Playground Games is a collection of etudes for bass trombone portraying these traditional games and reflecting on the childrens' enjoyment. We can picture them jumping, playing Hopscotch, Leapfrog and 'Skipping' (the Double Dutch version of this popular game) and running around in the fast and furious Tag! More peaceful moments are to be found when you sense the concentration during Marbles and Cat's Cradle and an exciting contest is on during Conker Fight.

These entertaining pieces are in many genres and styles, keys and meters. Some etudes are funky and rhythmic, others dance-like with waltzes and a merry gigue. They are appropriate for intermediate to advanced performers.

The etudes evoke feelings for those on the playground today and for others, bringing back happy memories.

It’s Awf’ly Nice Just Walkin’ With You is a beautiful ballad from the trusted pen of Rob Vuono, Jr., showcasing your lead tenor as well as the entire band. The title is a combination of the terms saxophone and collage, which already gives a hint to the essential design of the piece: Several different compositional aspects such as sound layers, melodic sections, aleatoric elements and, last but not least, jazz-like moments are placed in always different relations with each other, collaged as it were. This original composition is a valuable addition to the repertoire for the classical and modern instrumentation of the saxophone quartet.

The harp and the flute are among the oldest instruments in the world. These two instruments have been depicted in paintings and sculptures from as early as the beginnings of the Cycladic civilization (2800-2300 BC) in what is now Turkey and Greece. Mystic Vista is a collection of songs Robert Hutmacher has written over the past eight years for musicals, plays, and recitals, together with five short pieces from the French repertoire. He and Denise LaGiglia have performed together for years, and this recording brings their musicianship to a larger audience. The title, cover photo, and much of the music flows from Bob's life, research, and prayer in his second home-Assisi, Italy. In addition to that unique Umbrian flavor heard in his previous recordings, there are the usual Hutmacher surprises. Mystic Vista conveys a wide variety of holy, emotional, and artistic moments, sure to captivate the listener. Duets, solos, and even improvisations display talent and professionalism, the diversity of style will assure one is connected with the aural beauty of these timeless instruments.

Uuno Klami (1900-1961) was born in Virolahti and studied in Helsinki, Paris and Vienna. While living in the capital city Helsinki, he always spent his summers in the original homestead in Virolahti.
Klami is most known for his colourful orchestral works, but works for piano frame the different times of the composer's life nicely. The piano works are so joyous that transcribing from for organ is firmly based.

Surumarssi (Trauermarsch) Op. 8 was composed when Klami was 16 years old, most likely in memory of his late mother. Pastoral A-flat major was composed in December 1919; I find it contains the feeling of Christmas. Barcarole Op. 5 is a French-influenced work. I often find myself thinking of a boat bobbing on waves, while I play this work.
I believe these organ transcriptions bring many joyful moments in concerts as well as in other congregational use. And not only that: they can be used as pedagogic material as well.
