En 2006, Hayato Hirose compose Tower of Babel (La Tour de Babel), une œuvre dédiée son professeur et maître, le compositeur belge Jan Van der Roost. L’œuvre a été donnée en création mondiale, le 20 septembre 2006 Louvain en Belgique, par l’Orchestre d’Harmonie de l’Institut Lemmens placé sous la direction du compositeur.Après le Déluge, les rescapés de l’Arche de Noé eurent une descendance nombreuse. Partis de l’orient, ils trouvèrent une vallée au pays de Shinéar et ils s'y établirent. Afin de ne pas être dispersés sur toute la surface de la terre, ils décidèrent de b tir une ville et une tour - la Tour de Babel - dont le sommet toucherait le ciel.Inquiet du dessein des fils des hommes, l’Éternel descendit pour voir la ville et la tour qu’ils b tissaient. Il confondit leur langage afin qu'ils ne se comprennent plus les uns les autres. Ainsi, ils cessèrent de b tir la ville, et de l L’Éternel les dispersa sur toute la surface de la terre. Kurt Thomas's setting of Psalm 137 ,,An den Wassern zu Babel (,,By the waters of Babylon) is one of his earlier compositions and the second that he published at Breitkopf & Hartel in 1928, after the Mass in A op. 1. The motet for double choir with a performing time of about six minutes portrays the psalm text vividly. Long flowing lines in the beginning point to the rivers of Babylon, leading on to the lament of the Israelites and finally to a fantasy of revenge before coming back to the flowing lines in the end. Although the motet includes many of the features of his later choral works, it is among the more easily accessible works of Kurt Thomas and can therefore also be performed by good amateur choirs.

When the people of Babel built the tower, they were led by the human spirit and ended up in confusion, scattered over the earth, speaking different languages. At Pentecost, people from many nations, speaking different languages, were led by the Holy Spirit; and even in their diversity, they were united. This 35-minute musical for young voices (Unison w/opt. Two-Part) links together these Old Testament and New Testament stories with songs, humor and heart. The message is, if we follow the Great Commandments - ?loving God and loving our neighbors, no matter how different from us they are or what language they speak - we will surely be filled with the Holy Spirit. A score with piano accompaniment and a singers edition without the piano part are both included for the one price. You may make as many copies as you require for use by your choir. Separate audio MP3s and instrumental parts are available, and there is a video of the debut performance on the Hope YouTube channel.
