| Void of Day Flute Trio: 3 flutes Potenza Music
Flute trio SKU: P2.10022 Composed by Cornelius Boots. Chamber music, 20th...(+)
Flute trio SKU: P2.10022 Composed by Cornelius Boots. Chamber music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.10022). The third part of the Chthonic Flute Suite commissioned by Areon Flutes in 2012. This suite has two main inspirations: ideologically it draws guidance from the book The Dream and the Underworld (1979)by James Hillman (1926-2011) and musically it explores the textural possibilities of a flute ensemble within the context of the heavy chamber music style I have developed with Edmund Welles: the bass clarinet quartet since 1996. This style draws virtuosic precision from the classical realm; innovation and texture from jazz; and power, rhythm and overall perspective from rock and metal. The term chthonic [thon-ik] generally means underworld. However, Hillman thoroughly elaborates that its true meaning extends below the earth and beyond it into invisible, non-physical and far distant psychic realms: the deeper mysteries of the invisible. The trio is divided into three sections: The Way We Descend--Reflection of Narcissus--Below Nature. Taking a break from Greek myth-nerd terms, this movement introduces chthonic-flavored phrases that elaborate on our descent into the underworld, specifically through dreams. The realm of the underworld can be such a shock to our dayworld, limited, egoic consciousness that it can seem like a violation as Hillman points out, referencing the Greeks: This style of the underworld experience is overwhelming, it comes as violation, dragging one out of life and into the Kingdom that the Orphic Hymn to Pluto describes as 'void of day.' So it often says on Greek epitaphs that entering Hades is 'leaving the sweet sunlight.' (p.49) He elaborates on the differences between dayworld and underworld perspectives: The dream is not compensation but initiation. It does not complete ego-consciousness, but voids it. So it matters very much the way we descend. (p.112) He goes on to describe the various modes in which mythical figures have descended: Ulysses and Aenas to learn; Hercules to take and to test, for example. To act like Hercules, like the hero, in the underworld is to miss the point and cause more problems, the villain in the underworld is the heroic ego, not Hades. (p.113). $21.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Chamber Music Violin, cello, Piano SKU: PR.114418250 Composed by Stacy Garrop. Contemporary. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. Composed 2013. 40+16+16 pages. Duration 23 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41825. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114418250). UPC: 680160640959. 9 x 12 inches. In 2011, Barbara Garrop, my mother, commissioned me to write a piano trio in memory of Norman Garrop, my father, who passed away about thirty years ago. When I started brainstorming about topics for the piece, I found it difficult to recall many moments of my early life involving my father. Too many years had passed, and the memories that I could summon were of achild looking up to her father, not an adult relating to an equal. However, while collecting stories of my father from various family members, along with discovering a number of objects that had once belonged to him and that I had stored away in boxes decades ago, I began to realize that this piece wasn't so much about my father as it was about my re-discovering the man that he was: a loving husband and dad who cared deeply about his family and his passions (which included bike riding, collecting coins, strumming our guitar, playing baseball, watching football games, entertaining people, helping to run local theater and puppet productions, and carving objects out of wook); an accountant who dreamed of a better future: a treasurer of our local synagogue; an early advocate for computers (we owned an Apple II+); and a pranster with a great sense of humor. Ultimately, I decided to musically tell the story of my search for these memories. In the first movement (Without), a child calls out in a sing-song voice, searching for her lost parent. This search intesifies over the course of the movement through a series of themes, including a stepping motif in which a two-note progression steadily climbs higher, a pseudo-jewish folksong, and a passionate longing theme. The child's search becomes increasingly intense throughout the movement, calling out fervently and repeatedly to the parent; the movement ends in a moment of great tnesion and uncertainty. The second movment (Within) quietly opens with the lost parent finally answering, represented by a solo cello; the child (now personified by the violin) has found the parent within the sanctuary of her own heart. This movement highlights the joy and solemnity of this beautiful discovery. -S.G. $43.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| Dance On Deep Waters Piano solo - Intermediate Barenreiter
Piano - Level 3 SKU: BA.BA08772 Composed by Edgar Knecht. Stapled. Perfor...(+)
Piano - Level 3 SKU: BA.BA08772 Composed by Edgar Knecht. Stapled. Performance score, anthology. 43 pages. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA08772_00. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA08772). ISBN 9790006502349. 30 x 23 cm inches. Language: German/English. Preface: Knecht, Edgar. Edgar Knecht is a jazz pianist who has created his own unique style. His dbut CD, “Good Morning Lilofee†(with four-piece combo), conquered the clubs and earned him invitations to international festivals. His treatment of the original melodies is refreshingly different from standard jazz arrangements: It is characterized by a free perception of the tunes, varied rhythms as well as unconventional harmonies. The same recipe for success underlies his second CD, “Dance On Deep Watersâ€, with which the Edgar Knecht Quartet is again going on tour, with many gigs lined up for spring and summer.
