| Tarantella Carl Fischer
Choral Double bass voice, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, SATB chorus SKU: ...(+)
Choral Double bass voice, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, SATB chorus SKU: CF.CM9735 Jubilate Agno. Composed by Z. Randall Stroope. 16 pages. Duration 0:03:05. Carl Fischer Music #CM9735. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9735). ISBN 9781491161159. UPC: 680160919741. Key: A minor. Latin, English. Christopher Smart and ZRS. Origins of the Tarantella The tarantella is a popular southern Italian dance with origins in the 11th century. (There is even some mention of the tarantella in ancient Greek mythology.) Of the possible sources of the dance, the most popular comes from the villages of Tanto and Tarentum (little spider), Italy. During harvest, workers in the field were sometimes bitten by the tarantula spider. To combat the poison, the afflicted workers went into a frenetic, almost musical exorcism to sweat the venom out of their pores. In the millennium since, the very energetic nature of the dance has remained, although the curative focus of the dance has given way to more enjoyable endeavors, even stately courtship. Origins of the Text Christopher Smart (1722-1771), also known as Kit Smart or Jack Smart, was born in Kent, England and suffered from what is now believed to be acute asthma and other health issues as a child. As such, he did not work in the fields, but spent much time reading and writing, a passion that he nurtured for a lifetime. Well known in London literary circles, his career as a writer floundered due to mounting debts and his falling out of favor with the literary establishment: Sadly, he was forced to confinement at St. Luke's Hospital for Lunatics, though this was based on his mounting debt, and not on insanity. (Confinement, or debtor's prison, was common during this period if one's debts could not be paid.) During his confinement, he worked on two of his most famous works, Jubilate Agno and A Song of David. (Part of Jubilate Agno [Rejoice in the Lamb] was set to music by English composer, Benjamin Britten.) Smart's writing style (which, at times, bordered on the absurd), along with his many obsessions, lead to frequent misperceptions of his work and his lucidity. In this present work, portions of Smart's Jubilate Agno were used in mm. 24-31, 103-110 and 149-156. The remaining text was gathered by the composer, including the rapid, almost patter-like, delivery of words from A-Z in the alphabet. (Christopher Smart had a preoccupation with the alphabet.) These words both rhyme and accentuate the frenetic nature of the spider dance: theraphosa [teh-rah-fo-sa] a genus of tarantula spiders bellicose [beh-lee-ko-sah] hostile; aggressive odiosa [o-dee-o-sa] hateful; vexation tenebrosa [teh-neh-bro-sa] creeping; dark nemorosa [neh-mo-ro-sa] wooded; shady lapidosa [lah-pee-do-sa] stony area; gritty The convergence, then, of the medieval tarantella (spider dance), the writings of a brilliant poet who bordered on the absurd, and the infusion of strong, descriptive and otherwise random, rhyming words, synthesizes to make dramatic lyrics for this work. About the Composer Z. Randall Stroope is an American composer and conductor. He has served as Professor of Music at three universities (an Endowed Professor at two), conducted 47 all-state choirs, and directed over 40 times at Carnegie Hall, among other American venues. Randall guest conducts full-time, and composes from his home studios on Merritt Island, Florida and in Sandia Park, New Mexico. Performance Notes Text: In Latin, the r is flipped; use s instead of z on endings such as phosa, cosa, and so on; the Latin o is a cross between oh and aw; in the transliteration above, I chose to simply use an o for consistency. The director will blend the oh and aw in the rehearsals to his/her own preference. Lastly, tarantula is pronounced tah-rah-n-too-lah (avoid teh-ran-choo-luh) within the confines of this text. Stomp: This can be done by the entire chorus, or just the first row. It is as much visual as it is auditory. The string quartet is preferred over piano when that option affords itself. I created a piano score that is a viable option and included it in the piano/vocal score if a performance uses chorus/piano. Orchestra (3(picc)2.2.2 - 4.2.3.1 - timp.(cym ad lib.) - str) SKU: BR.PB-5559-07 Urtext. Composed by Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky. Edited by Christoph Flamm. Orchestra; Softbound. Partitur-Bibliothek (Score Library). Tchaikovsky's Hamburg Symphony in the Urtext Symphony; Romantic. Study Score. 208 pages. Duration 44'. Breitkopf and Haertel #PB 5559-07. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.PB-5559-07). ISBN 9790004213698. 