2 tubas SKU: P2.PZA90187 Composed by Various. Edited by Zach Collins. Arr...(+)
2 tubas SKU: P2.PZA90187 Composed by Various. Edited by Zach Collins. Arranged by Jim Self. 2 tubas (or 2 bass trombones) or tuba/bass trombone with downloadable backing track. Score and downloadable audio. Published by Basset Hound Music (P2.PZA90187). Concert Duets is a collection of 14 arrangements of works by prominent 18th-century composers, mostly taken from Trio Sonatas. Duet 11 is a Jim Self original work in the Rococo style; and Duets 12, 13 and 14 are arrangements of the three-movements of the Bach Concerto for Two Violins. Included with this edition are play-along recorded tracks by tubist Zach Collins, who also served as editor of the current edition.
I created these duets as Christmas gifts for my tuba playing friends, with the first duet being arranged in 1976. All 14 of the duets are challenging and fun to play and are especially effective as concert pieces.
As a young musician I had the privilege of playing duets with many of the world’s finest tubists including Harvey Phillips, John Fletcher, Bob Pallansch, Chester, Schmitz, Dan Perantoni, Toby Hanks, Ron Bishop, Winston Morris and Tommy Johnson. I learned more about playing music in these duo sessions than from any other musical activity I have ever experienced. Duets are powerful teaching tools for learning and mastering rhythm, phrasing and intonation and for developing overall musicianship.
Jim Self:
Self (b. 1943) is a Los Angeles free-lance musician, a veteran of thousands of Hollywood motion pictures, television shows and records, and tuba soloist on many prominent movies. His tuba was the “Voice of the Mothership†in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He is Principal Tuba/Cimbasso with the Pacific and Pasadena Symphonies and the Los Angeles Opera and Hollywood Bowl Orchestras. Formerly he was in The U.S. Army Band and tuba / euphonium professor at the University of Tennessee. He holds a DMA from the USC Thornton School of Music where he is Adjunct Professor of Tuba and Chamber Music. His compositions and arrangements include works for solo tuba, brass quintet, other brass, string and woodwind chamber music, wind band and orchestra. Jim has produced many solo jazz and classical recordings. His music and recordings are available from Potenza Music and www.jimself.com. Jim Self is a Yamaha Performing Artist.
Zach Collins, editor:
Zach Collins is professor of Tuba and Euphonium at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. In 2019, he released his first solo album, Chronicle. It was recognized with the 2021 ITEA Roger Bobo Award for Excellence in Recording for the best Solo Tuba Album.
His interpretation of William Kraft’s Encounters II for Solo Tuba was released on Cambria Master Recordings. Zach performs with Eastern Standard, a horn, tuba, piano trio he formed with Heidi Lucas and Jacob Ertl. The ensemble has released two commercial albums, Eastern Standard and Wanderlust.
Zach regularly performs with the Keystone Chamber Winds, Altoona Symphony Orchestra, and West Virginia Symphony Orchestras. His compositions and arrangements for brass and for tuba and euphonium can be purchased from Cimarron Music and Eighth Note Publications. Zach earned degrees from Texas Christian University and the University of Southern California. His primary teachers have been Richard Murrow, Jim Self, Tommy Johnson, and Norm Pearson. Zach Collins is a Miraphone artist. $40.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Jacques-Martin Hotteterre (1673 - 1763) was the heir to a famous family of wind instrument inventors originating in Normandy, France. The Hotteterre family is known to have brought great innovations to the development of wind instruments, including the three-part demountable flute and the oboe, whose invention is credited to his grandfather Jean. Jacques-Martin Hotteterre was perhaps the most gifted of his dynasty, with his father Martin, a renowned flute craftsman who created instruments used by Jean-Baptiste Lully.
His nickname Roman was given to him following a stay in Rome. He was identified as Monsù Giacomo mastro di flauto (Monsieur Jacques master of flute), as documented at the court of The Marquis Francesco Maria Ruspoli in Rome.
