| String Quartet No. 1 String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello Bote and Bock
String Quartet (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.48025043 Score and Parts. C...(+)
String Quartet (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.48025043 Score and Parts. Composed by Ignace Strasfogal. Boosey & Hawkes Chamber Music. Classical, Modern, Neo Classical. Softcover. 76 pages. Bote & Bock #M202535806. Published by Bote & Bock (HL.48025043). UPC: 196288021728. Ignace Strasfogel (1909 - 1994), a master student of Franz Schreker and Leonid Kreutzer, the youngest student at the Berlin Hochschule and the youngest recipient of the prestigious Mendelssohn Prize of the Weimar Republic, made a career as a conductor at the Metropolitan Opera after his emigration in 1934. His String Quartet No. 1, probably written in 1927 as the final work of his studies with Schreker, is an early work of the highest perfection. In the first of the two movements, grotesque-capricious scenariosare revitalized by contrapuntal artistry. The second, non less polypohnic, is a widely branched scherzo with an elegiac trio section. Just as striking is the harmony: With individually shaping of all four parts, all facets up to polytonality and complete detachment from functional tonality are explored - in a certain affinity with the musical language of Alban Berg, not without tongue-in-cheek references to the neoclassicism of the 1920s. A just as original as important contribution to the quartet repertoireof the early twentieth century. $72.00 - See more - Buy online
| Patikka for violin, violoncello and piano [Score and Parts] Fennica Gehrman
Violin, violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-536-1 Composed by Kirmo Lintinen...(+)
Violin, violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-536-1 Composed by Kirmo Lintinen. Score and parts. Fennica Gehrman #55011-536-1. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-536-1). ISBN 9790550115361. Comissioned by Juvenalia Music Institute for a chamber music competition in 2012, Patikka (Trek) for piano trio (2011) is a perfect chamber music piece for young players. Idiomatic writing and clear, memorable characters create a transparent texture. Kirmo Lintinen (b. 1967) is a man of many musical talents: composer, pianist and conductor. His catalogue encompasses almost all gen-res and categories of composition, from solo work to opera, and he operates with ease from one to another without being a crossover artist; in his case, the versatility is both internalised and innate. He often finds inspiration in French music of the 1920s and its intrinsic musicality. Humour and playfulness are characteristic elements of his music, as are a natural, musicianly approach and an enchantingly effervescent, even tongue-in-cheek texture. $20.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
| Volklinger Hutte. Violin, Cello & Piano [Score and Parts] Stainer and Bell
Piano Trio (Violin, Cello & Piano) SKU: ST.Y285 Composed by Morgan Hayes....(+)
Piano Trio (Violin, Cello & Piano) SKU: ST.Y285 Composed by Morgan Hayes. String music. 6 minutes. Score and parts. Stainer & Bell Ltd. #Y285. Published by Stainer & Bell Ltd. (ST.Y285). ISBN 9790220223129. 1st perf: The Fidelio Trio (Darragh Morgan, violin, Robin Michael, cello, Mary Dullea, piano), The Forge, Camden Town, London, 20 February 2012 Goethe's dictum that architecture is frozen music has been a powerful stimulus for composers over the centuries, but in the case of Morgan Hayes the stark features of modern industrial buildings rather than the splendours of the Gothic or Baroque styles have been an impressive influence. In the case of his most recent work, Volklinger Hutte, the great German steel foundry of that name, in operation for over a hundred years, was the trigger for a powerful yet succinct one-movement structure for piano trio. Situated in the town of Volklingen, this extraordinary monument to German engineering prowess is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Hayes discovered it by chance, through a reference in a Lonely Planet guide while he was visiting nearby Saarbruken for a performance of another of his compositions. The austere beauty of the location has infused the music with sharp dynamic and timbral extremes which also suggest its awesome scale. Grinding, machine-like textures cheek by jowl with passages of reposeful silence also project the nostalgic atmosphere of the now silent plant contrasted with the bustle of its heyday, still echoing in the brutally functional geometrical forms of its corroding chimneys, cranes and blast furnaces. $12.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Key: D major. This piece features percussive techniques utilizing: tapping, strumming, rubbing, and brushing on string instruments. The piece's title may be tongue-in-cheek, but it asks the student to focus on their rhythmic skills. It is a creative and interesting way to break up your concert and to improve the counting and rhythmic reading skills of players. This piece features percussive techniques; tapping, strumming, rubbing, and brushing. The piece’s title may be tongue-in-cheek, but it is also informative as it advises against using knuckles (knocking) on the wood of the instrument. Instead, tap the wood on the top (front) of the instrument with two or three fingers. In m. 27, dampen the strings with the left hand and tap on the fingerboard with the right hand. In mm. 41–48, the viola is held like a guitar; the strings are dampened with the left hand, and the right hand strums. No pitches should sound. In mm. 77–80, the right hand rubs or brushes the front of the instrument. To prevent any damage, do not strike the instruments too hard.Focus on ensemble and dynamics; the sound will carry if the rhythms are executed precisely. $53.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Orchestra Cello, Contrabass, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3 - Grade ...(+)
Orchestra Cello, Contrabass, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, Violin 3 - Grade 2 SKU: CF.YAS179F Composed by Bud Woodruff. Young String Orchestra (YAS). Full score. With Standard notation. 12 pages. Carl Fischer Music #YAS179F. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YAS179F). ISBN 9781491151815. UPC: 680160909315. 9 x 12 inches. Key: F major. Bud Woodruff presents The Cat Is in the Kitchen, a tongue-in-cheek style piece with jazz influences that students enjoy playing. This quirky piece is designed to help students successfully navigate playing F-naturals and B-flats. Bud Woodruff draws on his lengthy career as a string educator to help students overcome the challenges in this piece.
I wrote The Cat Is in the Kitchen for a group of very talented young players who, for some reason, did not like Bb's, and particularly Bb's on the G string ... especially the cellos (who always faithfully played them as B naturals). They bore no great love for F naturals, either. So this piece is full of both. Since the students liked the sound of the piece, they overcame their dislikes, and all was just fine in the end ... mission accomplished! One will find that changing the bowings will change the accents, too, and the flavor of the piece will be lost. Without a doubt, there is a jazz influence, and the piece will be easier to teach if you approach it from that angle. Have the class work on m. 18 until everyone can play it ease. Then add m. 19 for the upper strings, and 90% of any issues the bowings may present will be solved. My kids loved playing this piece, and the audience enjoyed hearing it. I trust you will have the same results. .
