opera or an oratorio, which, according to the understanding at the time, would have required a biblical and/or Christian subject matter. Contemporary audiences also disagreed on the genre. The problematic classification as an oratorio has persisted into the present day, likely due to the edition labeled as such by Chrysander. The â??Halle Handel Editionâ? (HHA) distances itself from this classification and, considering the available sources, refrains from assigning a genre label.
Congreve deviates from the mythological source multiple times in order to create tensions among the characters. The desired marriage between Semele and Athamas, whom she does not love, is an addition by Congreve to provoke the envy of her sister Ino, who desires Athamas herself. Therefore, Ino sees her own advantage in Semeleâ??s abduction by Jupiter. While Jupiterâ??s wife Juno decides to destroy Semele out of jealousy for his relationship with her, Jupiter brings Ino to his palace to console Semele. The vengeful Juno takes advantage of Inoâ??s presence and transforms into her likeness, persuading Semele to carry out a plan that later proves fatal. In the end, Ino emerges as the winner, as she is able to convince their father, Cadmus, to marry her to Athamas. The appearance of Apollo in the final scene to announce that Semeleâ??s immortal son Bacchus was saved from her ashes provides little consolation. However, this twist allows the drama to conclude with exuberant joy and a magnificent final chorus after the tragic scenes in the third act, culminating in the death of the protagonist.
Handelâ??s autograph score shows significant deviations from and numerous revisions of the original version premiered. All surviving early versions, the musical movements deleted before the premiere, and the version of the December 1744, are given in the appendix to the HHA.

The Gloria, composed in early 1822 at the age of 13, is Mendelssohn's first creative venture in the field of church music on a larger scale. It is a direct result of his composition studies under the director of the Berlin Singakademie Carl Friedrich Zelter, but was no longer wholly a student work because the young composer hoped that Zelter would provide him with an opportunity to perform this work with the Singakademie. The enthusiasm for Handel and Bach which was sustained by the performances at the Singakademie influenced Mendelssohn's early creative style. In the Gloria Mendelssohn sought to emulate the model of the large-scale baroque cantata. The concluding fugue, the mysterious Qui tollis and lyrical solos ensembles in the place of solo arias give testimony to Mendelssohn's great talent and willingness to experiment. Bach's nine-movement Magnificat (1749), the first great vocal work from his Berlin years, is among the most magnificent sounding, in which the solo vocal parts are also among the most ambitious settings of the Hymn to the Virgin Mary (Luke 1). The work fulfills all the criteria required for a larger sacred composition: grandeur, dignity, polyphonic and concertante choral movements, sensitive (empfindsam) and expressive arias, a long concluding double fugue. This richly scored Magnificat (with 3 trumpets and timp. ad. lib.), which is almost one hour in duration, would be well suited, for example, as the central work on every Christmas or pre-Christmas concert programme. Soli STB, SATB Choir, 2 Ob, Cor, Org obl, 2 Vl, Va, Bc - Level 3 SKU: CA.3107349 Cantata for the 3rd Sunday after Epiphany. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Paul Horn. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Epiphany. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1724. BWV 73. 16 pages. Duration 17 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.073/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3107349). Key: G minor / c minor. Language: German/English. In 1724, Bach composed the cantata Herr, wie du willt, so schicks mit mir [Lord, as you will, do unto me] BWV 73 for the third Epiphany Sunday. Like in some other cantatas from the first annual cycle, the opening movement contains a part for corno which would in fact have been unplayable on an instrument of that era - probably also a reason why Bach allocated this part to the organ in a repeat performance (both variants can be performed using the Carus edition). The unusual choral movement, interrupted by recitatives, is based quite substantially on a short four-note motive which is introduced by the horn; at the end of the chorus, the choir sings it to the words Herr, wie du willt [Lord, as you will] - an avowal which also quite substantially characterizes other movements of the cantata. Great patroness of us and harmony!â? â?? this exclamation opens the final chorus of Henry Purcellâ??s eponymous Ode to St. Cecilia from 1692. A paean to the power of music, the work is one of the undoubted masterpieces of English choral odes of that time. A resolution of the Musical Society of London in 1683 launched the great tradition of annual celebrations for St. Ceciliaâ??s Day (November 22), featuring a church service followed by performances of specially composed music. Over the years, Purcell wrote several odes for the occasion, of which this example from 1692 is one of the most popular. Four decades later, Handel would also contribute to the celebrations with his Alexanderâ??s Feast, HWV 75 (Carus 55.075), and his Ode for St. Ceciliaâ??s Day, HWV 76 (Carus 55.076).Purcellâ??s magnificent music, which features a huge range of tonal color and form, offers delightful parts for a variety of solo, ensemble, and choral settings. With its richly expressive palette, the Ode to St. Cecilia is an extremely rewarding work by the â??Orpheus Britannicusâ?, as Purcell was admiringly called by contemporaries.- Festive, rousing ode to music- Highlight of the choral ode genre in the 17th century $78.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