David Lasocki was born in London in 1947 and grew up in Manchester. Then he lived and worked in the United States and now Brazil. He holds a PhD in musicology from The University of Iowa (1983) and his dissertation won a national prize. He retired as Head of Music Reference Services in the Cook Music Library, Indiana University–Bloomington in 2011 after working there for 24 years, and is now a self-employed writer, researcher, editor, publisher (see www.instantharmony.net), and energy healer.
Many kind people have viewed David as one of the world’s foremost researchers of the history of woodwind instruments, especially members of the flute family. His articles and books have also won national prizes, and he received a lifetime achievement award from the American Recorder Society in 2011.

| Choral Diversity GIA Publications
SKU: GI.G-10717 A Mosaic of Historical Composers and Compositions....(+)
SKU: GI.G-10717 A Mosaic of Historical Composers and Compositions. Composed by Dennis Shrock. Music Education. 294 pages. GIA Publications #10717. Published by GIA Publications (GI.G-10717). ISBN 9781622776597. Written by noted scholar and conductor Dennis Shrock, Choral Diversity is a presentation of composers throughout history who represent the broad and diverse canon of choral music. Included are twenty women composers and ten composers of color, many of whom have been previously underrepresented in studies and in performances. Each chapter presents overviews of the composer’s life and choral output, information and analysis of selected compositions, including complete texts and literal translations not found elsewhere, and guidelines that address related and important aspects of performance. Importantly, Shrock approaches choral diversity from multiple perspectives. Most notably, the book highlights the music of women composers—such as Hildegard von Bingen, Amy Beach, and Undine Smith Moore—as well as composers of color, including José MaurÃcio Nunes Garcia, William Grant Still, and Margaret Allison Bonds, among others. Rounding out his approach, Shrock also explores the lesser-known works of familiar composers such as Palestrina and Brahms. The book’s repertoire, too, represents a diversity of musical periods, styles, and genres—including chants, madrigals, chansons, motets, partsongs, oratorios, cantatas, and vocal chamber pieces—all of which are intended to be accessible to regular school, church, and community choruses. With its broad scope and scholarly authority, Choral Diversity is the ideal resource for conductors at all levels looking to diversify their concert programming in a practical and historically informed way. Dennis Shrock is author of ten books, three published by Oxford University Press and the remaining seven published by GIA Publications. He has held faculty positions at Boston University, Westminster Choir College, and the University of Oklahoma. He has also served as Artistic Director of the Santa Fe Desert Chorale and was a lecturer and member of the conducting staff at Yale University. Shrock received his master’s and doctoral degrees in choral conducting from Indiana University. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

James Jordan and The Same Stream should be commended for this album. The Same Stream succeeds in presenting this collection of twenty-first century choral music with a high degree of technical accuracy. Their sectional balance is nearly perfect, and contains impeccable intonation. The performances on this recording should have a wide appeal to twenty-first century choral music enthusiasts. — Gerrit S.C. Scheepers, Indiana, PA    Choral Journal (September 2020) These tracks represent the first full CD of a new American choral ensemble: The Same Stream. The choir’s very existence is the living result of questions regarding what it means to sing together within a deeply “knitted†community, a community that shares answers to commonly held questions and beliefs about what creates a truly human resonance within and among singers. For me, this ensemble is a continuation of beliefs that have been my North Star all of my career. To hear those questions answered and dreams become a reality with the establishment of The Same Stream choir is deeply humbling, gratifying and life affirming. It is our hope that these recordings enrich those who hear them—as much as making them has made our lives deeper and more meaningful. — James Jordan, Artistic Director and Conductor of The Same Stream    www.thesamestreamchoir.com Recorded in the unparalleled Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul in Philadelphia, The Same Stream's debut full-length recording, Songs of the Questioner, features music by outstanding living composers with a personal connection to the ensemble. Music by Thomas LaVoy, Paul Mealor, Peter Relph, and Dan Forrest help the listener to explore those deep and important questions that follow us throughout our entire lives. $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.FPS151). ISBN 9781491152119. UPC: 680160909612. Everyone remembers the first time that they saw a snake. Though fascinating to some and terrifying to others, few animals are as universally mesmerizing. Composer Tyler Arcari has crafted a very fun piece making use of auxiliary percussion instruments to emulate a snake's hiss or ominous rattle. With very strong and interesting melodic material, and scored to make a developing band sound great, this piece is sure to be a favorite among students. Everyone remembers the first time that they saw a snake. The majority of people have a base fear of them, while others have a “heebie-jeebies†experience. We all know how the great explorer Dr. Indiana Jones felt about snakes, especially when he famously fell into a snake pit during Raiders of the Lost Ark. However you feel about snakes, a pit of them certainly sounds like an adventure.About the work:Snake Pit uses a lot of auxiliary percussion instruments. Some of these sounds are intended to subtly mimic the sounds that snakes make. The maraca in m. 4, of course, is a rattler’s call! The Chinese cymbal is intended to sound like the “hiss†of a not-so-friendly serpent. The eighth-note pattern at m. 9 is used throughout as a “creepy†effect using dynamic contrast so take care to emphasize this when present.I enjoy the gong as a “color†instrument in the band. I try to balance it with the low brass. Take care that at m. 42 the gong is not “front-and center†but more of a support for the nice accented chords in the low brass. Also, the trumpets can become spaced too much here. The accents are more for emphasis and less space. $60.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Orchestra full orchestra - Grade 5 SKU: KJ.JO2002C Composed by Jack Stamp. Score and parts. Neil A. Kjos Music Company #JO2002C. Published by Neil A. Kjos Music Company (KJ.JO2002C). It was with great pleasure that received a commission from my good friends at the Johnstown (Pennsylvania) Symphony Orchestra, Istvan Jaray, music director and conductor, to write a work for the opening of their 1996-1997 season. My intention was to write a lively work which highlighted the strengths of this musical organization while being accessible and appealing to their loyal audience members. In trying to tie something unique about Johnstown to the work, came up with the title, Iridium, which is a term that deals with the production of metal. During the writing of the work, my friend, colleague, and former teacher, Hugh Johnson passed away. Dr. Johnson, faculty emeritus at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, was a terrific musician who was always enthusiastic about orchestral music! It is this enthusiasm and energy that have tried to capture in this new work, which is dedicated to Dr. Johnson's memory. Finally, would like to thank Maestro Jaray and Tony Blackner for their interest in my work. With Iridium comes my best wishes to Maestro Jaray and the orchestra for a fantastic new season of music-making. -Jack Stamp (August, 1996). $55.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

This no-nonsense guide is designed to help them get everything they can out of their student teaching experience. The authors of this book represent over 100 years of active involvement in music education. Each has taught in public schools and now serves in important music education positions at major universities across the United States. Their experience and hands-on work has provided them with great knowledge, insight, and vision of the student teaching experience—knowledge they are eager to share. The result is informative, practical, thought provoking, and even entertaining. Each chapter includes an overview of the areas of immersion young music educators will face in their new profession, including: How to best develop observation skills and glean helpful techniques How to develop your own educational vision and ethics How to prepare for the overload that many feel of the never-ending litany of daily teaching and administrative tasks you must negotiate Throughout the book, the authors remind us that teaching music through performance is an important daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goal. The Teaching Music through Performance series has had a profound impact on all aspects of the wind band community. With the creation of this affordable guide, funded in part with revenue set aside by the originators of the Teaching Music through Performance series, the future of the profession—with your participation—remains truly bright. As Larry Blocher states in the book, IT ALL STARTS WITH YOU! Dennis Fisher is Conductor of the Symphonic Band, Associate Director of Wind Studies, and Professor of Music in Conducting and Ensembles at the University of North Texas. Lissa Fleming May is Associate Dean for Instruction and Professor of Music Education at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Erik Johnson is Associate Professor of Music Education at Colorado State University, where he teaches undergraduate and graudate courses in music education and conducts the 130-member CSU Concert Band. $15.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks
