The Legacy Solo Series contains masterworks meticulously edited and set beautifully by one of the most popular composers of music for students today, Larry Clark. These solos are routinely found on many state festival lists throughout the United States and are perfect for use at an adjudicated solo festival or recital. Commonly featured on college audition lists, these works are a cornerstone of the solo repertoire. Piano players will enjoy piano reductions that are clean and feature the solo line in concert pitch for easy rehearsal. Each Legacy Solo, compatible with Smartmusic, comes with beautifully set parts and piano accompaniment. Piano recordings for rehearsal or performance of each piece are available for download from the Excelcia Music Publishing website.

I've always been fascinated by the depth of expression in the song cycles of Robert Schumann, and have tried, in these two pieces, to emulate that using the trombone. Why the trombone? Well, it has a rich history of being 'paired' with the voice in choral music but, if I'm really honest, as a trumpet player I've always been a little bit envious of the trombone's lyrical elegance. The music, in both of these works, has a lot of 'dialogue' between the trombone and piano, I really did think of them as communicating - only without using words.

I remember well when I began to write these pieces: I sat down at the piano in the conservatory, which was almost completely empty at the time... and I improvised the first chords of the first piece. After that I wrote the theme. The music rang loudly in that large auditorium and I could hear how it echoed about the empty corridors of the conservatory... it reminded me of the overture from Charles Gounod's Faust, as my hands still played out the melodies, stretching the limits of the theme which would become, in a sense, the introduction to the whole cycle. I could feel that the story was emerging: a story born from within the music. - Anton GLADKIKH ; Hoffmanniada is a collection of six short pieces for trombone and piano composed in a style inspired by the great Russian composers of the twentieth century. Sometimes melancholic and romantic, sometimes cheerful and virtuoso, the writing subtlety of Anton Gladkikh perfectly exploits the qualities of power and finesse of both instruments. In a Cotton Club mood. The chasse-croise of quarter notes and eight notes triplets together with Piano incite to dance and remind us of cabarets' ambiance of the 1920s. This piece, coupled with a faster one is an ideal combination to propose for end of first cycle exam.
