Her tastes were wildly diverse, loving everything from symphonic music to Country/Western, to various styles of folk music, to pop, to marches, but she had a very tender spot for hymns and spirituals.

While it is easy to interpret grief in this music, and its presence is undeniable, it is really intended more as a song of the ultimate triumph of goodness. In her wisdom, she was able to capture deep thoughts within simple phrases, which I have also tried to capture. Her life was one of frequent struggles, yet she was inspiring to many. She emerged from every difficulty, never unscathed, but always victorious, with clear eyes and head held high, until her last battle, which brought about her greatest victory. This sentiment is what I tried to capture. If too slow a tempo is taken, that feeling is lost and a sense of grief takes over. That may be what a conductor wants to convey, but is not what I intended.

This long-lost Fillmore march was written as a bet with fellow composer John Klohr in an attempt to prove that music sold because of its merit rather than because of the composer’s popularity. To camouflage its origins, Fillmore wrote the march under the fictitious name, Gus Beans and called it Mt. Healthy by selecting the title at random from a list of Cincinnati, Ohio suburbs. An exceptional march for mid-level bands, Mt. Healthy is pure Henry Fillmore at his very best.

A very exciting and contemporary work that is descriptive of the tragedy that occurred in Central America in 1541 when a long quiet volcano that had filled with water suddenly erupted, sending mud and water covering the city of Ciudad Vieja killing many and completely wiping out the city. The name of that volcano was Agua, which on that day brought whelm on to everything that its waters touched. This is the second published work by young composer Cory McBride and was written when he was a 16 year old high school student. Bold, unique and distinctive, includes solos for flute, tenor sax, bari sax & horn and it’s an excellent programming choice for any festival or concert performance by better bands.
