The first edition of a Missa in F by Giovanni Platti (ca. 1690-1763) is a rarity. Platti served at the Court of the Counts of Schonborn-Wiesentheid, and during his more than 40 years of service at the Court he worked for more than five masters and each of them knew how to make use of his musical abilities. Thus, in addition to his position as a virtuoso oboist, singer and violinist, he was also entrusted with the musical education of musicians. The Missa in F major is primarily a composition for choir; it is very singable, its construction is transparent and it is accompanied by only four strings and an organ. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4067700.

During the summer of 1774 Mozart wrote two Masses within a few weeks: the Missa brevis in F major, K. 192, and the Missa brevis in D major, K. 194. A feature common to both compositions as well as to the Dixit et Magnificat K. 193, written at about the same time, and the Trinitias Mass K. 167 of the previous year, is a more or less strongly evident tendency towards contrapuntal writing. However, while the Dixit et Magnificat and the Trinitas Mass approach the late-baroque style, in these two brevis Masses Mozart sought to combine traditional polyphonic techniques with a more modern musical language. This work is now available in carus music, the choir app! Score and parts available separately - see item CA.4062500.

In composing the Cantata BWV 149 Bach reverted to parts of an earlier work: The opening chorus is a parody of the Jadgkantate BWV 208 (Hunting Cantata). In addition to smaller changes which were made necessary due to the text, Bach used trumpets instead of horns. For this purpose he transposed the movement from F major to C major. Musically, the form of the three arias and their instrumentation is rich in variety. The bass aria (2nd mvt.) is characterized by an active continuo accompaniment. After the secco recitative an extended dance like soprano aria with string accompaniment follows. The third aria (6th mvt.) is impressive due to the animated melody and the forming of a canon between the voices, and especially through the entry of the bassoon as the instrumental counterpart to a duet between the alto and tenor. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3114900.
