Text: Martin Luther. The opening movement of Bach's chorale cantata on Luther's In deepest need I cry to you BWV 38, which was composed for the 21st Sunday after Trinity Sunday, belongs to a group of cantatas whose opening choruses are not concertante but have been kept in the style of a motet; the instruments merely amplify the vocal parts. The archaic character of the movement is emphasized by the addition of a trombone quartet. An exciting recitative and an aria full of pungent harmonies is followed by an entirely unusual recitative in which the chorale melody forms the bass foundation for the vocal part. A second aria - which is no less unusual -is a trio which is only accompanied by the continuo; it leads into the concluding chorale which, pursuant to the 1st line of text Ob bei uns ist der Sunden viel, already begins with a brusque dissonance. Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1175759-030 (Extended Edition). Composed by Stephen Bulla. Concert and Contest Collection Brass Band en Fanfare. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2017. De Haske Publications #DHP 1175759-030. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1175759-030). English-German-French-Dutch. Frontier Vision is a concert or contest piece based on three elements: the commemoration of the 500th anniversary of Reformation Day, the Martin Luther melody, A Mighty Fortress Is Our God (Ein Feste Burg ist unser Gott) on whichthis composition is based, and thirdly the spreading of the evangelical movement in the late 19th century, of which the analogous storyline forms the structural basis of this work. Multi-cultural ethnic influences, along with the driving rhythms thatreflect the perseverance and hard work of those mission-minded pioneers, are both important components that make Frontier Vision an outstanding choice for your concert or contest. Frontier Vision was the test piece for the seconddivision in the Dutch National Brass Band Championships 2017.
$143.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboes/2 oboes d'amore, oboe da caccia, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo - Grade 3 SKU: CA.3108089 Cantata for Reformation Day. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3108089). ISBN 9790007206840. Key: D major. Text language: German/English. Text: Luther, Martin. Bach's Reformation cantata, based on what is probably Martin Luther's most famous hymn, evolved over a period of several years. At the beginning was a Weimar cantata for Oculi Sunday 1716, now missing, which was based on the hymn with an instrumental quotation in the opening aria and with the final chorale. In the Leipzig years around 1730, Bach wrote a cantata for Reformation Day using this material. It began with the first verses of Luther's hymn in a simple four-part setting and also included the other verses. Later on, in the 1730s or 1740s, Bach replaced the introductory chorale movement with a chorale setting which was unique, spacious and motet-like in its style; this - uniquely in this respect - incorporated the choral writing in an instrumental canon for oboes and organ continuo. The powerful opening chorus is followed by recitatives and arias which reflect the full breadth of Bach's art of word painting and emotion. One of Bach's most magnificent cantatas, one of the greatest works in the history of music. In addition to the complete performance material the arrangements of movements 1 and 5 (with 3 trumpets, timpani as playing score) by Wilhelm Friedemann Bach are available (Carus 3108089). Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Paul Horn. Hymns by Martin Luther: Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir. German title: Aus tiefer Not. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas. Single Part, Viola. Composed 1724. BWV 38. 2 pages. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.038/13. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3103813). ISBN 9790007042813. Key: E phrygian. Language: German. Text: Luther, Martin. Brass Band - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1175759-130 (Extended Edition). Composed by Stephen Bulla. Concert and Contest Collection Brass Band en Fanfare. Concert Piece. Score Only. Composed 2017. 53 pages. De Haske Publications #DHP 1175759-130. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1175759-130).
Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 2.5 SKU: BT.DHP-1084578-140 Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord. Composed by Traditional. Arranged by Jacob De Haan. Musica Sacra. Sacred. Score Only. Composed 2008. 12 pages. De Haske Publications #DHP 1084578-140. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1084578-140). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. The well-known chorale Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland (Let the Earth Now Praise the Lord) was written by Martin Luther in 1524 and derives from a translation of a hymn from the 4th century before Christ. The melody was composed by Johann Walter, however Johann Sebastian Bach used it as a basis for many cantatas. This arrangement by Jacob de Haan gives your band the chance to perform an attractive version of this beautiful chorale.
$17.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
