This volume in the ABC series continues the best traditions of conventional trombone teaching on the one hand and at the same time accommodates to present-day requirements and changing tastes. The piano accompaniment to this volume is published separetely (14144P)The trombonist Ferenc Steiner was born in 1931. From 1960 to 1991 he was a member of the Hungarian State Opera and the Philharmonic Society as well as the Hungarian Brass Ensemble. Education played a major role in the life of Ferenc Steiner as an author and editor of numerous pedagogical editions. He began teaching at the School of Music in Pecs, then moved on to the College for Officers of the Hungarian Defense Forces and later continued his teaching activity at the Liszt Academy in Budapest until 2001. He has passed away on the 25th of March in 2011.

This wonderful unaccompanied work by Johann Sebastian Bach was, in all likelihood, written for the transverse flute, though that is by no means certain. In fact, there is an earlier version of the Allemande for a keyboard or stringed instrument.The Partita, originally in the key of A minor has been transposed down into D minor, putting it into a perfect range. In transcribing the work for trombone, Sauer has changed the original key of A minor to C minor and has revised the order of the movements to a more typical fast-slow-fast pattern. This work in three movements is suitable for advanced performers.

These Fantasias are part of a collection of Twelve Fantasias for Viola da Gamba Solo, originally published in 1735 but considered lost until rediscovered in 2015. Mr. Sauer has beautifully transcribed them for unaccompanied Tenor Trombone and are appropriate for advanced performers. His editorial dynamics have been included as suggestions.
