This well-known reggae song was a great hit for the Jamaican group Bob Marley and The Wailers in the live version of 1975. It was written by Bob Marley himself, but he had it attributed to a man called Vincent Ford, a friend of his - who could keep running his soup kitchen in Trenchtown with the royalties. No Woman, No Cry is still a classic within pop music. This arrangement for a variable four-part line-up was written by Peter Kleine Schaars, who has produced many more successful arrangements of popular hits.

Dit bekende reggaenummer was in de liveversie van 1975 een grote hit voor de Jamaicaanse groep Bob Marley and The Wailers. Het werd door Bob Marley zelf geschreven, maar hij liet het officieel toeschrijven aan ene Vincent Ford, eenvriend van hem - die met de royalty’s zijn gaarkeuken in Trenchtown draaiende kon houden. No Woman, No Cry is nog altijd een klassieker binnen de popmuziek. Il est toujours considéré comme un héros par des millions de fans dans le monde entier, et plus particulièrement en Jama que, son pays natal. Pour ses compatriotes, il est bien plus qu’un héros ou une légende comme en témoignent les funérailles nationales qui lui ont été accordées après son décès. Bob Marley a reçu les honneurs de la nation, et cela juste titre. Il était et restera le « roi du reggae », celui qui a fait découvrir au grand public la musique des Cara bes. En 1975, Bob Marley & theWailers connaissent un immense succès avec la version « live » de la chanson No Woman, No Cry. Si Bob Marley en est le véritable auteur, il la crédita son ami Vincent Ford qui put ainsi continuer de servir la soupe populaire dans les quartiers défavorisés de Trenchtown gr ce aux royalties touchées. Filadelfia is a small town in the province of Vibo Valentia in the southern Italian region of Calabria. In 1783 the town suffered a devastating earthquake. This work depicts the events before and after the disaster, and starts peacefully, with dance-like music sounding in the streets. After this the earthquake destroys everything, causing deep despair. In the end, the town is being rebuilt, which calls for a festive celebration!

Filadelfia is een klein stadje in de provincie Vibo Valentia in de Zuid-Italiaanse regio Calabrië. In 1783 vond hier een verwoestende aardbeving plaats. Dit werk beschrijft de situatie voor en na deze ramp: eerst horen we dansrijke melodieën in de straten, maar daarna vaagt de aardbeving alles weg en klinkt er wanhoop door in de muziek. Uiteindelijk wordt het plaatsje herbouwd en dat is dan weer reden voor feestelijke klanken!

Das Erdbeben zerstört alles und verursacht eine große Verzweiflung. Schließlich wird die Stadt wiederaufgebaut und feiert ein fröhliches Fest!

Cette œuvre met en musique les différences de la ville avant et après le désastre, en commençant par une musique dansante que l’on entendait dans les rues de cet endroit paisible, suivi du tremblement de terre destructif qui entraîne un sentiment de désespoir. Pour finir, la reconstruction de la ville donne une raison pour célébrer !

This unusual concert work, commissioned by the concert band ?Harmonie Concorde? from Sanem in Luxembourg, is built on two basic ideas: the evolution of the economic and social context of this Luxembourg city with its strong mining industry and the European concept, which is clearly present in this very small but prosperous country with its many European institutes. This is musically expressed in a few quotes from the European hymn Ode to Joy, the closing of Beethoven?s Ninth Symphony and from the Te Deum by Charpentier ? widely known as the signature tune for Eurovision broadcasts. A work of true unity.

Aan dit concertwerk - geschreven voor de Harmonie Concorde uit Sanem in Luxemburg - liggen twee basisideeën ten grondslag. Als eerste de sociaal-economische context van het stadje: de mijnbouw heeft decennialang mensen uit diverselanden aangetrokken, met name Portugal. Dit wordt ge llustreerd door de verwerking van een authentiek arbeidslied uit dat land. De tweede pijler is de Europese gedachte die in Luxemburg duidelijk aanwezig is. Dit komt muzikaal totuiting in een dynamische thematiek en citaatjes uit Ode an die Freude van Beethoven en het Te Deum van Charpentier - de herkenningstune voor Eurovisie-uitzendingen. Concordia, een werk dat verschillende elementenin zich verenigt, staat symbool voor eenheid.

Zwei Bilder des Landes Luxemburg bilden die Grundlage dieses ungewöhnlichen Werkes: Zunächst beschreiben schöne, teilweise düstere Klänge die Bergbauregion Luxemburg und ihre vielen Gastarbeiter.Mit Zitaten aus Beethovens Ode an die Freude und Charpentiers Te Deum wird Luxemburg als Sitz einiger wichtiger europäischer Institutionen vorgestellt. (De)composition explores the myriad of sounds possible on a string instrument. These sounds are regularly used in movie music to highlight the storyline, feeling, or character. Musicians use the wood part of the bow, slide their fingers on the fingerboard, play with their bow on the wrong side of the bridge, and many other techniques to create this creepy and mysterious (de)composition.Performance SuggestionsStudents hear extended techniques in movies, TV shows, and even commercials. These sounds are expressive and contextually meaningful but are rarely used in student-level orchestra music. In (De)composition, the extended techniques are essential to the overall sound and structure. Glissandi help students move their hands out of first position but allow the freedom of playing random notes. In addition, students will use their bows in new ways, such as chop, behind the bridge, tremolo, sul ponticello, and col legno.

Michael Haydn composed three of his masses in honor of the holy archangels - St Michael, St Gabriel, and the Raphaelismesse in honor of St Raphael now published. By avoiding the use of vocal soloists, it is one of the genre of Missa in pieno. Four trumpets and two ad lib oboe parts added later by the composer give the work a festive sound in the baroque tradition. At the same time, elements of the 'sensitive style' feature too. The Gloria and Credo exist in two settings, a short version with polytextual passages and a longer version arranged by Haydn himself. The Carus edition, based on authentic performance material in St. Peter's Monastery in Salzburg, contains both versions, with the longer version published here for the first time.
