String Quartet No. 9 is the fourth that Wernick has written for the Juilliard Quartet. A commission by the Philadelphia Chamber Music Society, Wernick's ninth string quartet was premiered by the Juilliard in November, 2015 and subsequently taken on tour. The first movement's affect (marked 'Assertive, Aggressive') [compares] to Rockport's forbidding coastline in the eyes of the first. settlers. This was an apt analogy since the work's musical language is, in today's vernacular, 'gnarly.' [The second movement]...a 'never-ending throb of repeated notes'...the effect of steadily diminishing life-force, though with a 'final burst of hope from the solo cello.' Again, the composer made intriguing use of many of the different ways stringed instruments can produce sound. Geoffrey Wieting, The Boston Musical Intelligencer.

Ferdinand Kuchler is regarded as one of the great violin teachers of the 20th century, not least because of his violin method. His Concertino in G major Op. 11 still is a popular entry-level piece of concert literature even in today's violin lessons.Apart from the edition in the original instrumentation for violin and piano (SE 1001), this arrangement follows the title 'Concertino' and allows for early playing with string accompaniment - with string quartet and double-bass ad libitum or scored for multiple parts with string orchestra. Further individual orchestral parts are available for download at www.notafina.de. As an alternative to the viola part, a part for a third violin is notated as well. This edition is part of the new Schott Student Edition series which offers varied literature at five different levels of difficulty, from 1 (easy) to 5 (difficult), for instrumental lessons.

String Quartet No.2 was written in 1951, and dedicated to Percy and Ella Grainger. It is recognised as one of his least extravagant creations, but is nevertheless a solid work which is continually underappreciated. This is the set of parts.
Cyril Scott (1879-1970) was a British composer, pianist and poet. His most popular works, which he is largely remembered by today, were written in the years preceding the Second World War, however he continued to compose prolifically, in the face of indifference from the outside world, right up until his death at the age of 91. His music is predominantly in the Romantic style, and serves as atasteful reminder of a bygone age.

In autumn 1895, after returning from New York once and for all, Dvorák took up his former position as teacher at the Prague Conservatory. This clearly had an inspiring impact on him because in the space of just four weeks he composed a new string quartet in G major. Together with the Quartet in A-flat major op. 105, it forms a glorious close to his chamber music oeuvre. Echoes of Bohemian folk music are here mixed with cantabile themes, while his motivic working shows him to be a master at the height of his powers. Even today, it seems almost as if we can feel the composer's satisfaction with this work: “I am working so easily and it is going so smoothly that I could not wish it better.â€.
