Piano SKU: HL.14028008 Composed by Poul Ruders. Music Sales America. Classical. Book [Softcover]. 36 pages. Edition Wilhelm Hansen #WH29703. Published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen (HL.14028008). ISBN 9788759852521. English. The Dante-Sonata was composed in 1970, inspired by two quotations from Dante's La Divina Comedia, Inferno, each in its turn forming the program of the two movements. Movement 1: Wandering through Inferno Dante sees all those who during their life on earth were ill-tempered and discontented, and who are now doomed for all eternity to stand in mud up to their necks, fighting each other, tearing and scratching each other's flesh. Movement 2: Here the doomed wretches recollect life on earth - the blessed sun and the green meadows; but it is too late to repent. Apart from having this connection with La Divina Comedia the title: Dante-Sonata has a dialectical and music-historical reference, a reference to Franz Liszt's Dante Sonata, without quoting from it in any way. An elusive air of the music of bygone days can be percieved in the second movement, which with its many types of graces is reminiscent of a slow movement of a Baroque dance. Dante-Sonata is dedicated to Elisabeth Klein. $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ8189). English-German. Franz Liszt was barely 20 years old when he first read Dante s Divine Comedy, but it left a lasting impression on him throughout his entire life that only a truly impactful creation can have on the human soul. This is what inspired the Dante Sonata which Liszt premiered in Vienna in 1837. Stemming from this, he created a revised version entitled Apres une lecture du Dante, Fantasia quasi Sonata which appeared in 1856 within the second cycle of his Années de pelerinage (Years of Pilgrimage). In the appendix of the present edition, the work s earlier version entitled Paralipomenes a la Divina Commedia, Fantaisie symphonique is also included. It has survived in the handwritingof Liszt s secretary, Gaetanio Belloni, and it contains autograph notes by Liszts. This revised (2016) edition contains not only musical scores of excellent quality, but also a detailed foreword in English and German as well as critical notes in English. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Following the revision of our facsimile of the Piano Sonata in b minor (HN 3227) in 2015, we are now proud to present the corresponding new Henle Urtext edition. With the help of the splendid facsimile reproduction we were able to analyse several passages in the autograph more reliably; in addition the editor Ernst Herttrich not only consulted the first edition but also a copy of a student of Liszts, in which the composer had made entries in his own hand. Clara Schumann reacted with a lack of understanding when Liszt sent the sonata: It is only blind noise not a single healthy thought, everything confused. Today we view this differently. Our new edition of this key piano work is further enhanced by the sophisticated fingerings supplied by the piano titan Marc-Andre Hamelin.

Clarinet and piano SKU: BR.EB-32111 Urtext. Composed by Camillo Schumann. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. The first edition of a forgotten treasure Sonata; Late-romantic. Score. 68 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 32111. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-32111). ISBN 9790004186763. 9 x 12 inches. There are many composers of whom it is said today that they had gone back in time or had composed against contemporary taste. Today, the question arises, though, as to what of value is to be extracted, rediscovered, or re-edited. Camillo Schumann (1872-1946) is one of these nearly forgotten composers. His works are still largely unknown today. Schumann's tonal language combines the Brahmsian sound scape with the grand late romantic Liszt school. His piano pieces range even to sounds reminiscent of Rachmaninoff and are of tremendous power and virtuosity. The pronounced and inventive melody makes the works the testimony of a composer who has not yet come to the fore. His two sonatas for clarinet and piano have hitherto remained completely unknown. This is astonishing, for they are on the level of the sonatas of Johannes Brahms, who probably contributed the most essentially to this genre. Surfacing as a special treasure from the estate of the Saxon musicologist and collector Harald Schurz were the autographs of both clarinet sonatas, now to be published for the first time. Remember falling in love with the expressive qualities of the Brahms sonatas? You can rekindle that feeling with these works by Camillo Schumann. Commentators have compared Schumann's works not only to Brahms, but also to Liszt and Rachmaninoff. Run to your shop and order now.(Gregory Barrett, The Clarinet)

Organ - difficult SKU: HL.49045976 After the Piano Sonata Arranged for Organ. Composed by Franz Liszt. Arranged by Andreas Rothkopf. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Organ Collection. Classical. Softcover. 76 pages. Schott Music #ED22509. Published by Schott Music (HL.49045976). ISBN 9790001163453. UPC: 841886030190. 9x12 inches. The Sonata in B minor undoubtedly is the most important piano composition by Franz Liszt and a pinnacle of piano literature. The creation of the work around 1850 coincides with the period in which Liszt concentrated on the organ and its possibilities of sound and expression as well as on the music by Johann Sebastian Bach. Liszt composed several works for organ himself and arranged both some of his own works and works by other composers for this versatile instrument.
While working on the arrangement, Andreas Rothkopf acted on the maxim to stay close to the original work with its finely nuanced texture and find his own tonal language appropriate for the organ on the basis of Liszt. For a better understanding of the arrangement, the interpreter may want to have a profound knowledge of the original piano text. $33.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