6.5 x 9 inches. Like Hamlet Overture, originating at about the same time, Tchaikovsky's 5th symphony, composed in 1888, focuses on the human existential question: To be or not to be - triumph over fate or triumph of fate? The per aspera ad astra dramaturgy underlying the symphony culminates in triumphant certainty. If Tchaikovsky was initially euphoric, then severe self-doubts befell him after he conducted the premiere in St. Petersburg. These doubts demonstrably led him to make interpretative changes for the Hamburg performance in 1889, including a cut in the finale. Only with the extremely positive response to this performance did his doubts dispel. Nevertheless, Tchaikovsky himself never again conducted the 5th symphony. It was only posthumously established in the repertoire through Arthur Nikisch's commitment. The new edition's textual criticism takes into account besides the autograph and first edition also the first edition's orchestral parts, together with the piano arrangement produced from the autograph by Sergei Taneyev. In addition to thoroughly clarifying dynamics and articulation, the source comparison also corrected many errors and solved problematical passages, such as, for instance, the trombone entry in m. 372 of the finale. Considered, moreover, for the first time has been the composer's doubts about his work and its ambiguities, frequently successfully suppressed in the history of its performance and reception. Tchaikovsky's conductor's copy is unfortunately lost, hence his alterations made for the Hamburg performance are not precisely known. They have survived only indirectly through remarks that Willem Mengelberg left to posterity, for which he could draw on Tchaikovsky's conductor's score and oral references by the composer's brother Modest. So, anyone wishing to deal seriously with the work's certainties will not be able to do so in the future without having also to deal with its uncertainties.

Violin 2 (3(picc)2.2.2 - 4.2.3.1 - timp.(cym ad lib.) - str) SKU: BR.OB-5558-16 Urtext. Composed by Pjotr Iljitsch Tschaikowsky. Edited by Christoph Flamm. Orchestra; stapled. Orchester-Bibliothek (Orchestral Library). Tchaikovsky's Hamburg Symphony in the Urtext Symphony; Romantic. Part. 24 pages. Duration 44'. Breitkopf and Haertel #OB 5558-16. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.OB-5558-16). ISBN 9790004344668. 10 x 12.5 inches. Violin SKU: HL.50603952 MS83. Composed by Nicolo Paganini. String Solo. Classical, Virtuoso. Softcover. 48 pages. Ricordi #NR142388. Published by Ricordi (HL.50603952). ISBN 9781705162583. UPC: 196288062684. 9.0x12.0x0.161 inches. The Sonata à violin solo (M.S. 83) is an early work by Paganini that can be ascribed to the years 1796-1800, a period which includes works such as the posthumous Grande concerto (M.S. 75), the Inno patriottico con variazioni (M.S. 81) and the Tema variato (M.S. 82)for violin. There are no doubts as to the authenticity of the work: the highly virtuosic experimental writing, the indications “Organetto†and “Flagioletto†and the use of the fourth string are all distinctive traits found in Paganini's writing from this period which link the Sonata to the Inno patriottico con variazioni and the Tema variato. The most significant characteristics of this composition are its length and the three-movement structure that connect it to the Classical style, at least far as the first movement is concerned: it is written in sonata form, something rarely seen in Paganini's solo violin works. $20.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock | | |

SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboe d'amore, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo (+)
SATB vocal soli, SATB choir, 2 oboe d'amore, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo SKU: CA.3113819 Cantata for the 15th Sunday after Trinity. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Uwe Wolf. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Separate instruments. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Trinity. Set of Orchestra Parts. Composed 1723. BWV 138. Duration 20 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.138/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3113819). ISBN 9790007208219. Language: German/English. Although Warum betrubst du dich, mein Herz (What is it troubles thee, my heart) BWV 138 is based on the chorale of the same name, it is nevertheless not regarded as one of Bach's chorale cantatas. In this unusual composition from Bach's first cycle of cantatas, further chorale verses were not paraphrased in the freely-composed sections (as in the chorale cantatas). Instead the chorale occurs in dialog with the recitatives. It assumes the role of the comforter, whilst doubts are expressed through the recitatives. This leads to recitative and chorale being merged into larger movements. In the only aria in the cantata, trust in God finally prevails. The cantata ends with a final chorale verse; in the interludes between the lines, Bach ignites a roaring virtuoso firework display.
