Capriccio is a term for a musical work that doesn’t strictly adhere to formal ‘classical’ conventions but rather follows its own ideas. The composer Pascal Proust plays about with the listener’s normal expectations in an amusing way, such as presenting a slow swing groove in the piano that is overlaid with a barcarolle-like theme in in the winds, or the colourful coming-together of straight rock and tango… A varied and effective concert piece for four ambitious musicians!

Simply delightful, this piece features a light swing feel. A crowd-pleaser, there is plenty of opportunity for lush phrasing in this more advanced work.
This music is swinging, with the melody going up and down. The feeling and the sentiment of the piece swing back and forth. To realize this swing, stay precisely in tempo. Staccato markings should not be performed too short. You might even enjoy the lingering sound of the pizzicato. More expression and legato playing are required starting in m. 39. At the very end of the piece the door is shut.
