Score and Parts Concert Band; Symphonic Band (Score & Parts) SKU: HL.50606653 For Symphonic Band Score and Parts. Composed by Laszlo Dubrovay. EMB. Classical, Festival. Softcover. 328 pages. Duration 680 seconds. Editio Musica Budapest #Z15176SET. Published by Editio Musica Budapest (HL.50606653). ISBN 9781705199909. UPC: 196288154235. This work of festive atmosphere was written in 2000 for symphonic band, then the composer arranged it for symphony orchestra. In this piece, László Dubrovay (*1943) parts with his special, hallmark concert band effects; rather, lively vibrations enriched with colliding seconds and distant overtones are brought to the foreground. The special sound is coloured by ornamental trills, appearingeven in batches, and vibrating collisions in the high registers. The performance is rendered even more unique by the outer trumpets on both sides of the space. The trumpets and the flugelhorns can be divided into ten parts altogether, thus, the piece can be played by one ensemble or several bands together, as it is usual at the conclusion of large-scale festivals. This composition may be a great choice for festive concerts, since it is a solemn, innovative, and - by virtue of the free arrangement of the performing space- special work at the same time. $149.95 - See more - Buy online

This work is among the subtropical plants series of composer Xiaogang Yes wroks, in which include Enchanted Bamboo, Hibiscus, Datura, December Chrysanthemum, Scent of Green Mango, etc. These works show the Southern-originated musicians sensitivity and attention to the natural environment in a country of the Far East. Gardenia indistinctly means eternal joy in Chinese context. It isborn in a moist natural environment with a kind of faintly fragrant scent; its white color is of high aesthetic value to Asians. Andit is usually used as food and medicine in South Asia. The gardenia honey is with mild sweet and faint sweet. The Gardenia is also acity flower of Yueyang City, which is a quiet and distant small city located in Hunan Province, South of China. When composing this work, the composer adopted folk operas and folk songs in the area of Yueyuang, showing his yearning and a sense of loss to the beautiful scenery in South China. $66.00 - See more - Buy online

ISBN 9790570487561. 21 x 30 cm inches. I have an obsession with the poetry of William Carlos Williams (1883-1963). In the spring of 2016, I was re-reading his Collected Works and was struck by a line in his poem The Well Disciplined Bargeman. The bargeman is carefully rowing over the murky water and then under the Presence. Whatever there is else is moving. Having plucked my title from WCW's poem, I have attempted to capture that same sensation of attention being given to what is not in the foreground. The pitch material is fairly simple: steps going down. The goal is for the listener (and especially the performers) to notice what cannot be notated. This work can also be performed with an optional drone on concert E-flat. The work was premiered by Jeff Anderle, Kevin Tang, Sophie Huet and Dan Ferreira at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music on October 16, 2017 at the concert Centennial Concert: Guitar & Clarinet Kyle Hovatter San Francisco, Oct 2019. $19.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

String quartet String Quartet SKU: PR.16400272S Cassatt. Composed ...(+)
String quartet String Quartet SKU: PR.16400272S Cassatt. Composed by Dan Welcher. Premiere: Cassatt Quartet, Northeastern Illinois University, Chicago, IL. Contemporary. Full score. With Standard notation. Composed 2007. WRT11142. 52 pages. Duration 24 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #164-00272S. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.16400272S). UPC: 680160588442. 8.5 x 11 inches. My third quartet is laid out in a three-movement structure, with each movement based on an early, middle, and late work of the great American impressionist painter Mary Cassatt. Although the movements are separate, with full-stop endings, the music is connected by a common scale-form, derived from the name MARY CASSATT, and by a recurring theme that introduces all three movements. I see this theme as Mary's Theme, a personality that stays intact while undergoing gradual change. I The Bacchante (1876) [Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania] The painting shows a young girl of Italian or Spanish origin, playing a small pair of cymbals. Since Cassatt was trying very hard to fit in at the French Academy at the time, she painted a lot of these subjects, which were considered typical and universal. The style of the painting doesn't yet show Cassatt's originality, except perhaps for certain details in the face. Accordingly the music for this movement is Spanish/Italian, in a similar period-style but using the musical signature described above. The music begins with Mary's Theme, ruminative and slow, then abruptly changes to an alla Spagnola-type fast 3/4 - 6/8 meter. It evokes the Spanish-influenced music of Ravel and Falla. Midway through, there's an accompanied recitative for the viola, which figures large in this particular movement, then back to a truncated recapitulation of the fast music. The overall feeling is of a well-made, rather conventional movement in a contemporary Spanish/Italian style. Cassatt's painting, too, is rather conventional. II At the Opera (1880) [Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts] This painting is one of Cassatt's most well known works, and it hangs in the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. The painting shows a woman alone in a box at the opera house, completely dressed (including gloves) and looking through opera glasses at someone or something that is NOT on the stage. Across the auditorium from her, but exactly at eye level, is a gentleman with opera glasses intently watching her - though it is not him that she's looking at. It's an intriguing picture. This movement is far less conventional than the first movement, as the painting is far less conventional. The music begins with a rapid, Shostakovich-type mini-overture lasting less than a minute, based on Mary's Theme. My conjecture is that the woman in the painting has arrived late to the opera, busily stumbling into her box. What happens next is a kind of collage, a kind of surrealistic overlaying of two different elements: the foreground music, at first is a direct quotation of Soldier's Chorus from Gounod's FAUST (an opera Cassatt would certainly have heard in the brand-new Paris Opera House at that time), played by Violin II, Viola, and Cello. This music is played sul ponticello in the melody and col legno in the marching accompaniment. On top of this, the first violin hovers at first on a high harmonic, then descends into a slow melody, completely separate from the Gounod. It's as if the woman in the painting is hearing the opera onstage but is not really interested in it. Then the cello joins the first violin in a kind of love-duet (just the two of them, at first). This music isn't at all Gounod-derived; it's entirely from the same scale patterns as the first movement and derives from Mary's Theme and its scale. The music stays in a kind of dichotomy feeling, usually three-against-one, until the end of the movement, when another Gounod melody, Valentin's aria Avant de quitter ce lieux reappears in a kind of coda for all four players. It ends atmospherically and emotionally disconnected, however. The overall feeling is a kind of schizophrenic, opera-inspired dream. III Young Woman in Green, Outdoors in the Sun (1909) [Worcester Art Museum, Massachusetts] The painting, one of Cassatt's last, is very simple: just a figure, looking sideways out of the picture. The colors are pastel and yet bold - and the woman is likewise very self-assured and not in the least demure. It is eight minutes long, and is all about melody - three melodies, to be exact (Young Woman, Green, and Sunlight). No angst, no choppy rhythms, just ever-unfolding melody and lush harmonies. I quote one other French composer here, too: Debussy's song Green, from Ariettes Oubliees. 1909 would have been Debussy's heyday in Paris, and it makes perfect sense musically as well as visually to do this. Mary Cassatt lived her last several years in near-total blindness, and as she lost visual acuity, her work became less sharply defined - something akin to late water lilies of Monet, who suffered similar vision loss. My idea of making this movement entirely melodic was compounded by having each of the three melodies appear twice, once in a pure form, and the second time in a more diffuse setting. This makes an interesting two ways form: A-B-C-A1-B1-C1. String Quartet No.3 (Cassatt) is dedicated, with great affection and respect, to the Cassatt String Quartet, whose members have dedicated themselves in large measure to the furthering of the contemporary repertoire for quartet. $38.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

English. Robert Saxton 's Hortus Musicae , Book 1 was commissioned by Ian Richie for the 2013 City of London Festival with funds provided by the John S. Cohen Foundation. The first performance was given by Clare Hammond on June 24th 2013 at the church of St Mary Le Bow. The title, less 'literal' in Latin than in the vernacular, refers to the idea of an allegorical/metaphysical garden (reference to a 'real', or existing, garden might be implied by Hortus Musicus) with various facets. The titles of the individual pieces/movements, with their respective garden image, are as follows: 1) Hortus Somniorum: a fleeting vision of a 'magical' garden 2) Hortus Temporis: a reflection of/on the floralclock described by Andrew Marvell (1621-1678) in his [metaphysical] poem The Garden: How well the skilful gardener drew Of flowers and herbs this dial new Where from above the milder sun Does through a fragrant zodiac run; And, as it works, the industrious bee Computes its time as well as we. How could such sweet and wholesome hours Be reckoned but with herbs and flowers! 3) Hortus Cantus: A garden in which nature 'sings' (praises), in the manner of a 'chorale prelude' and ending with the cantus firmus transformed into bells. 4) Hortus Infinitatis: A meditative/formal garden representing Time suspended, in the form of a palindromic prolation canon combined with a harmonic ground (chaconne). 5) Saltatio Hortensis: A (summer) garden of dancing, celebratory nature. Its essence (and that of the entire cycle, both metaphorically and structurally/formally) is summed up in words spoken by Miranda in WH Auden's 1944 Tempest [Shakespeare]-inspired poem The Sea And The Mirror; So, to remember our changing garden, we Are linked as children in a circle dancing. An introduction quotes snippets of the tune, followed by stanza one for unison congregation with the brass echoing imitatively. The texture changes in stanza two as the French horn takes the foreground in the accompaniment, with the organ supporting the congregation. The final stanza has the trumpets leaping in baroque-like fanfares at first, then the imitative echoes return. Dignified but joyful, this majestic setting will add to your Easter service.

Published by Forton Music (FT.FM634). ISBN 9790570485338. For the opening bar, the performers are to begin the individual parts offstage, walking to their designated posi ons while playing the percussive of textural effects. Players may reach their posi ons freely in their own me but it is necessary to reach their places no later than bar 12. The func ons of the layers of material in this piece are o en changing roles slowly, allowing something that was a background texture to develop into something featured in the foreground, and vice versa. The transi ons between these roles are o en ambiguous, therefore keen a en on to dynamic balance is necessary to avoid the overall sound from becoming too clu ered or opaque. Balance voices mostly for transparency but allow material with notated accents, staccato marks or tenutos to stand out against the rest. Regarding rhythm, the exact tempo changes during accelerando or ritardando are not as important as a general feeling of surge and release. It is suggested that the 7/8 signature be conducted as one pulse for each bar, except where it is crucial to play rhythms precisely, for example at places of orchestrated crescendo in 8th notes (e.g. bar 136). This is in the interest of the feeling of me flowing subjec vely, in streams and ripples as in a dream. $56.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

The text is from Lyrisches Intermezzo of 1823 by Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) and tells of melody’s power to transport lovers to the most beautiful night garden, with bright and fragrant flowers, gazelles, a murmuring stream, and a palm tree, under which they can dream. It is well known in the setting by Mendelssohn, written in 1834.
2. Seit Ich Ihn Gesehen (Since I First Saw Him)
The text is from Adelbert von Chamisso’s set of poems Frauen-Liebe und Leben, most famously set by Schumann in 1840. A young girl cries that she has been blinded by the vision of a gentleman who has unknowingly lifted her from darkness. Overwhelmed by the new emotions of adoration and infatuation, she retreats into isolation.
This new edition supersedes the Nova Music publication of 1982 (NM249) and the European Archive edition (EMA119), originally edited by Georgina Dobrée, both now out of print. This edition is fully re-edited and includes the option of a second clarinet in place of the voice.

Particles was commissioned by the 2015 Milano EXPO for the musicians of the Divertimento Ensemble. The composer was one of 50 finalists selected after an International Competition by Expo 2015’s Italian Pavilion. The competition was organised by Divertimento Ensemble, in collaboration with the City of Milano, the Region of Lombardia, MITO SettembreMusica and Sentieri selvaggi and all composers had to create compositions inspired by the theme 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'. The composer decided to concentrate on exploring the notion of “Particles” (the smallest basic unitsof matter and energy), as the means of creating the main formal profile of this composition. This notion extends to all formal devises (texture, figure and gesture). To use an analogy, listening to this composition should feel like looking at a mosaic from an extremely short distance, one’s eyes almost touching the intrinsic small tiles that create the larger picture. From this alternative perspective, one begins to observe completely different patterns, which went unperceived as part of the greater picture, just as a closer look at a mosaic might reveal intricate bands of colour that would have been unnoticed from a greater distance. When this happens one can really appreciate the tiny details and nuances of the composition. Seen from afar, these “particles” create different textures than they do from a closer distance or through a microscope exploration, different matters and different qualities of energy. This composition brings into foreground microscopic “pictures” of the particles that constitute the totality of the work, while simultaneously and unavoidably giving, in its totality, a larger formal picture over the course of time. Whilst the music is constructed into noticeably different blocks of sound, each segment nevertheless originates from the same source, from the same particle. $35.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Clarinet and piano SKU: P2.30086 Composed by Daniel Nelson. Solo music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.30086). In the beginning of January, 2000 I completed a large-scale work for clarinet and orchestra. Upon its completion, I felt somewhat exhausted by the flashy and virtuoso style of writing which tends to typify the solo parts of concerti. This time... I decided to forfeit any pyrotechnical exhibitions by the soloist in favor of incorporating the instrument into the larger fabric of the orchestra. Concurrent with starting to work on this new piece, I was engaged in an altogether different project involving, among others, a Swedish deejay whose field of expertise is popular, modern dance-music.... During numerous evenings of CD listening to this genre of music, I was drawn to the way that rhythmically contrasting layers of music were constantly alternating between background and foreground. The resulting effect was of a continuously changing 'groove-pattern' even though the 'beat' of the music remained constant. I used this style of writing mainly in the fast, second section of the piece, which I felt gave it a distinct technotronic flavor. The mood of the opening movement is, however, undeniably romantic: thus the title of the piece, Romantatronic. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Lahara - which literally means 'wave' - is a term used in Indian music to describe a repeating melodic phrase that accompanies table and pakhawaj solo. In such a traditional context the lahara would be played by a melodic instrument such as the sarangi, functioning as a background against which the flourishing virtuosity of the soloist could evolve. In my piece this function is also present in the form of a long line stated three times fully in the Thai gongs, however there is no virtuosic soloist. Instead, the musical evolution (if it is that) takes the form of a resonant ceremony enacted on bell plates and steel pans, situated not only on-stage but in four locations around the audience. If you want to look for it, the idea of waves can also be seen in other aspects of the piece: the slow wave of the gradual progression of players from the back of the hall to the front, which defines the form of the piece; the waves of tam-tam crescendi at the end of each statement of the lahara; maybe even in the way that the foreground melodic figurations progressively increase in density over the course of the piece until they completely dominate our perception, before suddenly disappearing… And on a more concrete note every sound is, after all, a wave. Flute, Violin and Cello SKU: BT.MUSM570366439 Composed by Evis Sammoutis. Classical. Score Only. 15 pages. University of York Music Press #MUSM570366439. Published by University of York Music Press (BT.MUSM570366439). English. Evis Sammoutis ' Particles (2015) for Flute (doubling Piccolo and Alto Flute), Violin and Cello. $14.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Cello - difficult SKU: HL.49016913 Composed by Olli Mustonen. This edition: Saddle stitching. Sheet music. Cello-Bibliothek (Cello Library). Classical. Score and part. Composed 2006. 40 pages. Duration 15'. Schott Music #CB193. Published by Schott Music (HL.49016913). ISBN 9790001147620. UPC: 884088262228. 9.0x12.0x0.127 inches. Mustonen belongs to the young generation of composing piano virtuosos. What is remarkable is that 'his instrument' is not placed in the foreground of his works. He rather composed pieces for strings, sonatas with piano accompaniment, orchestral works and even a piece for guitar referring to the history of his home country Finland. The cello sonata was premiered by Mustonen with the cellist Daniel Muller-Schott in Hamburg. No special emphasis is given to polyphonic coexistence; instead, the piano, playing chordally, acts as a real accompaniment most of the time. Cantilenas of the cello, tricky rhythms, and almost symphonic sound eruptions make the piece a sure-fire hit with the public. $40.00 - See more - Buy online

Picture yourself in the marvellous paradise of Italy’s Grado Lagoon. The magnificent display of colour and the salty scent of sea air combine with the fragrant tamarisk to create a unique atmosphere. Its solemn tones dissipate into the landscape of the lagoon.

$26.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks
