Finished in 1948, the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was composed by the French composer, conductor and the 1927 winner of the Grand Prix de Rome, Henri Tomasi (1901-1971), and lasts approximately 14 minutes. Dedicated to the trumpeter Ludovic Vaillant, soloist at the National Orchestra, the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra was premiered in Paris in 1949. | Concerto no. 2 for violoncello and orchestra - Solo part & piano reduction Fennica Gehrman
Violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-742-6 Composed by Kalevi Aho. Contempora...(+)
Violoncello, piano SKU: FG.55011-742-6 Composed by Kalevi Aho. Contemporary. Book. Fennica Gehrman #55011-742-6. Published by Fennica Gehrman (FG.55011-742-6). ISBN 9790550117426. Kalevi Aho's (b. 1949) concerto no. 2 for cello and orchestra (2013) is in five movements performed without a break. It begins with a swinging Berceuse, followed by a very quick, virtuosic Presto in 5/8 time. The heart of the concerto is the cadenza-like third movement, Adagio, dominated throughout by the soloist. A fairly short Allegretto is followed by the closing Epilogue. This has flashbacks to the opening movement, and they lead to a cadenza in which the soloist plays only flageolet notes and pizzicatos. The concerto ends with a virtuosic coda in 5/8 time evocative of the second movement.
Arto Noras gave the concerto its first performance with the Lahti Symphony Orchestra conducted by Osmo Vänskä in Naantali on June 5, 2014. It was a joint commission from the Naantali Music Festival and the Lahti Symphony Orchestra.
This product consists of the solo part (18 pages) and piano reduction by Kari Vehmanen (62 pages) - have a look inside by clicking “sample. The concerto is scored for a fairly small orchestra. The instrumentation is 2(II=afl)2(II=ca)2(II=bcl)2-2200-bar-02-str and the orchestral material is available for hire from the publisher. $55.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

The melancholic tone of the Ney (the Persian bamboo flute) is known for its alluring sound, emulating the human voice. In Persian literature, the Ney is considered a mystic instrument capable of expressing deep human emotions. In writing my flute concerto, I aimed not only to highlight the modern flautist's ability to play agile and brilliant passages but also to emulate the delicate sound of the Ney, particularly in extended solo flute passages. Two prominent characters permeate the first movement of my concerto. They are marked in the score as lamentoso, and con spirito, expressing grief and loss, and joy of living respectively. The lament is mostly expressed in several extended cadenzas for solo flute while the con spirito consists of robust and energetic fast sections played by all forces of the orchestra. Apart from these two characters there are moments of mystery, comedy and the grotesque, among others. In the second movement, the lyrical and poetic character of the flute is prominently presented in dream-like passages surrounded by shimmering and tender orchestral colors. The solo flute is left out in an agitated middle section that references the first movement. In the third section of the movement the solo flute returns in meditative fashion culminating in a duet with the harp. The third movement is written as one continuous quasi scherzo, challenging the limits of agility and brilliance of the flute. Some of the materials from the earlier movements are presented again with joyous character. The coda elevates the concerto into its brightest and most festive character, driving to the end with relentless energy. Chamber Music Percussion, Percussion 1, Percussion 2, Percussion 3, Percussion 4 SKU: PR.114409860 Concertino for Roto Toms and Percussion Quartet. Composed by William Kraft. Encounters. Contemporary. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. Composed 1976. 27+12+10+10+10+10 pages. Duration 10 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-40986. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114409860). UPC: 680160014644. Here I have adapted a standard musical form to a contemporary medium. The concertino is a small concerto: a one-movement work that draws upon the basic principles of the concerto form - two bodies of sound which at times compete, contrast, or act together. The piece explores the musical possibilities of Roto-toms. The sound of these drums is a cross between a tom-tom and a timpani, and their pitch is changed by rotating the drum. During the course of the work, the various effects used include pitch and fingernail glissandi; playing on the rims; and playing on the heads with fingers, brushes, timpani sticks, wood mallets or rattan. Harmonics on the octave and the fourth above the fundamental pitch are