Choral SATB Choir and Piano SKU: PR.312418800 No. 4 from Second April. Composed by Eric Ewazen. Octavo. Performance Score. Theodore Presser Company #312-41880. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.312418800). ISBN 9781491138151. UPC: 680160640225. Second April, by Edna St. Vincent Millay. Second April for S.A.T.B. Chorus and Piano is a four-movement set, based on the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. Ewazen has long been enamored with her poetry's wonderfully vivid and descriptive imagery of nature and emotions, and its powerful and profound meaning. The final movement, INTO THE GOLDEN VESSEL OF GREAT SONG is an appassionato call to overcome! The poem exhorts us to “sing out” with hope, determination, and strength. The music contrasts turmoil and times of strife with a return to championing the idea of simply overcoming, going forward with hope and determination, with the closing music in major, resonant and strong. . SECOND APRIL for S.A.T.B. Chorus and Piano is a four-movement set, based on the poetry of Edna St. Vincent Millay. I have long been enamored with the poetry of Millay for its wonderfully vivid and descriptive imagery, and its often powerful and profound meaning. Millay’s descriptions of nature, and of feelings and emotions, have always spoken to me. SECOND APRIL consists of four of her poems, each with a distinctive mood, message, and emotional feel. They are vivid, powerful, and beautiful, inspiring me to capture these descriptions of the various scenes she portrays. Song of a Second April uses music to underlie strong feelings, passions, and the tragedies of life. The poem itself is dramatic, detailing a time of personal strife and tragedy, perhaps the end of a relationship or even the end of a life. The music is intense, fast, in a minor key, and with rapid, spinning notes creating a feeling of powerful, relentless emotions. Melodies, motives, and gestures are tossed between the voices, increasing the feelings of intensity and even desperation. Little by little, the music almost dies away, getting quieter and quieter, creating a feeling of resignation, but with a Picardy Third in the final chord – maybe a bit of hope! Mariposa is a celebration of nature, wandering through a field with white and blue butterflies appearing almost wondrously. But there’s also a profound feeling of poignancy, noting that as one relishes such a beautiful, magical sight, they should embrace the experience – the fleeting, transient nature of such a perfect vision and of life itself. The music portrays the flying of the butterflies: gentle, beautiful, with rich chords and arpeggios, but stepping back, as the fleeting nature of life is the reality, with gentle, but sombre chords interspersed with the magical flight of the Mariposa.Alms is a fast rondo, intense, bold, and always dance-like. It is about both tragedy and resilience. This music is also in minor, yet with moments of playfulness, as a recollection of happy times or moments takes over. This seesaw between emotions is heard throughout the movement, as the music continues to “dance.” And with Millay’s summing up of “reality being what it is,” the piece ends with strength, boldness, and finality. Into the Golden Vessel of Great Song is an appassionato call to overcome! The poem exhorts us to “sing out” with hope, determination, and strength. The music is full of bright and lilting energy; but as the turmoil and times of strife people can sometimes feel or experience, the music becomes intense, dramatic, in a minor key, and with changing rhythms. BUT, there is a return to championing the idea of simply overcoming, going forward with hope and determination, and the music is in major, resonant and strong. . $3.75 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

| The Road Not Taken Carl Fischer
Choral Cello, Piano, SATB chorus SKU: CF.CM9714 Composed by Z. Randall St...(+)
Choral Cello, Piano, SATB chorus SKU: CF.CM9714 Composed by Z. Randall Stroope. 16 pages. Duration 4 minutes, 48 seconds. Carl Fischer Music #CM9714. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CM9714). ISBN 9781491160329. UPC: 680160918904. Key: F major. English. Robert Frost. About the work ... Few American poems are as well known as The Road Not Taken. Robert Frost, the author, is an international icon, not unlike Pablo Picasso, Winston Churchill or Mark Twain in their own disciplines. The poem is full of contradictions and quirks of form and structure. Perhaps that illusiveness is part of the poem's intrigue. But beyond all of the literary devices that only a few scholars may fully appreciate, this poem has taken on a sort of fanfare for the common person credo - a challenge to individualism, stepping out on one's own, and breaking the mold out of sheer determination if nothing else. Frost connects to the core of the human spirit in just a few stanzas using the analogy of a fork in a road. The message super cedes geography, culture, race or creed. Rather, it is part of the DNA of most every person on the planet - the inner desire to feel empowered to create one's own destiny, to forge a road not taken, and ultimately in doing so, to make a difference. Rehearsal notes ... Research strongly suggests that there is a direct connection between the first rehearsal and the performance. First impressions last. I find it helpful to immediately lock three concepts into place - mechanics (notes/rhythms), text/phrasing (intent and motivation) and color (timbre). Performers need to think musically from the first reading forward (first impression). The cello is very much a collaborative instrument in this work, and should be located in front of the ensemble (not to side). Lastly, let the text speak. The simplest melodic lines are often the most exposed. Keep the voices clear and transparent, floating over the top in softer passages, and singing with vibrancy and forward focus throughout. Z. Randall Stroope A definitive recording was made by the New American Voices, with Randall conducting. This