This artfully-crafted piece speaks as a universal reminder that through His advent here, Jesus is the light of our lives. Because of the birth of our King and Savior, we no longer need to walk in darkness. Instead, Jesus lights our path and blesses us through His redeeming grace and steadfast love. With this knowledge, we are granted peace... all is calm, all is bright.

In the Philippines this may be the most popular love song in the country. George Hernandez has a string of excellent folk songs from the Philippines and with this choral we launch the George G. Hernandez Philippine Folk Song Choral Series. This arrangement has all the tenderness and lushness necessary to make the audience swoon. Silent Midwinter’s Noel is a fantasia on three traditional Christmas tunes. The introduction of the piece, an Adagietto, alternates between melodic statements of In The Bleak Midwinter and Silent Night. The second main section of the piece, an Allegro, primarily juxtaposes The First Noel and Silent Night. The tempo markings throughout the score are mostly suggestions. The conductor may choose to deviate within five to ten clicks in either direction on their metronome. During the Adagietto, the conductor may also choose to draw out harmonic cadences for increased tension and resolution. The piece is scored in Eb and F major to allow younger performers to achieve excellent intonation. Performers should strive to produce characteristic sounds, especially when playing melodic statements. The tunes within this piece are all carols, and should be played as such. The conductor may choose to teach the performers how to sing the carols for added educational value. Lyrics for the carols are included below:Silent NightSilent night! Holy night! All is calm, all is brightRound yon virgin mother and child!Holy infant, so tender and mild,Sleep in heavenly peace!Sleep in heavenly peace! In the Bleak MidwinterIn the bleak midwinterfrosty wind made moan, earth stood hard as iron, water like a stone:snow had fallen, snow on snow, snow on snow,in the bleak midwinter, long ago.The First NoelThe First Noel the angel did sayWas to certain poor shepherdsin fields as they lay;In fields as they lay, keeping their sheep,On a cold winter's night that was so deep.Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,Born is the King of Israel.

Fragile and precious, this sacred tone poem is a prayer for peace and a plea for healing of the heart. The soundscape of the anthem rises from a single tone, opening to reveal glimmering splashes of choral color. As the words become more impassioned, the octavo surrenders to a flowing piano episode that matches its intensity. This petition for calm begins to quiet as the anthem winds down, allowing the prayer to end in hushed chords of assurance. Score and Parts (vn, vc) available as a digital download.

Sea Squall is about the journey of a ship traveling across turbulent seas. It starts with the primary melody that comes back frequently, with every section having a turn playing it. The context of this theme changes as the piece progresses. Sometimes it is calm and safe, and sometimes more powerful, like a storm with that lingering feeling of unpredictability. The bowings and dynamics, as well as what each section is playing, changes the mood and feeling of the music, from calm, to animated, even heroic in the louder areas. There is a new theme introduced later in the cellos with the upper parts following soon after. The focus of the player should be to bring out these contrasts in the parts, by observing the dynamics and articulations.Sea Squall is about the journey of a ship traveling across turbulent seas.
