In Concerto dââ¬â¢Amore, a maestoso opening is followed by a quick and energetic movement that leads to a magnificent adagio. A motif from this adagio can be heard in a swinging movement, after which the piece comes to a close with the return of the adagio. This arrangement for concert band certainly brings this beautiful music to life. This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively. You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written. The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Many of them are musicians from different backgrounds (composition, performance, world music, etc.), which explains the creativity found in the pieces. All the pieces have been the subject of an audio recording available on the Productions dâÂÂOz website and on YouTube. Search for àvos guitares, prêt, joue!

This piece was written to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Takayama Wind Orchestra, who also commissioned it. The historic city of Takayama draws numerous visitors from home and abroad, not just to see its well-preserved old houses and buildings but also because every year several historic processions take place, with beautiful floats. When these ride through the city, age-old melodies are heard played on wooden flutes, accompanied by muted drums. This image is evoked at the beginning of the work, followed by an archaic sounding melody in a typically Japanese pentatonic sequence, that develops throughout. In this challenging piece Eastern and Western influences alternate, creating a sensational and overwhelming musical effect!

In composing Puszta, Jan Van der Roost wrote folk dances related to Slavonic folk music. Its character and sounds are comparable to the Hungarian and Slavonic dances by Brahms and Dvorak and to the Hungarian Rhapsodies by Liszt. All the melodies, however, are newly composed, not adapted from existing dances. The title of this thrilling piece indicates exactly what composer Johan Nijs wants his new work to be, a spectacular introduction. Spectroduction does not disappoint on both counts, grabbing the audiences attention from the first beat. This will make for a spectacular way to open your next concert. This programmatic piece tells the biblical story of the fall of Jericho. The music paints a vivid picture of the procession of armed men and seven priests marching around the city for seven days, before blowing their trumpets and to the cheers of the crowds watching as the walls came tumbling down. A dazzling opening work for any concert.

Crescent Moon is a festive overture composed by Jan Van der Roost and was commissioned by a Japanese wind band. The piece begins solemnly in the middle register but gradually becomes brighter and more brilliant as the moon rises in the sky andbegins to give more light. After this somewhat stately introduction, a virtuoso allegro emerges, displaying technical prowess in all registers, before the piece culminates with a joyful mood of optimism. An ideal concert opener, Crescent Moonwill fill your ears with joy and happiness!
