Following the huge success of their instrumental method Look, Listen and Learn, Michiel Oldenkamp and Jaap Kastelein have focussed their attention on school bands and devised a completely new method that can be used in both instrumental lessons and class bands or wind ensembles.
Learning Music Together is the new method for young wind players and percussionists, aged eight and above.
Learning Music Together has been developed in close collaboration with professionals from the class band world, music schools, and academies in the Netherlands and Germany.
Learning Music Together combines instrumental lessons with a course for class band. The tuba lessons offer tuba -specific items such as new notes and technical exercises while at the same time supporting the learning of the class band, with a focus on rhythm, melodic structure and playing music together. The method consists of two volumes. Volume One introduces the first instrumental notes in unison and then develops part-playing with duets. Composed by Roger Boutry, Tubaroqueis a melodious piece of baroque music for Tuba, Bb Bass Saxhorn or Bass Trombone with Piano accompaniment. Quite difficult, it would be perfect for advanced players and would work well in a concert. Starting with a small introduction in three measures, the first part of the piece begins on a Slow Waltz movement which consists of a main theme with two variations, including one played an octave lower. The second part Allegretto is more lyrical and the last one Moderato/Allegro, starts like a march to then go back to a more melodious finale. Roger Boutry is a French musician and contemporary composer who received eight First Prizes at the Conservatoire, including composition, conducting and Piano. He also won the Grand Prix de Rome in 1954 and some prizes by the SACEM and by the city of Paris. He also got involved as a professor of Harmony and director of Orchestras..

The Command Performance For Beginning Band book contains 14 complete band arrangements designed to be playable by students who have completed the first few lessons of their beginning band method book, and are written using the first 6 notes learned. Inside the conductor score book is a CD accompaniment for all 14 arrangements. Each of the background accompaniments has been created using MIDI technology.
