English. The title of this work is taken from a poem of the same name by the Polish poet, Wislawa Szymborska (winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1996) and considers the importance of revolutions, tyrannicides and political conspiracies in relation to that of skimming shadows, fluttering white butterflies and windblown clouds. No Title Required has two movements. The first is fast and virtuosic, the second, lyrical and colouristic. Both have the same formal pattern - a series of variations where one aspect of each section provides the ‘theme’ for the following variation. Whereas the first movement juxtaposes blocks of material to create a disjunct, segmentedstructure, the second weaves lines together to create a single, flexible texture (disrupted towards the end by ‘reminiscences’ of the work’s opening). No Title Required was commissioned by Double Image (to whom the work is dedicated) and has received several performances worldwide. The work was chosen to represent Australia in the ISCM World Music Days, Hong Kong in. $41.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

The piece incorporates a whirlwind of mixed meters to?depict this phenomenon. Arcari showcases his fresh, exciting, and well-scored compositional style in this piece. Solar Flare makes for? an excellent concert opener. A solar flare is a huge explosion on the sun that appears as a sudden increase in brightness or flash. Sometimes these explosions push large amounts of energy and even parts of the sun flying out into space. These events can be so powerful that they cause events on Earth such as auroras, as well as more serious issues like disrupting radio and electronic instruments. To our naked eye, these dangerous explosions are beautiful and quiet. The celestial is a fascinating place, hopefully captured in some small part by this work. About the Work: Solar Flare began as a piece with two goals: to write a space piece in 7/8 and to write a teaching 7/8 space piece. The piece uses a 2-2-3 pattern, so using this in pre-performance warm-ups might be beneficial. The piece is loosely based on a minor second descending to a minor third. This motif is used at the onset of the piece in the mallet percussion and then again in the woodwinds. The melody presents itself at m. 19 in the clarinets. This melodic material is varied and traded throughout the instrument groups until m.67. Measures 6972 should be treated as a transitional fanfare to the new material at m. 73. Measures 99115 to the end of the piece feature a style similar to the beginning that helps to transition to m. 115, which is the climax of the work. An ostinato pattern (2-2-3) is presented with fragments of the melody appearing in the alto voices. This momentum culminates in a large, abrasive area at m. 125 where the suspension-resolution in the brass and horn melodic fragment need to be the focus. This momentum continuously grows until the last note where we resolve finally. Care should be taken that the ^ accent on the final note is one meant to be played heavy, and not short. Chamber Music Bassoon, Piano SKU: PR.114423350 Composed by Amanda Harberg. Set of Score and Parts. 32+12 pages. Duration 16 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-42335. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114423350). ISBN 9781491135112. UPC: 680160686339. This stunning addition to the bassoon repertory features dramatic outer movements framing a slow and plaintive aria. Harberg’s program notes put the drama and its crying-out high notes in the context of writing in 2021: “The composition was deeply influenced by disruptive forces unfolding around us. While this unrest made writing difficult at times and brought me to uncomfortable places within myself, the process was also full of unexpected discoveries and musical solutions I never would have found in less troubled times.â€. Connections are all around us. I first met bassoonist Adrian Morejon while writing my Suite for Wind Quintet for the Dorian Wind Quintet in 2017. He and I quickly became fast friends and decided to collaborate on a new piece. Over the next two years, Adrian assembled a phenomenal group of 28 bassoonists from around the world to be co-commissioners. Adrian and I premiered the resulting sonata at the International Double Reed Society’s 2021 Virtual Symposium. The SONATA was composed between January and June 2021. In composing it, my goal was to offer bassoonists a substantial work that would show off the instrument’s remarkable strengths including its athletic agility, gorgeous singing qualities, and enormous range. While I generally avoid being programmatic, this composition was deeply influenced by the disruptive forces unfolding around us. While this unrest made writing difficult at times and often brought me to uncomfortable places within myself, the process was also full of unexpected discoveries and musical solutions I never would have found in less troubled times.I am deeply grateful to Adrian for our collaboration, and to everyone in the consortium for making the SONATA possible. $24.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