can be found on Spotify, YouTube, his website (www.zrstroope), and other social media. About the composer ... Z. Randall Stroope is an American composer and conductor. His composition teachers were Normand Lockwood and Cecil Effinger, both students of the Nadia Boulanger, the famous French teacher (and student of Gabriel Faure). He is the artistic director of two international summer music festivals, is an Honorary Member of the National Association of Italian Choral Directors, and has conducted in 25 countries. He has directed over 40 times at Carnegie Hall, and is a frequent conductor at other prestigious concert venues. With Wind and Water is a musical portrayal of an adventure on the high seas during the sailing age. It was during the 16th to the mid-19th century where large sailing vessels dominated global exploration, international trade, and naval warfare. The piece's compound meter provides the pulse of movement as it pitches and rolls with the rhythm of the waves. The driving main melodies convey the determination and courage of the explorers and their crew. Dissonant harmonies suggest rough seas, turbulent weather, and other constant dangers that sailors must endure. Finally, the ending sweeping melody and climax reflects the joy and triumph at arriving on a new land at the apex of a long and intense voyage. With evidence of watercraft dating back to 8000 BC, travel by water has remained an important aspect of life to many civilizations. From paddling down a river or crossing a large lake, to steaming across an entire ocean, generations of humans have traveled on water to explore foreign lands, to seek food and precious materials, to move and trade cargo, and to attack and fend off enemies. With Wind and Water is a musical portrayal of an adventure on the high seas during the age of sail. PROGRAM NOTES Heartbreak Trail describes the forced relocation of approximately 100,000 Native Americans in the 1830s. Known as the Trail of Tears, thousands lost their lives during the march, and it is remembered today as a great human-rights atrocity and a shameful period in American history. The opening A-section captures the sadness of those in the five tribes who were forced from their homeland. The fast B-section represents the determination to survive the long, difficult trek. Although there were many obstacles, thousands did survive, but a dark A-section returns to depict the loss of homeland, fellow tribe members, and a depression over the new lack of freedom. PERFORMANCE NOTES The opening should be at a moderate pace and section entrances should be balanced at mezzo piano. In m. 12 have the woodwinds play out their melodic material. In m. 20 the brass should pick up the same volume level as did the woodwinds previously. Measure 27 should die away from what was, and then a sudden change in volume, and mood at m. 31. The entire B-section should be bold, with attention paid to the many accents. (Before working the B-section, an explanation of the difference in accents will probably aid in accuracy.) Measures 37 and 41 have the timpanist and tom-tom player play a very strong forte with attention to the accents. Measures 51 to 52 work a strong quick crescendo to fortissimo. This should set up the tutti forte at m. 53. In m. 61 start a gradual diminuendo to the return of the A-section at m. 68. Explain how to execute the staggered breathing for the flutes, tenor sax and trombone starting at m. 73. Although the final percussion from m. 73 to the end is soft and fading, make sure the final sleigh bell sounds are heard clearly.  PROGRAM NOTESHeartbreak Trail describes the forced relocation of approximately 100,000 Native Americans in the 1830s. Wagner has written, “I was so moved by the careful preparation, determination, patience, and artistry of this little fish, who has no guarantees of finding true love. The phenomenon reminded me very much of the act of composing – of creating something outof nothing, with few guarantees.â€. Several years ago, a friend shared the most marvelous video with me. In it, an industrious little puffer fish begins to prepare an elaborate work of artistry – his “etchings†– in hopes of attracting a sweetheart. Using only his fins, he prepares the “canvas†(the sandy ocean floor), and for the next week, working 24 hours a day, he carves a beautiful medallion of swirls and ridges. Shell pieces and pebbles are collected to adorn the masterpiece. And he waits.I was so moved by the careful preparation, determination, patience, and artistry of this little fish who has no guarantees of finding true love. The phenomenon reminded me very much of the act of composing – of creating something out of nothing with few guarantees. Rather than attempting to capture any action programmatically, I tried instead to express, in the abstract, the sense of anticipation, lovelorn hopefulness – and the optimism of a tiny, unsung hero. ISBN 9781491159651. UPC: 680160918249. Resolute was composed to celebrate the enduring spirit of those who persevere and overcome difficult challenges with fearless determination. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.312418780). ISBN 9781491138137. UPC: 680160640201. The second movement, MARIPOSA celebrates nature, wandering through a field of white and blue butterflies appearing wondrously, with rich chords and arpeggios. Yet also stepping back, the fleeting nature of life is the reality, with gentle, somber chords interspersed with the magical flight of the Mariposa. Program Notes by Eric EwazenSECOND APRIL for S.A.T.B. BUT, there is a return to championing the idea of simply overcoming, going forward with hope and determination, and the music is in major, resonant and strong. . $2.50 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

In a work of this magnitude, hundreds of decisions, from the significant to the seemingly insignificant, determine the quality of the final result. An uncompromising commitment to excellence has guided every step of the creation of The Celebration Hymnal.