All eight of the songs in our edition offer agreeable and stimulating literature outside the classical and jazz pigeonholes for pianists everywhere, whether or not they dig German folksongs. Familiar tunes such as “Es freit der wilde Wassermann†or “Die Gedanken sind frei†gain a wholly new quality and pizzazz in his arrangements. Though based on the original songs, the pieces go far beyond them in form, harmony and rhythm, thereby turning the originals into top-quality jazz ballads. All the pieces have suggestions for improvised passages, usually with chords and written-out ostinato bass lines.
All the pieces are recorded on the like-named CD with Edgar Knecht at the piano, accompanied by his trio of bass, drums and percussion.
The Author Edgar Knecht lives in Kassel (Germany), where he heads a piano school and tours with his combo. Since the age of 14 he has held concerts with his own piano pieces and written many theatre, film and TV scores. With his Edgar Knecht Trio he transforms German folksongs into fascinating jazz ballads with which he fills his programmes and venues.

Clarinet, violin and piano (Chamber Ensemble) - difficult SKU: HL.49019079(+)
Clarinet, violin and piano (Chamber Ensemble) - difficult SKU: HL.49019079 (in memoriam Laszlo Polgar). Composed by Detlev Mueller-Siemens. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Ensemble. Softcover. Composed 2010. 36 pages. Duration 12'. Schott Music #ED21208. Published by Schott Music (HL.49019079). ISBN 9790001178686. UPC: 884088907358. 9.0x12.0x0.103 inches. 'Privacy' means separation. The title of the trio for clarinet, violin and piano thus describes the character of the piece. The piano weaves sound tapestries of deep and long, yet fully fingered chords which increase their tempo in the course of the piece. In contrast to that, the melody of the violin is for the most part played in a very high register. It is the clarinet that fills the space between these extremes by means of trembling trills, always following the rhythm of the violin and answering to the latter like an echo. $27.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Edited by Reinhold Kubik. Arranged by Paul Horn. Hymns by Martin Luther: Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir. German title: Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas. Choral Score. Composed 1724. BWV 38. 12 pages. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.038/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3103805). ISBN 9790007042769. Key: E phrygian. Language: German. Text: Luther, Martin. Text: Martin Luther. The opening movement of Bach's chorale cantata on Luther's In deepest need I cry to you BWV 38, which was composed for the 21st Sunday after Trinity Sunday, belongs to a group of cantatas whose opening choruses are not concertante but have been kept in the style of a motet; the instruments merely amplify the vocal parts. The archaic character of the movement is emphasized by the addition of a trombone quartet. An exciting recitative and an aria full of pungent harmonies is followed by an entirely unusual recitative in which the chorale melody forms the bass foundation for the vocal part. A second aria - which is no less unusual -is a trio which is only accompanied by the continuo; it leads into the concluding chorale which, pursuant to the 1st line of text Ob bei uns ist der Sunden viel, already begins with a brusque dissonance. Arranged by Paul Horn. Hymns by Martin Luther: Aus tiefer Not schrei ich zu dir. Organ. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas. Single Part, Organ. Composed 1724. BWV 38. 20 pages. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.038/49. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3103849). ISBN 9790007205706. Key: E phrygian. Language: German. Text: Luther, Martin. Score and part available separately - see item CA.3103800. $21.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
