SKU: HL.200476 Artist Management: The Ultimate Responsibility. Book. Instruction, Music Business. Softcover. 304 pages. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.200476). ISBN 9780965125079. UPC: 888680650773. 8.5x11.0x0.616 inches. Stephen Marcone with David Philp. Making it in music has never been easy, but today it's harder than ever before. The digital age has dawned and, with it, the music biz has wholly merged with the entertainment industry. Up-and-comers are immediately faced with a dire choice: alter your art to appease the powers that be or learn to navigate the notoriously grimy underside of the most glamorous profession in the world. Whether you're a self-reliant DIY musician or an aspiring personal manager, Stephen Marcone and David Philp's Managing Your Band -Artist Management: The Ultimate Responsibility can help you keep your shirt and maybe - just maybe - make a buck, all for less than the price of a decent dinner. Now in its sixth edition, Managing Your Band has long since been the standard bearer for aspirants and hardened vets alike. From dive bars to festivals, from branding and merchandising to marketing and publicity, from publishing and licensing to rights and contracts, Marcone and Philp leave no stone unturned in this comprehensive guide to artist management. A lofty claim, eh? No need to take our word for it - luminaries in every corner of the industry are willing to testify. To put it mildly, the book has a reputation with record labels. John Butler, Vice President of Promotion at Curb, believes that Marcone and Philp take on our ever-changing business with a fresh and complete approach. The breadth of information here is as important to veterans as it is to the new entrepreneurs that will power the current and next versions of the music industry. Paul Sinclair, the EVP of Digital Strategy & Innovation at Atlantic, attests that the 6th edition of Managing Your Band provides an excellent blueprint to follow paths of flexibility and specificity toward a successful career in music. In this book, you find the framework. Implement it well and you have a better shot of finding success with your musical art. Joe Riccitelli, the EVP/GM of RCA, considers the book a must for new and established managers who may need a brush-up on topics they have forgotten, as Stephen's & David's vast experience pays off in the 6th edition. Hell, this is the only book music mogul Harvey Leeds took to Israel to teach the Israelis about the international music and entertainment business! In the end, we think Doc McGhee, the man who whisked Bon Jovi and Motley Crue to superstardom, says it best: I wish I had something like this when I was starting out! What more can we say? Pick up the latest edition of Managing Your Band and chase that wild dream! $34.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Choral Cello, Flute, Harp, Oboe, Percussion, Piano, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2, alto voice, bass voice, soprano voice, tenor voice SKU: PR.31241902A From Terra Nostra. Composed by Stacy Garrop. Set of Score and Parts. Duration 3:15. Theodore Presser Company #312-41902A. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.31241902A). UPC: 680160690510. English. Commissioned by the San Francisco Choral Society and the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir, Terra Nostra is a 70-minute oratorio on the relationship between our planet and humankind, how this relationship has shifted over time, and how we can re-establish a harmonious balance. Part I: Creation of the World explores various creation myths from different cultures, culminating in a joyous celebration of the beauty of our planet. Part II: The Rise of Humanity examines human achievements, particularly since the dawn of our Industrial Age, and how these achievements have impacted the planet. Part III: Searching for Balance questions how to create more awareness for our planet’s plight, re-establish a deeper connection to it, and find a balance for living within our planet’s resources. In addition to the complete oratorio, stand-alone movements for mixed chorus, and for solo voice with piano, are also available separately. Terra Nostra focuses on the relationship between our planet and mankind, how this relationship has shifted over time, and how we can re-establish a harmonious balance. The oratorio is divided into three parts:Part I: Creation of the World celebrates the birth and beauty of our planet. The oratorio begins with creation myths from India, North America, and Egypt that are integrated into the opening lines of Genesis from the Old Testament. The music surges forth from these creation stories into “God’s World†by Edna St. Vincent Millay, which describes the world in exuberant and vivid detail. Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “On thine own child†praises Mother Earth for her role bringing forth all life, while Walt Whitman sings a love song to the planet in “Smile O voluptuous cool-breathed earth!†Part I ends with “A Blade of Grass†in which Whitman muses how our planet has been spinning in the heavens for a very long time.Part II: The Rise of Humanity examines the achievements of mankind, particularly since the dawn of the Industrial Age. Lord Alfred Tennyson’s “Locksley Hall†sets an auspicious tone that mankind is on the verge of great discoveries. This is followed in short order by Charles Mackay’s “Railways 1846,†William Ernest Henley’s “A Song of Speed,†and John Gillespie Magee, Jr.’s “High Flight,†each of which celebrates a new milestone in technological achievement. In “Binsey Poplars,†Gerard Manley Hopkins takes note of the effect that these advances are having on the planet, with trees being brought down and landscapes forever changed. Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “A Dirge†concludes Part II with a warning that the planet is beginning to sound a grave alarm.Part III: Searching for Balance questions how we can create more awareness for our planet’s plight, re-establish a deeper connection to it, and find a balance for living within our planet’s resources. Three texts continue the earth’s plea that ended the previous section: Lord Byron’s “Darkness†speaks of a natural disaster (a volcano) that has blotted out the sun from humanity and the panic that ensues; contemporary poet Esther Iverem’s “Earth Screaming†gives voice to the modern issues of our changing climate; and William Wordsworth’s “The World Is Too Much With Us†warns us that we are almost out of time to change our course. Contemporary/agrarian poet Wendell Berry’s “The Want of Peace†speaks to us at the climax of the oratorio, reminding us that we can find harmony with the planet if we choose to live more simply, and to recall that we ourselves came from the earth. Two Walt Whitman texts (“A Child said, What is the grass?†and “There was a child went forth every dayâ€) echo Berry’s thoughts, reminding us that we are of the earth, as is everything that we see on our planet. The oratorio concludes with a reprise of Whitman’s “A Blade of Grass†from Part I, this time interspersed with an additional Whitman text that sublimely states, “I bequeath myself to the dirt to grow from the grass I love…â€My hope in writing this oratorio is to invite audience members to consider how we interact with our planet, and what we can each personally do to keep the planet going for future generations. We are the only stewards Earth has; what can we each do to leave her in better shape than we found her? $33.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

ISBN 9783761822708. 41.7 x 30 cm inches. Text Language: English, German. This Tristan will be something formidable! This last act!
I fear the opera will be banned - if the whole work is not parodied through bad performance: only mediocre performances can save me! Thoroughly good ones will surely drive people crazy. Richard Wagner
While working on the score toTristan und Isolde, Richard Wagner expressed his excitement and elation about his new musical drama. Indeed, the radical originality of the work proved to be both unique and forward-looking: Over 150 years ago it signified thedawnof the modern era and to this day it has not lost any of its fascination. Throughout his life, Richard Wagner was proud of his even handwriting.
He constantly strove to produce manuscripts of a high calligraphic standard. The Tristan manuscript is also clearly written. More so than in his other scores however, traces of his working process are evident. It is precisely this aspect of the autograph that makes it fascinating. Reading it, one is witness to Wagner's highlyconcentrated, powerful and relentless writing. This manuscript is in every possible way unparalleled reflecting individuality and uniqueness.
In time for the 200th anniversary of Wagner's birth in 2013, this great work is published as a BARENREITER FACSIMILE in cooperation with the National Archive of the Richard-Wagner-Stiftung Bayreuth. In addition to the complete score, the edition includes the autograph concert ending of the Vorspiel as well as three pages that Wagner rejected while composing and later used for sketches.
Ulrich Konrad, the renowned musicologist describes the genesis and performance history of the work in his comprehensive commentary. He also details the physical appearance and condition of the autograph as well as giving an insight into the musical language of Wagner.

Organ SKU: SU.80101403 For Organ. Composed by Carson Cooman. Keyboard, Organ. Score. Zimbel Press #80101403. Published by Zimbel Press (SU.80101403). Symphony for Organ (2013) is cast as a dramatic progression from darkness into light. The first movement, Masque, is extremely violent and bleak. The title is used with a touch of irony--for this is not a masque of courtly diversion, but rather a furious struggle against the darkness, played out in a series of dramatic episodes following a Tudor-era formal design. The ending builds to a dramatic peak, and leaves us in shell-shocked silence. The second movement, Sarabande, begins quietly and mournfully, and gradually gains in fervency. A faster middle section is a spinning dance before the return of the opening music. In the coda, the light gradually approaches. The third movement, Chorale, evokes the colors of a new dawn. The music of the first movement's struggle gradually becomes washed in the blaze of morning. Worshipped as a deity, “mastermind†of poetry, driving force, or heaven’s messenger, the wind took on the most varied shapes according to the era and people. In Claude Debussy’s time, music listened to the voice of nature, and imagination found its primary rights again. This importance of wind was the inspiration for Maxime Aulio’s work Whispering Wind with its suspended atmospheres, vaporous lines and luminous colours. The wind caresses the canvas. A fascinatingnew work for concert band.