produced by the drums when weights (in this case, small pitched cymbales called crotales) are placed in the center of the drum heads. In return the drum itself acts a resonator for the crotales, which also have a fundamental pitch when played on the face and a partial a fifth above when played on the center dome. The opening section of the concertino introduces a motive, played by the soloist, while the ensemble sustains a bowed chord on the vibraphone. Following this cadenza-like introduction, the piece gradually moves into a bright 6/8 tempo that is characterized by constant sixteenth notes in all parts. After a brief period of interaction, the ensemble continues its sixteenth notes patterns and the soloist plays and improvised solo. Next, an interlude is presented by the ensemble which leads to a dramatic recapitulation by the soloist of the motivic material. A thematically-derived coda concludes the work. Encounters VI, commissioned by Remo Belli, is dedicated to Jennifer Kraft, the composer's daughter. The premiere performance took place in 1976 at the MENC National Convention in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and was performed by the Temple University Percussion Ensemble conducted by Glenn Steele. --William Kraft. $46.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Full score for Bent Sorensen's Birds And Bells, a Concerto for Trombone and Orchestra. Birds and Bells was composed in 1995 for the Swedish trombonist Christian Lindberg. As the title suggests it is not a 'roaring' trombone concerto but rather a 'pianissimo concerto' filled with the contents of the title. It must be emphasized that 'bells' here has nothing to do with death or destruction which connoisseurs of my music might be tempted to think. The work is in three movements which are played without a break. The second movement ends with a kind of 'pseudo-nightingale cadenza', and I feel the third to be a slow lullaby. oBirds and Bellso was premiered on 30 April 1996, with Christian Lindberg and the Aarhus Sinfonietta conducted by Soren K. Hansen. Bent Sorensen. Solo Trombone part also available: 14042072. $80.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| New Perspectives on the Keyboard Sonatas of Muzio Clementi Ut Orpheus
Books and Journals SKU: UT.QC-2 Composed by Rohan H. Stewart-MacDonald. H...(+)
Books and Journals SKU: UT.QC-2 Composed by Rohan H. Stewart-MacDonald. Hardback (Cloth Hard Cover with Jacket). Quaderni Clementiani. Classical. Books and Journals. Ut Orpheus #QC 2. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.QC-2). ISBN 9788881094585. 6.5 x 9.5 inches. The career of Muzio Clementi (1752-1832) spanned the lives of both Mozart and Beethoven and was exceptionally diverse. It encompassed performing on the keyboard, conducting, teaching, business activities and composition in the realms of keyboard, chamber and orchestral music. This book focuses on Clementi’s keyboard sonatas and aims to shed new light on their relationship with the complex cross-currents of late eighteenth-century musical style, both in England, where Clementi was active for much of his career, and the continent, which he visited periodically. The first chapter summarises Clementi’s historical reputation as it developed in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, and evaluates the impact on it of the significant developments in Clementi scholarship since 2000. The aim is to stress the deficiencies of the established view of Clementi as a keyboard pedagogue and to stress the importance of liberating him as much as possible from this ingrained perception. This is attempted, in the remaining chapters, through close, analytical readings of a variety of keyboard sonatas from all stages of his career, comparing them with a range of works by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and other contemporaries such as Jan Ladislav Dussek (1760-1812). The comparisons are made from the perspectives of distinguishing features of Clementi’s style such as his unusually intense deployment of strict counterpoint in the later keyboard sonatas; his cultivation of irregularity in recapitulations; his use of the ‘three-key’ exposition in the middle-to-later stages of his career that seems to anticipate nineteenth-century developments, and also his assimilation of heightened virtuosity into the earlier sonatas, often in the form of cadenzas more suggestive of the keyboard concerto a genre Clementi seems, rather strangely, to have neglected. The book has been envisaged as a direct response, not only to the most recent scholarship on Clementi, but also to current approaches to eighteenth-century music in general, including the interdisciplinary work of Annette Richards. $106.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
