In one of the dedicatory poems to his verse play The Shadowy Waters (1906), William Butler Yeats asks: Is Eden far away...? Do our woods and winds and verponds cover more quiet woods, More shining winds, more star-glimmering ponds? Is Eden out of time and out of space? How do you answer such questions? We have only the vague elusive promptings of our own mysterious, troubled hearts to tell us that the Eden we long for is there, somewhere beyond the physical world which frames our existence, in another realm of different dimensions. And - what is most painful to admit - that it is closed to us in the form in which we live and breathe, even if at times we do have intimations..., Yeats is telling us that this paradise, this Eden we yearn for is here - present even if invisible, palpable even if intangible. In his Second Symphony, Mahler meets an angel who tells him he can't get into heaven, he's locked out. The news is shattering. What follows is an inconsolable sorrowing, the same sorrowing that comes when we wake to the realization that we too are locked out of Eden. Eden is the heaven of our longing and desire for release from pain and suffering. Eden is the image in our restive minds that reflects the reconciled, resolved, quiescent state of soul we hunger for. But Eden eludes -because it is not a place. It is a state of soul which answers none of the illusory, hampering conditions that shape and bind us to the real world of our bodies, our appetites, our passions, and our beliefs. I have turned Yeats' question Is Eden out of time and out of space? into its own answering. However near we may sense its presence at times, Eden remains unreachable, ungraspable, unknowable, unthinkable. It forever eludes us. I wrote this music the way I did to shut out -with quietness and otherworldliness - the clamor and clang of the raucous Garish Day, to turn away its tumult and noise, to negate its stridency and chaos. Perhaps in the cleansing stillness and blessing of this emptied-out state of soul, Eden, through still hidden, may not be so far way; though still unreachable, may be close enough almost to touch. Full Score SKU: HL.50602314 For Voice, Flute, Percussion, Viola, and Guitar Full Score. Composed by Poul Rovsing Olsen. Score. Classical. Softcover. 48 pages. Edition Wilhelm Hansen #WH31915. Published by Edition Wilhelm Hansen (HL.50602314). UPC: 840126906585. The Planets, op. 80 for mezzo-soprano, flute, viola and guitar, was composed in spring 1978 and given its first performance on 30 July the same year at the Lerchenborg Music Days. The occasion which led to the composition of the work was the 50th anniversary of the finding of a block book from the second half of the 15th century with texts on the planets. The inspiration came from Louise Lerche-Lerchenborg, who organised the Lerchenborg Music Days, and the work is dedicated to her. In connection with the concert at Lerchenborg, Poul Rovsing Olsen wrote the following about his opus: The Planets derives from the block book found in Lerchenborg's library in 1928. Seven fine, coloured drawings tell of the seven celestial bodies which in many European languages have given the weekdays their names. Each drawing is accompanied by a Latin text, under which there is a two-line dictum that briefly - though very concisely - gives an account of the characteristics of the children who belong to that particular celestial body. And these concentrated portrayals form the basis for the music. In the music I have attempted to give indications of my own experience of the particular power and nature characterizing each one of the heavenly bodies, just as I have allowed this cycle of planet songs to pass like a journey through the ethereal realms with motifs that appear, are repeated, are varied and disappear (but only so as to be replaced by new ones), until we finally return to the point of departure. The introduction - Aether - is purely instrumental. Two of the planets - Venus and Luna - are female; in the music written for them small (Indian) cymbals are used that are also present in Aether.. $46.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Full score. 8 pages. Carl Fischer Music #BAS84F. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.BAS84F). ISBN 9781491159309. UPC: 680160917884. Lauren Bernofsky wants young string players to love playing music, from the very beginning of their studies. Therefore, she likes writing early-level pieces that are fun, yet pedagogically helpful. On a Swing is played on only open strings, so students can focus on their bow holds and bowing without having to think about left-hand fingers. The piece gets its harmonic and rhythmic interest from the piano part. This work is dedicated to Sandy Mutchler, who fondly remembers her dear friend, the strings pedagogue Linda Luebke. The title and feel of the piece reflect the times they spent together on a porch swing. The back-and-forth motion of the swing is imitated in the up-and-down bows. Students should think of a relaxed, swinging motion with their bodies as they play this piece. Stars was born out of a life-long fascination with the night sky, and the text is a meditation on the interconnectedness of creation. The light from distant stars takes eons to reach our eyes, connecting us with an ancient past. Many elements that comprise our bodies were cast out of stars million years ago. Since we are the stuff of stars, where will we cast our own light? Whose world will we impact? Harmonically, the piece seeks to evoke the vastness and mystery of space, simultaneously capturing the intimacy of connection. Stars Legacies of light Ages ago, you spun light into the bleak Ancient light falls on my eye And I? A star sacred stellar dust casting light out through time In whose sky will my light fall?  . Carl Fischer Music #BPS117. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.BPS117). ISBN 9781491152034. UPC: 680160909537. Aurora Eclipsed was inspired by the solar eclipse of 2017.  During a solar eclipse, a beautiful and fascinating aurora sometimes forms around the moon creating an eerie outline. This “ring of fire†is actually the sun’s outer edges being revealed for the human eye. An aggressive composition younger students will enjoy playing over and over again. I wrote Aurora Eclipsed while looking outside at 2017’s solar eclipse. I find space and celestial bodies so fascinating. To think of how small we are compared to the scale of even just the moon is impressive.During a solar eclipse, a beautiful and fascinating aurora sometimes forms around the moon creating an eerie outline. This “ring of fire†is actually the sun’s outer edges being revealed for the human eye. About the work:Unlike most of my young-band pieces, Aurora Eclipsed begins at its peak tempo. The rhythmic pattern in m. 2 is repeated throughout the piece and is used in the melody in order to help facilitate the teaching of eighth-note patterns. The melodic pattern changes slightly at m. 25, while remaining just as repetitious as the previous pattern, giving everyone ample opportunity for exposure. At m. 25 the directions call for euphonium and bassoon only. This is merely a color choice and can easily be used with trombones to fill the need or to help strengthen your students' playing. The use of sfz is not used very much in this level of music, but I thought with the addition of the accents that it would be a great opportunity to teach this colorful effect. $55.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

SKU: GI.G-9816 Prayer in Time of Infertility, Miscarriage, and Stillbirth. Edited by Kate Williams. Sacred. 214 pages. GIA Publications #9816. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-9816). ISBN 9781622773633. English. For those who trust in God, in the pain of sorrow there is consolation, in the face of despair there is hope, in the midst of death there is life. —Order of Christian Funerals Those who struggle with the inability to conceive, those who know the pain of losing a child before birth, and those who have faced their infant's death at the time of birth know that this season of mourning is often held inside, hidden and unseen. But God does not abandon us. Somehow, on the other side of loss an incredible story of resilience emerges. Bodies, though they are never the same again, heal. Couples try again, adopt, or reimagine. Those who mourn in isolation find not one, not two, but a community of others with whom they can identify. God's silence is not absence, it is the patient listening of a God who knows our grief first-hand, who weeps with us, who holds us as a mother holds her child. Death is never the whole story. The hope of new life surprises, confounds, persists. Of Womb and Tomb: Prayer in Time of Infertility, Miscarriage, and Stillbirth is a resource for individuals, couples, and parish communities who wish to accompany those on their grief journey. Filled with stories, prayers, Scripture, poems, and rituals this book may serve as a guide in creating prayer opportunities in a variety of settings. Together, let us bear witness to the Christian mystery—that new life is born of the womb and of the tomb. Once in a great while we encounter a resource that fundamentally changes the way we do ministry. We are so moved and formed and challenged that it is difficult, perhaps even impossible, to forget the sacred treasures contained within. GIA’s Of Womb and Tomb is exactly that resource. —John Kyler. $18.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Bass Drum, Chimes, Glockenspiel, Percussion, Percussion 1, Percussion 2, Percussion 3, Percussion 4, Spring Coil, Tam-tam, Vibraphone, Wind Chimes SKU: PR.11440986S Composed by William Kraft. Full score. With Standard notation. 27 pages. Duration 10 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-40986S. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.11440986S). UPC: 680160014651. Here I have adapted a standard musical form to a contemporary medium. The concertino is a small concerto: a one-movement work that draws upon the basic principles of the concerto form - two bodies of sound which at times compete, contrast, or act together. The piece explores the musical possibilities of Roto-toms. The sound of these drums is a cross between a tom-tom and a timpani, and their pitch is changed by rotating the drum. During the course of the work, the various effects used include pitch and fingernail glissandi; playing on the rims; and playing on the heads with fingers, brushes, timpani sticks, wood mallets or rattan. Harmonics on the octave and the fourth above the fundamental pitch are produced by the drums when weights (in this case, small pitched cymbales called crotales) are placed in the center of the drum heads. In return the drum itself acts a resonator for the crotales, which also have a fundamental pitch when played on the face and a partial a fifth above when played on the center dome. The opening section of the concertino introduces a motive, played by the soloist, while the ensemble sustains a bowed chord on the vibraphone. Following this cadenza-like introduction, the piece gradually moves into a bright 6/8 tempo that is characterized by constant sixteenth notes in all parts. After a brief period of interaction, the ensemble continues its sixteenth notes patterns and the soloist plays and improvised solo. Next, an interlude is presented by the ensemble which leads to a dramatic recapitulation by the soloist of the motivic material. A thematically-derived coda concludes the work. Encounters VI, commissioned by Remo Belli, is dedicated to Jennifer Kraft, the composer's daughter. The premiere performance took place in 1976 at the MENC National Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was performed by the Temple University Percussion Ensemble conducted by Glenn Steele. --William Kraft. $12.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Published by Schott Music (HL.49046001). 0.262 inches. Orquoy is inspired by the music of ancient Andean civilisations. The work evokes the atmosphere of fiestas and collective rites: bright colours, the movements of bodies, the ritual consumption of alcohol, a sense of vertigo, the shrill flutes and the power of percussion instruments - this all contributes to a permanent saturation of the senses. For the Quechuas, whose music is characterised by pre-Hispanic elements, the composer is a shaman, wandering between the sphere of the supernatural and the human world. He coaxes melodies out of the Gods - this is the meaning of the word 'orquoy'. Thierry Pecou. $38.00 - See more - Buy online

SKU: M7.MH-15012-15 Composed by Evemarie Mueller and Lorna Lutz Heyge. This edition: Saddle-wire stitching. Sheet music with CD. Songbook, for parents. 48 pages. Matthias Hohner #MH 15012-15. Published by Matthias Hohner (M7.MH-15012-15). German. This 'Musical Garden for Babies' extends an invitation to babies of up to 18 months and their parents to join in a musical game. Making music together at this early stage provides the child with nourishment in three respects: for body, soul and brain. Through songs, rhymes and movement games children and those closest to them can enjoy discovering their own voices and bodies. Simple instruments such as wood blocks, rattles and drums lead the child into the world of sounds. Research has confirmed the positive influence of musical activity on the overall development of the child - in its musical ability, its social relationships and its intelligence. A lesson in the 'Musical Garden for Babies' is structured around the following activities: greeting and farewell songs - rhymes and games for bouncing baby on your knee - finger games and songs to develop awareness of the body - rocking songs and lullabies - songs for dancing and moving about to - echo games - introducing simple instruments - playing with pieces of cloth - listening to music. The teacher's book contains information on infant development, explanations of the principles behind teaching and plenty of ideas for lessons. The song books with CD make it possible to take the 'sound environment' of the music lesson home with you and to keep singing and enjoying the songs with the family. $26.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Harry Partch (1901-1974), one of the greatest and most individualistic composers of all time, who created dozens of incredible instruments for the performance of his music, created one of the most amazing bodies of sensually alluring and emotionally powerful music of the 20th century. Closely connected with his name is NEWBAND, an ensemble founded by Dean Drummond, which received custodianship of the original Harry Partch Instrument Collection in 1990 and has since been involved with resurrecting Partch's great works.
