With Standard notation. 16+10+16+4+10+3+5+12 pages. Duration 3 minutes, 2 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #YAS153. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.YAS153). ISBN 9781491143629. UPC: 680160901128. Key: D major. Black Mast conjures images of a dramatic life on the high seas of a pirate captain and crew. The music is in minor with angular melodies and contrast created through changes in tempo. A maestoso presentation of the theme leads to a dramatic conclusion. Black Mast conjures images of a dramatic life on the high seas in the service of a pirate captain and crew. The work opens with a dramatic introduction, followed by the main theme at m. 9. At m. 17 a secondary theme related to the primary melody emerges; the primary theme reappears at m. 25 in the violas and cellos. A briskersecond theme, at a faster tempo, derived from the introduction emerges in m. 33. This second theme alternates with a lyrical courtly dance theme beginning in m. 45. This section reflects the non-combative aspects of life at sea and the joy of moving before the wind. At m. 73 the piece returns to the vigorous first theme andthe secondary theme from m. 17 leading to a dramatic, swashbuckling ending.Care should be taken to contrast the robust music of the primary themes and the more dance-like music of the middle section. I am privileged to be able to share this work with you and your students. I hope that it serves to both entertain and educate.—Peter TerryBluffton, Ohio 2016. Choir; Early Music; Voice SKU: UT.ODH-35 Edited by Stefania Lanzo. Paperback (Soft Cover). Odhecaton. Classical. Softcover. 144 pages. Ut Orpheus #ODH 35. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.ODH-35). ISBN 9790215322578. 9 x 12 inches. L’amorosa caccia is a collection of 24 madrigals for five voices, created specially by as many composers originating from Mantua. All were distinguished professional people, working within the church, at court or in the Palatine basilica of Saint Barbara, and music lovers of noble birth from the area who were somehow connected to the Academy of the Invaghiti, or perhaps part of the same. Among the established musicians of the collection are to be mentioned: G.M. Bacchino, H. Baccusi, P. Cantino, A. Coma, G. Moro, S. Nascimbeni, A. Nuvoloni, N. Parma, G.B. Recalchi, F. Rovigo, A. Striggio, R. Trofeo. The lesser-known, however, seem to be: C. Accelli, E. Ceruti, S. Cressoni, P. Marni, A. Preti, while the following: H. Borelli, C. Ceruti, O. Grassi, P. Massari, G.B. Orto, F. Ramesini, C. Zucca have become known as composers only thanks to L’amorosa caccia. The realization in score of the madrigals has made it possible to bring to light this collection, establishing its actual musical value and proving the remarkable mastery of madrigal writing of these 24 musicians and offering the opportunity to highlight each one’s different skill as a composer. If some of them have proved to be completely in line with the practices of the time, verging on Augenmusik, others stand out for the wide variety of their harmonies, melodies and rhythms, seeking the best musical expressions to express the affetti contained in the text. There are no major breakthroughs, but, if the contrapuntal procedures are as to be expected, the body of voices, the experimentation, the interplay between the parts and the harmonic sensitivity show familiarity with the vocal virtuosity of the concerti di dame of Ferrara and Mantua, bringing out what was most modern at the time. The possibility that these madrigals may actually have been performed by that very group of talented singers is enchanting and entirely plausible. $51.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Piano Solo SKU: IS.PN6018EM Composed by Charles Camilleri. Keyboards - Piano. Metropolis Music Publishers #PN6018EM. Published by Metropolis Music Publishers (IS.PN6018EM). ISBN 9790365060184. The temples of Malta are the oldest stone buildings still standing on earth. They were built by a mysterious civilization which was very advanced for the time of 3,600 BC. Sometimes when we look at the ancient stones, it's fun to remember that children once played and danced in the temple courtyards. Surely those long-ago children made music, too. Charles Camilleri (1931 - 2009) was a Maltese composer. As a teenager, he composed a number of works based on folk music and legends of his native Malta. He moved from his early influences by Maltese folk music to a musical form in which nothing is fixed and his compositions evolve from themselves with a sense of fluency and inevitability. He composed over 100 works for orchestra, chamber ensemble, voice and solo instruments. Camilleri's work has been performed throughout the world and his research of folk music and improvisation, the influences of the sounds of Africa and Asia, together with the academic study of European music, helped him create a universal style. Camilleri is recognized in Malta as one of the major composers of his generation. He died on 3 January 2009 at the age of 77. His funeral took place two days later at Naxxar, his long-time town of residence. Flags across Malta were flown at half-mast in tribute to him. $19.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Trumpet(s) solo SKU: BR.DV-32027 Trumpet Music of the 17th and 18th Centuries. Composed by Kurt (Hrsg.) Janetzky. Edited by Kurt Janetzky. Solo instruments; Softcover. Deutscher Verlag. Z.T. mit Pauken und B.c. Baroque period. Score. 24 pages. Deutscher Verlag fur Musik #DV 32027. Published by Deutscher Verlag fur Musik (BR.DV-32027). ISBN 9790200425192. 