As the title suggests, this work is a partita: it consists of a number of variations on a chorale melody. The partita has been popular for centuries, especially when it comes to organ music. Henk van Belcum, who is active in the choir world, chose for his Partita Piccola the German hymn Wunderbarer König as a starting point. Partita Piccola consists of four variations and a choral setting. After a majestic opening fanfare, the second variation follows, based on a canon by Pachelbel. Händel’s Sarabande is the basis of the third variation. Next comes the chorale setting, after which the work ends festively with a dance that has been written in the form of a courante. PartitaPiccola is an asset for church services and for concert platforms.

Die Partita, seit Jahrhunderten ein fester und beliebter Bestandteil der Orgelliteratur, besteht aus einer Anzahl Variationen zu einer Choralmelodie. Für seine Partita Piccola nahm sich Henk van Belcum die deutsche Hymne Wunderbarer König als Vorlage. Die Partita Piccola besteht aus vier Variationen und einer Choralbearbeitung, die auch einzeln für den Gottesdienst verwendet werden kann.Auf eine würdevolle Eröffnungsfanfare folgen neben der Choralbearbeitung Variationen zu einem Kanon Pachelbels und zu Händels Sarabande. This excellent arrangement by Robert van Beringen is of the well-known German chorale Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme, taken from the oratorio Paulus (St. Paul) by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy (1809-1847). Although accredited to Mendelssohn it is thought the melody was in fact written by the pastor and poet Philipp Nicolai in 1599. Robert van Beringen’s arrangement perfectly captures the biblical story of St. Paul.

KYO-WA is a suite in three movements - Fanfare, Chorale and March, which composer Satoshi Yagisawa wrote individually year on year between 2008 and 2010 for a symphonic wind band. The word KYO in the title can mean resonance, but also togetherness, working together and competition. WA means peace and harmony. These ideas, together with a broad palette of emotions from sadness and fear to hope and rapture, have been woven into a piece that is typical of his new compositional style.

KYO-WA is een driedelige suite, bestaande uit Fanfare, Chorale en March. Satoshi Yagisawa componeerde dit werk voor symfonisch blaasorkest. Het woord KYO in de titel is een Japans homoniem. Het kan zowel resonantie als ook samen zijn, samenwerken en wedstrijd betekenen. WA betekent ‘harmonie‘ en ‘vrede‘. Dit idee en een breed scala aan gevoelens als treurnis, angst, hoop en ook verrukking verwerkte Yagiswa in een werk dat typisch is voor zijn nieuwe klankidioom.

Questi significati, come anche un’ampia gamma di sentimenti che vanno dal lutto, alla paura fino alla speranza sono stati trasposti in musica da Yagisawa in un brano dallo stile caratteristico del compositore nipponico.

This fantastic, stirring fanfare was written with the composer?s wish that the young musicians performing it would fly into the bright future like pheasants. The first part of the piece is a fanfare, which is suitable for opening ceremonies, and the second part is a lush chorale-like movement. Your band can perform both parts together or you could perform each one separately. This short opening work will start any concert in real style.

Aan dit werk liggen diverse muzikale inspiratiebronnen ten grondslag, zoals Broadwaymusicals, de Franse cancan en circusmarsen. Een Japans ritmepatroon komt in de eerste vier maten naar voren in het slagwerk. Het centrale deel bevatsolo's voor xylofoon en piccolo, die in de smaak zullen vallen bij uw publiek, zeker wanneer de solisten al improviserend een aantal technische staaltjes laten horen. Indien gewenst kan de instrumentatie worden gewijzigd. Na hetsologedeelte komt het eerste thema terug en volgt er een opbouw naar een opwindend slot, waar iedere speler yeah! roept. Die young pheasants - die 'jungen Fasane' im Titel sind die Maskottchen dieser Schule und zugleich ein Symbol fur die Schuler, die ihrer Zukunft entgegen fliegen. Die Fanfare, die sich wunderbar zur Eroffnung von Feierlichkeiten eignet, tritt hauptsachlich im ersten Teil dieses lebhaften musikalischen Portraits auf, der zweite Teil weist einen choralahnlichen Charakter auf. Die Teile dieser bemerkenswerten Komposition konnen einzeln oder zusammen aufgefuhrt werden.

Cette fanfare brillante est commande du Lycee de Kashihara dans la Prefecture de Nara au Japon. L'embleme du lycee est un jeune faisan. A l'ecriture de cette piece en deux mouvements, le compositeur a emis le vœu qu'a l'instar des faisans, les etudiants puissent voler vers un avenir radieux. Les deux parties peuvent s'enchainer ou, au contraire, etre interpretees separement. Bien qu'il s'agisse d'une œuvre courte, l'histoire y est decrite avec authenticite et legerete.

Scrivendo questo brano in due movimenti, il compositore ha espresso il desiderio che gli studenti possano volare come dei fagiani, verso un avvenire radioso. Le due parti possono essere eseguite insieme o interpretate separatamente. Benche la durata del brano sia abbastanza corta (circa due minuti), il tema e descritto con autenticita e leggerezza.

‘Spirit of Independence’ was commissioned by the Koninklijke Fanfare ‘Onafhankelijkheid’ (‘Independence’) from Wiekevorst (Belgium) on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. The piece depicts an enthusiastic amateur music club, practicing and making music together in an attentive and companionable atmosphere. The conductor has the good habit of trying to improve the sound of the fanfare by means of practicing chorales and hymns. Jan Van der Roost has used these facts in the dynamic concert piece ‘Spirit of Independence’: a chorale-like middle section is surrounded by music bubbling full of energy.

The late William Ferris composed this large, festive work specifically for the dawn of the new millenium and it received its premiere on January 2, 2000. It is based on the words of Psalm 118. A fanfare at the opening provides the sturdy musical material for the entire work. The choir first enters with the words, It is good to give thanks to the Lord. The opening section is full of wonderful sonority for choir, brass and organ. A repeat of the opening fanfare leads to the middle section, based on modal harmonies and reflective in spirit. The fanfare returns and opens the final section with triumphant words, This is the day that the Lord has made. The work ends in a very declamatory manner. This is a splendid new festival work that can be performed in any liturgical season.

In this work the composer portrays what he sees as the typical characteristics of youth, his young daughter being a source of inspiration. The music describes different emotions between parents and their child such as parental love, proudness andalso some tension.

The final movement starts with a fugue based on the first theme leading to the work’s climax where the chorale appears in majestic form.

In The Essence of Youth geeft de componist zijn visie op de kindertijd en de jeugd. Zijn eigen dochter vormde hierbij een belangrijke inspiratiebron. De opening staat met opgewekte ritmes, dynamische contrasten en maatsoortwisselingenvoor de spontaniteit van kinderen. Het eerste en tweede deel vertellen over de liefde, zorg en toewijding die horen bij een ouder-kindrelatie. Met dissonante harmonieën, maar ook met mooie melodieën weet de componist ditprachtig te verbeelden. Een fuga leidt ten slotte naar een prachtig koraal: de trotse ouders met hun kind verbeeldend.

Un’ouverture spettacolare nella quale contrasti dinamici e dai ritmi vivaci si susseguonocome a simboleggiare la straordinaria energia dei bambini. Il primo movimento, sulla scia dell’introduzione, anticipa una parte di solo che accompagna al secondo movimento, testimonianza dell’amore infinito dei genitori nei confronti dei figli. Unafuga basata sul tema iniziale contraddistingue il terzo movimento che conduce all’apoteosi finale.