$24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band/Harmonie - Grade 4 SKU: BT.DHP-1053880-010 Composed by Maxime Aulio. Inspiration Series. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2005. De Haske Publications #DHP 1053880-010. Published by De Haske Publications (BT.DHP-1053880-010). 9x12 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. “Don’t listen to anyone’s advice, but listen to the lessons of the wind passing and telling the history of the world.†Claude Debussy Since the dawn of time, the wind has played an important role in all civilisations.
Composed b...(+)
Chamber Music SKU: PR.41641301L Concerto da Camera III. Composed by Shulamit Ran. Large Score. With Standard notation. Duration 19 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #416-41301L. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.41641301L). UPC: 680160619795. Under the Sun's Gaze as a title for a musical composition conjures up many possibilities. It is, in fact, an imagined line from an unwritten poem, invented with the idea of capturing something of the visual aura the sounds and energy of this work invoke in its composer' mind. An omnipotent presence in all of nature, a source of life yet also capable of its destruction, the sun affects the light and dark in our physical existence as it defines the daily and seasonal life. The music of this work, in three interlocking parts, takes turns being exuberant, caressing, scorching, receding, hazy, lazy, blazing, dissolving into darkness, blinding in its intensity. Subtitled Concerto da Camera III, this work is written for what has become known as the standard Pierrot instrumentation of flute, clarinet, violin, cello, piano plus percussion. The difference here is that the winds are doubled - the two flutists alternating with piccolo and alto flute and both clarinetists also doubling on bass clarinets. The ninth member of the ensemble, a soprano saxophone, appears well into the piece, its lyrical, plaintively expressive quality dominating the musical terrain for a while. While occasionally joining the others for some tutti outbursts, it maintains its position as something of a guest throughout. Of the various thematic ideas that populate this work, a six-note descending line played by the clarinet appearing right at the work's opening then arching back up reveals itself, as the music unfolds, to be the principal melodic building block of Under the Sun's Gaze. Its various transformations include the plaintive soprano saxophone melody appearing in the middle section. Just under 20 minutes in length, the work in its totality can be heard as being in a loose arch form, its ending receding into a distant darkening horizon which carries in it the seed of the new dawn that lies beyond. Under the Sun's Gaze was commissioned by the Serge Koussevitzky Music Foundation in the Library of Congress for the San Francisco Contemporary Players, David Milnes, conductor. $65.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Concert Band - Grade 5 SKU: HL.44010826 Grade 5 - Score and Parts. Composed by Philip Sparke. Anglo Music Concert Band. Concert Piece. Set (Score & Parts). Composed 2010. Duration 960 seconds. Anglo Music Press #AMP295010. Published by Anglo Music Press (HL.44010826). UPC: 884088555818. 9.0x12.0x1.738 inches. English-German-French-Dutch. Atlantic Odyssey was commissioned by the band program at Oakton High School in Vienna, VA, and its director, Dr. Cheryl Newton. The piece is in two extended movements and seeks to portray an imaginary yacht journey off the eastern seaboard of the USA. The first movement, Sunrise at Sea and the Ocean Awakes, opens with an atmospheric depiction of dawn at sea. Floating woodwinds soar above surging brass until a climax heralds the rising sun. Daylight reveals distant horizons and the prospect of a calm voyage, but the sea is never tamed and a light breeze whips up spray around the boat until a couple of high waves rock the boat alarmingly. But the sea soon calms again and the journey continues serenely. The second movement, Homeward Bound and Spindrift, sees us turn for home, the boat scything calmly through the gentle waves in perfect sailing conditions. But once again conditions change, a stiff breeze tugs at the sails and for a moment we are once again at the mercy of the wind and waves. A moment of calm returns but we are suddenly sprayed by spindrift as a gale picks up. The boat is in danger of overturning but we manage to trim the sail and take advantage of the strong winds to enjoy and exhilarating journey home. $319.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