It involves the grouping of ideas to make the meaning of the words clear to the listener. The words are grouped into sentences, and the sentences are then grouped into paragraphs. The same is true when interpreting a piece of music. Good phrasing requires a musician to interpret the notes he plays, and determine which notes need to be grouped together to form a complete musical idea. Each song in Jazz Phrasing for Trombone is designed to train your ear to hear the logical grouping of phrases through the use of sequence and thematic development. While the art of good phrasing involves the interpretation of note groupings and their relationships, it also involves deciding where you're going to take a breath. Read the following sentences aloud to compare examples of good and bad phrasing. Good phrasing, spoken in one continuous breath: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to introduce the senior class president. Bad phrasing, spoken with extra breaths, disrupting the flow and grouping of the words: Ladies and gentlemen, it gives (breath) me great pleasure to introduce the senior class (breath) president. The difference between these two sentences is very similar to the difference between a professional musician's phrasing and a student's phrasing. Both may be playing the correct notes with the correct rhythm, but the professional musician knows how to group the notes in a smooth, flowing fashion, while the student takes breaths at random, not even aware that he's disrupting the phrasing. Jazz Phrasing for Trombone has been carefully designed to help you learn to phrase like a professional player. These are pieces that will be fun for all musicians who love melodic writing with good thematic development.. $24.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Serra's sculptures overwhelm the observer with their massive dimensions and sharply defined form. At the same time, they appear as if they might, with the slightest disturbance, collapse. As Serra's work disrupts the observer's sense of physical balance, After Serra similarly intends to undermine the listener's sense of temporal stability. My composition attempts to thwart expectations of formal and gestural continuity, juxtaposing a volatile and restless surface with steadily unfolding underlying processes. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.927200). ISBN 9790007302030. English. A short and accessible work that nevertheless captures an entire cosmos of ideas and elements of contemporary vocal music! The internationally renowned Swedish composer and conductor Karin Rehnqvist undertook some research before beginning work on her composition Universe. Wanting to know how many stars and galaxies are in our universe, she came across estimates by renowned astronomers: 200 billion trillion stars and 2 trillion galaxies. Such dizzying numbers are simply beyond our human comprehension. Universe begins with a swelling opening chord, which directs our gaze into the sky. Then Rehnqvist portrays this dizzy sense of awe by means of tumbling glissandi, rhythmic off-beats that disrupt the meter, secondary clusters stacked on top of each other, and babbling speech. Eschewing major/minor tonality, she instead makes use of pentatonic series and different tonal centers. This work is ideal for ambitious amateur choirs, as the pentatonic series are easy to memorize while the skillful voice leading makes it easy to correctly pitch the clusters. A great piece for anyone wanting an accessible and realizable introduction to contemporary vocal music and advanced performance techniques! For budding astronomers, Karin Rehnqvist recommends the following website:https://theconversation.com/how-many-stars-are-there-in-space-165370 $3.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

| 36 Celebrated Studies for the Cornet Carl Fischer
Chamber Music Cornet SKU: CF.O88X Composed by Narcisse Bousquet. Edited b...(+)
Chamber Music Cornet SKU: CF.O88X Composed by Narcisse Bousquet. Edited by Joey Tartell Edwin Franko Goldman. SWS. Softcover. With Standard notation. 44 pages. Carl Fischer Music #O88X. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.O88X). ISBN 9781491153406. UPC: 680160910908. 9 X 12 inches. These studies are a staple of the advanced trumpet method repertoire. Each etude is an exploration of a wide variety of registers, articulations and tonalities. While going through these 36 etudes the trumpeter will develop an even sound in all registers while tackling the musical and melodic challenges that lie within. IntroductionTips on Musical PracticeStarting a new study can be overwhelming. Using Etude No. 1, here’s an example of how to approach working on these etudes with both musicality and technique in mind.Bousquet’s first study can be broken down into three large musical sections:Section 1: from the beginning to the downbeat of m. 26.Section 2: from the upbeat of 2 in m. 26 to the downbeat of m. 51.Section 3: from the downbeat of m. 51 to the end. Each one of those sections can be broken down into two smaller sections:Section 1a: from the beginning to the downbeat of m. 16.Section 1b: from the downbeat of m. 16 to the downbeat of m. 26.Section 2a: from the upbeat of 2 in m. 26 to the end of m. 35.Section 2b: from m. 36 to the downbeat of m. 51.Section 3a: from the downbeat of m. 51 to the downbeat of m. 59.Section 3b: from the downbeat of m. 59 to the end.To get started playing, choose a slow tempo that allows you to play Section 1 all the way through without stopping. If that is problematic, just play through 1a.Remember to focus on the music. Section 1a is light, moving in four-measure phrases to the ninth measure, where it cadences in G. From there, retain the lightness through the arpeggiation that concludes with the trill that brings an arrival point at Section 1b. Here the style changes completely, alternating two measures of fluid, connected sixteenth notes with two measures of scalar staccato sixteenths before finally cadencing on the downbeat of m. 26.Section 2 begins with a melodic line of eighth notes, punctuated by sixteenths in the third full measure before returning to the original line for only a measure before driving forward with a flourish to finish Section 2a. Section 2b starts back in C with four-measure phrases in which the line moves up for two measures, then down for two measures, ending in G. The last seven measures of Section 2 stay light as they work their way back to C.Section 3 is very exciting, starting with a fiery cornet solo-like passage in 3a. 3b brings the piece to a dramatic conclusion outlining C major for the first four measures before arpeggiating C major and G dominant for two measures, finally finishing with the C-major scale. The next step is to isolate any of the parts that proved troublesome. Examples could include missed notes or figuring out where to breathe. Once you have practiced the troublesome sections in isolation, play the section all the way through without stopping again. Even if there are still problems, you are now practicing in a way that is preparing you to perform musically. The next day, play through Section 1 again, at a tempo that allows you to do this without stopping. Now go on to Section 2, and follow the same three steps:Play all the way through, at a tempo that allows you to do so without stopping,Isolate and practice the troublesome passages, thenPlay all the way through, at a tempo that allows you to do so without stopping. Now play from the beginning to the end of Section 2.The next day, play Section 1. Now play Section 2. Then play Section 3 and apply the same three steps outlined above. Now play the whole study. At this point you have spent time on each section, making musical decisions and correcting mistakes. Increase the tempo as you gain confidence and control of the material. As you work towards performing the entire study as a piece of music, record yourself playing the entire study as a performance each day. Review the recordings to reveal what still needs work. Be honest with yourself! When you are happy with the recording of your performance, it’s time to move on to the next study.About the Goldman PrefaceThese studies will be an excellent practice, especially for the lower register of the Cornet, which is somewhat neglected in other instruction books. It is recommended that the pupil should practice one of this series of Studies now and then to repose his lips, and acquire facility in difficult fingering.— Edwin Franko GoldmanIn his original preface, Edwin Franko Goldman is absolutely correct that these studies are excellent practice and will help with the dexterity demanded of today’s player. Although the low register is certainly explored throughout the book, it does not appear to be the focus of these studies. There are many books available now that concentrate on the low register. The suggested fingerings have been removed. Using alternate fingerings was more common to cornet players to aid in the fluidity of a passage. This practice is not nearly as common today, especially with trumpet players, as the difference in timbre caused by the alternate fingerings is disruptive to the musical line. Published for cornet, as it was the solo instrument of choice in the 1920s, these etudes are just as useful to today’s trumpet player. When playing these studies on trumpet, the performer should strive for a fluid line while maintaining a full and clear sound. Because of the musicianship and technique demanded, this book remains as useful today as it has ever been.— Joey TartellAbout Narcisse Bousquet and the 36 EtudesNarcisse Bousquet (c. 1800–1869) was French by birth, active as a composer, editor and arranger in both France and England in the early nineteenth century. Bousquet was respected as an accomplished performer of the French flageolet, a high-pitched woodwind instrument much like a recorder, although later outfitted with the Boehm key system like the modern flute. Although obsolete in modern times, the instrument once enjoyed great popularity with a variety of composers and performers, both amateur and professional. Purcell and Handel composed for the instrument, and Berlioz was purportedly an accomplished amateur performer of the flageolet. The Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson, likewise, was a proficient performer of the instrument and composed a number of pieces for it.Little is known today of Bousquet’s life. He composed a large variety of music, including works specifically for the flageolet, which were widely appreciated in their day. The 36 Etudes for flageolet are undoubtedly the most well known of his works. Published in 1851, the Etudes explore a variety of techniques, such as scales, arpeggios, ornamentation, breath control and expressive playing, and their technically demanding writing confirms Bousquet’s prowess as a flageolet performer. However, the date of the arrangement of the etudes for cornet and their arranger remain speculative. Edwin Franko Goldman is credited as the arranger of the 1890 publication by Carl Fischer, although Goldman would have been only twelve years old at the time; his work on these pieces surely came at a later time. Bousquet himself may have arranged these pieces for cornet at the request of an accomplished cornet player at some point after their publication. $16.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Opera Vocal Soloists, SATB Chorus, Orchestra SKU: PR.411411640 An Oper...(+)
Opera Vocal Soloists, SATB Chorus, Orchestra SKU: PR.411411640 An Opera in Two Acts. Composed by Ricky Ian Gordon. Vocal score. Duration 2 minutes, 30 seconds. Theodore Presser Company #411-41164. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.411411640). ISBN 9781491137642. UPC: 680160691098. The Garden of the Finzi-Continis novel by Giorgio Bassani. Based on Bassani’s 1962 novel, THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS dramatizes the true story of a prosperous Jewish family’s disruptions and consequences from state-mandated antisemitism in Italy during World War II. Gordon describes the opera as “romantic, sun-drenched, and cataclysmic, all at the same time.” This dramatically topical and personal grand opera premiered at New York City Opera and National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene to rave reviews in 2022. Chris Ruel wrote in OperaWire, “I have chosen Ricky Ian Gordon and Michael Korie’s THE GARDEN OF THE FINZI-CONTINIS as my favorite opera of 2022.”. At one point, in 2008, I was walking down 72nd Street, and I passed the video store, (this is when there were video stores) and I thought to myself, I wonder if Kevin (my partner) has ever seen The Garden of the Finzi-Continis? which was always one of my favorite movies. My reaction when we watched it that night was unlike any other time I had seen it. I was wrenched, sobbing, inconsolable. My heart felt like the autumn leaves we see blowing through the garden at the end of the movie. It seemed immediately that this had to be my next opera. I called Michael Korie, and we both bought the Bassani novel and read it. We settled on it. It felt clear that we both had a collective story to tell through it.Because this opera is so close to both of our hearts, it is dedicated to our fathers. It is not only that The Garden of the Finzi-Continis is a Holocaust story that makes it so resonant for me, though obviously this is no small matter, but the tragedy of people trying to live their lives, or actually living them, their petty disappointments, their heartbreaks, against the backdrop of total catastrophe… that makes it so moving. They cannot possibly imagine what will befall them, but we know… and this makes their every move fascinating and devastating… like watching moths under a glass. It is romantic, sun-drenched and cataclysmic, all at the same time. This is why I had to write it. $125.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Nox, the third movement from Illuminare, offers your singers a thrilling and satisfying vocal experience from start to finish. Sensing an ominous shadow on the horizon, the choir sings the traditional Kyrie text (Lord have mercy). Then, a percussive B-minor blast of fury disrupts the world as the text turns to “Nox et tenebrae†(night and darkness). Accented rhythms and mixed meter further create chaos, confusion, and despair. With its dynamic range and rhythmic intensity, Nox is a great contrast piece for concerts or festivals. Scored for piano and percussion, with optional strings or chamber orchestra accompaniments. Critics responded warmly to its colour, vitality, and strong individuality. The same qualities are found in Five Distressed Surfaces, a collection of fascinating character studies that also reflect the composer's skills as a pianist and improvisor. Though not intended to be played as a suite, the individual pieces are linked by a concern with visual, plastic and even tactile sources of inspiration, and by a quietly disruptive humour. ... Morgan Hayes' piano works, Flaking Yellow Stucco and Le Lardon, were elegantly explosive in [Stephen] Gutman's performances.

| The Listening Choral SSATB Hinshaw Music Inc.
SSATB Choral (SSATB a cappella) SKU: HL.1437384 Composed by Cheryl Engelh...(+)
SSATB Choral (SSATB a cappella) SKU: HL.1437384 Composed by Cheryl Engelhardt. Hinshaw Music. Octavo. Hinshaw Music #HMC2726. Published by Hinshaw Music (HL.1437384). UPC: 196288204497. “The Listening,” written by Grammy-nominated composer Cheryl B. Engelhardt in December 2017 for VOICES 21C under the artistic direction of André de Quadros, draws its inspiration from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s impactful 1967 speech, “Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.” This dynamic, emotion-filled piece expresses King's call to end societal silence. The rhythmic elements in the piece are derived from the poetic nature of King's speech. The inclusion of a children's choir, inspired by the Parkland school shooting and subsequent protests, symbolizes the disruption of childhood peace by violence. Notably, the virtual collaboration, featuring Donzaleigh Abernathy, Dr. King's goddaughter, emphasizes the song's contemporary relevance in addressing social issues, and was featured in PEOPLE. Premiered live at the Massachusetts Music Educators Conference in 2018 by VOICES 21C, and digitally released during Black History month in 2021, “The Listening” stands as a profound anthem for breaking silence and to foster positive change. $3.50 - See more - Buy online

Score and Parts Concert Band (Score & Parts) - Grade 4 SKU: HL.4008967 Concert Band, Grade 4 9:30 Score and Parts. Composed by Hermann Pallhuber. Symphonic Dimensions. Concert, Concert Band. Softcover. Duration 570 seconds. Hal Leonard #SDP267-24-02. Published by Hal Leonard (HL.4008967). UPC: 196288282167. “Rising into a New Era” was commissioned by the city of Landeck in 2023 to commemorate its 100th anniversary since being declared a city. The composition serves as the introductory part of a trilogy, encapsulating the years from 1923 to 1956, depicting Landeck's transformation from a market town to a city. The outset of the piece is characterized by a reserved and hushed atmosphere, reflecting the initial uncertainty during a period of economic challenges. The optimistic anticipation of a new beginning is only echoed by the sound of the city's new bells. The central motif, threading throughout the entire composition, is derived from the name of the city: LAnDECk (A-D-E-C). This motif unfolds at the onset within the resonance of the city's bells, gradually evolving into the main theme through the gentle tones of the clarinets. Following the initial years of the burgeoning city, where a positive societal shift and newfound security are symbolized by a second musical theme, the sudden eruption of the Second World War disrupts this progress. A mournful melody, borrowed from the cheerful second theme of the piece, speaks of sorrow, nostalgia, yet also solace and hope for peace and freedom. A “Vivace furioso” captures the uncertainties and intense turbulence of the war. These tumultuous emotions gradually settle, culminating after a delicate oboe and saxophone solo into the now powerful main theme presented in the form of a majestic chorale. A “Vivace con bravura” brings the composition to a radiant conclusion, signifying a strengthened future for the city of Landeck. $200.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
