Fort Fincastle was built in the Bahamas in 1793, constructed in the form of a ship’s bow so as to fool passing ships. The opening bars of Fincastle Overture reflect the form of the magnificent stronghold, before a heroic theme is heard in which the fort comes under repeated attack, and just about survives!

Fort Fincastle werd in 1793 in Nassau gebouwd, de hoofdstad van de Bahamas. De oprichter ervan, Lord Dunmore, gaf het fort een bijzonder vorm: een cirkelvormig gebouw met een puntige uitbouw, in de vorm van een boeg of voorstevenvan schip.
