In this striking setting for second year players the first movement, in a lyric and melancholy style, portrays the selkie as a baby seal. The second movement depicts a young boy on land, and employs a number of characteristics of traditional Scottish folk tunes. Talking about her before the first performance, the composer said: 'She was open-hearted with a really tender soul, very trusting. Her creativity knew no limits; she was also an almost fanatical campaigner for music by women. In the music you will hear now I have attempted to convey some aspects of her personality: charming, loving, obstinate, committed, volatile, tragic, crazy, untamed, tender and anguished.' The various sections of this chorale may be performed in a correspondingly contrasting manner: searching, hesitant, visionary, focused, volatile, accusatory, hopeful, etc., with use of rubato and powerful contrasts in dynamic and tone quality. The registration for this edition was devised in the Church of the Resurrection in Furth. In 1931 Ottorino Respighi began composing the music for his most ambitious theatre work: Belkis, regina di Saba. The ballet describes the journey of Belkis, the Queen of Sheba, to Solomon, the King of Israel, with whom she was in love. She travels with a large caravan including elephants, camels, slaves and many valuable treasures, through the desert. Kimura has arranged this colourful Oriental suite for wind band.

The Organ Concerto was premiered in the Kartauserkirche, Koln in 1985. It received repeat performances in the Dresdner Diakonissenhauskirche and also with the Dresdner Philharmonie unter the direction of Jorg-Peter Weigle with Friedrich Kircheis as soloist. The three-movement concerto is designed so that the seven parts of the string section can also be played solistically for performances in a smaller setting.