| Violoncello Sonatas Cello, Piano [Score] Breitkopf & Härtel
Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32083 Urtext. Composed by Camillo Schum...(+)
Cello and piano SKU: BR.EB-32083 Urtext. Composed by Camillo Schumann. Edited by Maria Kliegel. Solo instruments; stapled. Edition Breitkopf. With supplementary violoncello part marked by Maria Kliegel Sonata; Late-romantic. Score. 108 pages. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 32083. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-32083). ISBN 9790004186299. 9 x 12 inches. There are many composers about whom it is believed, today, that they composed conservatively, or against the taste of their time. The question is also raised, today, which extract of this large amount of effective and high-quality music, unknown for the most part, should receive our attention; which of it is worth rediscovering or re-editing. Camillo Schumann is one of the most important representatives of these composers, but his works are still largely unknown today. He was born on 10 March 1872 in Konigstein, Saxony. His musical language combines the sound world of Brahms with the grand, late-romantic Liszt School. He wrote piano parts of incredible power and virtuosity, approaching the sounds of Rachmaninoff. His wonderfully individual melodic language makes these works a valuable testimony to a composer who never had his due recognition. The cello sonatas Opp. 59 (EB 32082) and 99 (EB 32083) are the first of three works for this combination. Op. 59 was composed around 1905/06, Op. 99 followed in 1932. Nothing is known so far of the circumstances of the composition of this work, including for whom it was composed. However, it is quite evident that Schumann wrote it, like most of his works, primarily for his own concerts and befriended musicians. The extensive entries in the piano part bear witness to a considerably practical approach. Crossed-out bars, notes added or crossed out in chords as well as a number of revisions of other kinds are more the rule than the exception. The composer's own fingerings written in the piano part also underline this assumption. The present edition contains two solo-parts each. One clean Urtext-part free of any additions from the editor and a second one with bowing marks and fingerings by Maria Kliegel who recorded both sonatas for the first time with the label Naxos. Both sonatas show evident resemblance to the works of this combination by Johannes Brahms and are therefore a must have for ambitious cellists.

Violin, piano SKU: BR.EB-9386 Urtext. Composed by Joachim Raff. Solo instruments. Edition Breitkopf. Sonata; Romantic. Sheet Music. Duration 27'. Breitkopf and Haertel #EB 9386. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.EB-9386). ISBN 9790004188569. 0 x 0 inches. The Violin Sonata No. 1 in E minor, op. 73, a Grand Sonata for Violin and Piano, occupies an important position in Joachim Raff's oeuvre: it reflects numerous artistic, aesthetic, biographical, and reception-historical aspects characteristic of Raff. The work was composed in Weimar in 1854, when Raff was going through a process of artistic self-discovery. He increasingly distanced himself from his mentor Franz Liszt and intensively explored Wagner as well as the ideal of absolute music - this is also reflected in the music of the sonata. While Raff described the first two movements as objectified, he perceived the last two movements as a piece of him, that is, not free of extra-musical influences. The 1st movement, with its expansive main theme, is reminiscent of Mendelssohn; the 2nd movement reveals the refinement of classical-romantic work with musical material. The 3rd movement, with its partly rhythmic, virtuoso accompanying figures and harmonically advanced passages, allows a deeply romantic, almost tormented insight into a soul life a la Sturm und Drang. The partly irascible last movement revisits already familiar themes and thus creates a musical framework. In collaboration with the Joachim-Raff-Archiv Lachen (CH)

Editio Musica Budapest #EMBZ14505. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (BT.EMBZ14505). English-German-Hungarian. Of the early versions of works included in this volume the first versions of the notably popular Consolations cycle and Grand solo de concert (published in 1850) are of particular interest. In the first version of Consolations the third movement was a style hongrois piece whose thematic material was later used by Liszt in his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 1 (published in 1851). The first version of Grand solo de concert shows that the work did not originally include a slow middle section to be recapitulated towards the end as seen in the final version. This is a characteristically Lisztian feature that would reappear a few years later in his Sonata in B minor. A detailed preface inHungarian, English, and German, including new research results, numerous manuscript facsimiles, and critical notes, makes this volume of the New Liszt Edition an important publication of immense scholarly value. Along with the cloth-bound Complete Edition, a paperback version for practical use has also been published. This edition's contents are identical to those of the hardcover edition with the exception that the critical notes are not included.
Of the early versions of works included in Supplementary Volume 10, particular interest is expected in the first versions of the notably popular Consolations cycle and the monumental Grand solo de concert of 1850. In the first version of Consolationsthe third movement was a style hongrois piece whose thematic material Liszt used again later in the first piece of the Hungarian Rhapsodies published in 1851. Ilmari Hannikainen (1892-1955) was the most important Finnish pianist during the first decades of the 1900s. In his lifetime he also was one of the country's most famous composers. Hannikainen studied composition with Erkki Melartin, Franz Schreker and Maximilian Steinberg. His piano techers include Elli Rangman-Bjorlin and Alexander Siloti. Piano Sonata C minor Op. 1 was completed in 1912, and is one of the largest-scale romantic piano compositions in the Finnish piano repertoire. The work is a joyride of flowing national romanticsm filled with youthful energy. Some technical influence from Chopin and Liszt is evident, as is from master Sibelius, the major figure in Finnish music at the time. The Piano Sonata is published now for the first time - and directly as an Urtext edition. Pianist Dmus Risto-Matti Marin and music engraver Jani Kyllonen have studied all surviving manuscript sources, resulting in a worthy edition of this great work for piano. $34.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