The first step was to put together a leadership team with a vision for making The Celebration Hymnal truly innovative and exceptional. Tom Fettke, Senior Editor of The Celebration Hymnal, has been a composer, editor, arranger and producer of music for the church for over three decades, and served as Senior Editor of the highly regarded The Hymnal for Worship & Celebration. His love for music of the church, his desire to equip worship leaders, and his determination for excellence made him uniquely qualified for the ambitious undertaking of creating The Celebration Hymnal. Tom studied closely the needs of worship leaders, monitoring carefully the songs being used widely in today's evangelical church, and thoroughly researching new hymns and songs that will be sung by congregations in the years to come.
Camp Kirkland, Instrumental Editor for The Celebration Hymnal has been a major force in the development of instrumental music in the church over the last two decades, and is considered one of the foremost arrangers and orchestrators of our day. He has served as consultant and orchestrator on three previous hymnal projects. For two years, he and a team of twenty orchestrators have invested themselves in perfecting the orchestrations created for The Celebration Hymnal.
The involvement of a distinguished group of musicians, pastors, worship leaders, editors, and Bible scholars combining their experience, expertise, and enthusiasm has resulted in an exceptional hymnal of unsurpassed quality. A diverse group of consultants and advisors from a broad range of denominations participated in a rigorous process of design and song selection surveys, assuring that The Celebration Hymnal will provide the most beneficial features and the most usable collection of hymns, gospel songs and contemporary praise & worship songs.
Dr. Kenneth Barker, former Executive Director of the NIV Translation Center, served as Scripture Editor, ensuring the utmost integrity in the use of Scripture throughout The Celebration Hymnal.
The nearly 700 songs included in The Celebration Hymnal were chosen on the basis of textual integrity, musical interest, and universal usage by today's evangelical church. As a non-denominational hymnal, the compilation was developed with the sole purpose of providing the strongest possible collection of songs and hymns for today's congregations. Hundreds of songs were evaluated carefully by this broad spectrum of advisors and consultants.

| Clover Editorial de Musica Boileau
Violin, viola or cello and guitar SKU: BO.B.3687 Composed by Jaume Torren...(+)
Violin, viola or cello and guitar SKU: BO.B.3687 Composed by Jaume Torrent. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3687). In recent years one of the guiding principals of my work as a composer has been the creation of a repertoire of chamber music in which the guitar is treated as a concert instrument and also provides the harmonic basis for the music.
Firstly, it is my belief that the special polyphonic capabilities of the guitar can lead to the creation of a unique chamber music repertoire in which the limitations of the instrument are surpassed by the musical dialogue being shared among the various instruments. Secondly, bringing the guitar together with other instruments historically used in chamber music not only benefits the guitar but also allows the guitar to bring to the music different harmonic qualities, distinctive melodies and rhythms and gives the music a unique expressive richness not found in traditional chamber music.
The trio Clover was inspired by the small and beautiful plant of the same name. The three movements of the work (the characteristic three clover leaves) are structured according to the classic form: lively-tranquil-lively. The first movement is full of robust determination, the second alludes to the subtle rhythm of a siciliana and the third movement is a scherzo. The work was premiered by Paganini Trio (Joseph Gold, Debbie Dare and myself) during a tour of California (USA) using a Stradivarius violin made in 1690.
Lastly, I would like to insist-yet again--on the importance of the fact that guitar technique must be geared to fully utilize the level of volume of which the instrument is capable. With an adequate technique (see Estudio y sistematizacion del conjunto de recursos que posibilitan el desarrollo de una buena tecnica guitarristica [Systematic Study of the Various Resources That Contribute to the Development of a Good Guitar Technique] by J. Torrent -Ed. Boileau), a guitarist is capable of controlling the volume of which the instrument if capable without renouncing the level of volume that is required. Thus, a guitarist may use a wide range of dynamics, giving the player greater expressive possibilities and is thus able to integrate easily within chamber music groups without forcing the other instruments to lower their normal level of volume. $21.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