9 x 12 inches. Bicinia - unaccompanied duos - have been known to us from the fifteenth century onwards. So quite early on it was customary tu practise this type of musical exercise, which later, especially during the Romantic period, achieved great popularity as the duo or duett. Equal numbers of this sort of instrumental duo were composed for nearly all wind and string instruments. On the other hand, only a small amount of compositions for two trumpets have come down to us. In order to play any music which progresses beyond pure fanfare on a natural (valueless) trumpet, it is necessary to make use of the clarion register (the top third of the natural harmonic). And if such a melody is to be accompanied by a second part, only the few natural notes lying below it are left, or else this high register itself, which calls for great virtuosity on the part of the trumpeter. As well as this, we must remember the fact that trumpet-playing was only allowed for the trumpeters of a royal court, army, staff, or for the field-trumpeter of a prince, plus a few council, city, and church musicians, who were bound by strict guild and corporation rules. Thus in spite of the preference for its festive sound, the spread and handing down of trumpet music was almost reduced to nothing under these circumstances. As well as this, pride of place and profession rivalry and envy amongst musicians contributed in large part. In England the situation was somewhat freer. Here pretty little trumpet duos originated, including, amongst others, those written by Handel for his master-trumpeter Valentin Snow and the Royal Sergeant-trumpeters of the Shore family. An especially happy exception was the diocese of Olmiitz. Here there was a capable group of musicians of the chapel royal with the brilliantly talented group of trumpeters and the field-trumpeter Pavel Vajvanovsky, who also composed himself. These trumpeters in the service of his prince-bishop played many sacred and secular pieces, all for several instruments. It was for them also that Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber wrote the 12 double trumpet sonatas we present here. On the other hand, the representatives of the authorities in Germany ensured strict observation of all edicts and regulations. Even the celebrated Bach-trumpeter and towm-piper Gottfried Reiche was never allowed to be portrayed with a proper trumpet due to the priveleges of court and field trumpeters. In order to represent him as one of the greatest masters of his time and art, however, the painter placed an instrument similar to a corno-di-caccia in his hand, together with a sheet with a small piece for virtuoso clarion. When we try in spite of these difficulties and adverse circumstances to gather a collection of musically valuable and characteristic examples of popular pieces for two trumpets from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, it is in the first, place in order to acquaint modern trumpeters with something of the wealth of music, which can also be well played on a modern trumpet with valves. The originally used trumpets correspond to modern ones in the keys of C and D, but this does not mean that many of the pieces cannot be transposed to a more comfortable register. On top of this, we have tried to give a picture of the baroque court and field trumpeter, as well as of the mysterious clarion trumpeter, with the help of musically popular material. The origin of most of the pieces used is no longer clearly discernable. In most cases we possess second- or third-hand copies which have been handed down, and show signs of frequent use. A few cases where modernization of the second part obviously did not take place until the invention of stops, have been re-shaped into their supposed original form. A series of further dynamic details were left, and marked as optional suggestions in brackets. Kurt Janetzky

Version in A major (version in G major: Carus 31.182/50) The cantata Himmelskonig, sei willkommen BWV 182 holds a special place in Johann Sebastian Bach's biography. He had been employed as organist and chamber musician at the court of Weimar since 1708; on 2 March 1714, he was appointed concert master of the court, and his inauguration music for this occasion was Himmelskonig, sei willkommen. The cantata was first performed on Palm Sunday of that year, 25 March 1714. Bach performed this cantata several times - always revising and amending it - both in Weimar and in Leipzig. Of the altogether four versions, the first Leipzig version has been selected for the present new edition. Unlike the Weimar versions, it can be realized effectively using modern performance means. In his debut composition of 1714, the newly appointed concert master demonstrated his abilities: the eight movements contain a multitude of beautiful and rewarding challenges for choir and vocal soloists alike, and in addition there is the unusual attraction of a virtuoso solo part for the recorder. Version in G major (A major = Carus 31.182/00) The cantata Himmelskonig, sei willkommen BWV 182 holds a special place in Johann Sebastian Bach's biography. SATB choir, vocal soli, orchestra SKU: CA.2708449 Composed by Joseph Leop...(+)
SATB choir, vocal soli, orchestra SKU: CA.2708449 Composed by Joseph Leopold Eybler. Edited by Armin Kircher. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Masses, Latin. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1835. 16 pages. Duration 22 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 27.084/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.2708449). ISBN 9790007200169. Language: Latin. Mozart and Haydn greatly admired the church music of their friend, the composer and Vienna court Kapellmeister Joseph Eybler. With its lyrical-pastoral mood, his Missa Sancti Alberti contrasts with his large-scale mass settings; in structure, extent, and orchestration it recalls Franz Schubert's well-known Mass in G major. Apart from two solo quartets which can be performed by soloists from the choir) the chorus is the main carrier of the musical action; the concise setting of the mass text is mainly set homophonically. Starting with a basic string group, the orchestra can be expanded ad libitum by the addition of two oboes, two bassoons, two trumpets, and timpani, enabling the work to be presented in its masterly orchestration.
