In Fantasia di Pasqua speelt het (koper)kwartet een cruciale rol. De componist raadt aan dit kwartet vanuit een galerij te laten spelen: de zo gecreëerde dubbelkorigheid past bij de enigszins renaissancistische stijl van hetwerk. De gebruikte koraalmelodieën worden alle - veelal dansrijk - door het kwartet uitgevoerd in diverse cadansen, die mede door de dubbelkorigheid resulteren in een levendige en afwisselende uitvoering. Het kwartet hoeft nietper se te bestaan uit twee trompetten (cornetten) en twee trombones, maar kan naar believen worden samengesteld.In seiner Fantasia di Pasqua verwendete Michael Bilkes traditionelle Osterlieder. Ein Quartett spielt hier eine entscheidende Rolle. Dies kann ein Blech- und/oder Holzbläserquartett sein, möglich ist auch ein Posaunenchor (der Komponist gibt hierzu Tipps). In Kirchen kommt die Fantasie besonders schön zur Geltung, wenn das Quartett von der Empore herab spielt. Der so kreierte Doppelchor-Effekt passt ausgezeichnet zum Renaissance ähnlichen Stil und verspricht eine sehr lebhafte und abwechslungsreiche Aufführung.Fantasia di Pasqua est une fantaisie basée sur des mélodies chorales pascales, issues de la Renaissance. Un quatuor (cuivres/bois) joue un rôle primordial dans le développement de la pièce. La musique pascale étant essentiellement destinée être interprétée dans un lieu de culte, le compositeur préconise de placer le quatuor sur le balcon. Lâ??effet de double ch?ur ainsi créé donne la pièce un caractère varié et divertissant.

This work for Tuba and Brass Band was commissioned by and written for internationally renowned tuba soloist Steve Sykes. The Tuba plays four notes (F, Bb, G, C) during the opening. All the themes and much of the harmonic structure are based on these fours notes and their permutations. The soloist receives ample opportunity to showcase his or her technical prowess and expressive capabilities. Fantasia for Tuba also provides plenty of interaction between the soloist and brass band.In de loop der eeuwen is schitterende kerstmuziek geschreven. Bach's Fantasia & Fugue in C minor, BWV 537 is a work for Organ written around the year 1723 while the composer was in residence in Weimar.Bach composed many of his greatest organ works during this period.The music of the Fantasia is lush and ornate. The Fugue is an amazing 130 bars in length.This work was transcribed for orchestra in 1921 by Edward Elgar who mourned after the death of his wife. He was to orchestrate the Fugue and Richard Strauss agreed to do the Fantasia, however after two years Elgar completed the entire work as Strauss never held up his part of the bargain.Mr. Sauer has subtly added phrasings, breaths and articulations to the original score to aid in the performance for Trombone choir.The music is about eight minutes in length and is appropriate for advanced performers.

DUNHUANG FANTASIA is a fascinating 12-minute drama inspired by art from grottoes in the ancient town of Dunhuang in western China. These frescoes preserve images of music and dance scenes, including the postures and attitudes of performers, and of the musical instruments used. Zhou Long’s music begins with a mysterious introduction driven by drum-like textures, followed by a series of episodes, enhanced by captions of the artwork inspiring each section and evocations of the ancient musical instruments.Commissioned and with fingering by Zou Xiang, Dunhuang Fantasia was composed in the fall of 2017. The music was inspired by the art of the Mogaoku grottoes in the ancient town of Dunhuang in western China. The frescoes of the Dunhuang grottos preserve a number of music and dance performance scenes, including images of the postures and attitudes of performers, and of a number of musical instrument types are used.The most popular form of music indigenous to this region is the huar, a folk-song type current among a number of nationalities. The huar is actually a kind of mountain song. Along with huar, Dunhuang pipa qupu (Dunhuang pipa notation) is also an inspiration for elements in this music.The music begins in adagio as a mysterious introduction. The drum-like rhythm patterns beating in the lowest region of the piano, with a muted-string sonority, creates an expanded space to enhance the echoes from the grottos. This is soon followed by the first main section, Cup of Happiness, featuring the huar and Dunhuang pipa melodies along with the dance rhythm. In the next section, Water Drum, the music becomes medium tempo. In the section Dialogue in Presto, the music becomes more active and contrapuntal. The section Tune: Changsha Girl is in a faster tempo as a dance scene. The Coda starts with dense rhythms, and tension is gradually intensified to reach a climax, culminating in a return of the opening section.

Jan Rybarskis Fantasia for Organ is a work of a great emotional impact. Its romantic dramaturgy leads the listener into the state of deep reflections. The work is monumental; its structure resembles a one-part sonata with a fugue in the middle fragment. The arrangement requires organs with minimum 16-18 voices in two manuals. Despite fast passages and at times complicated harmony that require a lot of practice, the work is played with comfort. The author, as an organist-practitioner, uses difficult technical elements that he controls in a perfect manner. The proportion of the traditional and modern harmonics is ideal, which means it perfectly corresponds to the dramaturgy of the work. The main formative element is the rhythm that - as the author claims himself - inspires, opens both the performer and the listener to the experience. The structure of the Fantasia brings connotations to the course of a human life, with a film story that apparently is different for everyone, but conveys one truth common to all people: in order to overcome difficulties, you need to trust God.

About the Taiwan Fantasia, van Deursen states: After having lived in Taipei for a number of years, I learned many of the local folk and popular songs. Some of the melodies are exceptionally beautiful, and my idea was to somehow combine all the elements that have made up my musical experiences over these years - Chinese melodies, western orchestral music and jazz; I wanted to see if these songs could survive with a totally different harmonic structure and concept. My original goal was to write a simple arrangement of the two songs, but quickly I discovered more melodies building upon the original ones and thus the Variations were born. Composed in 1995, this work of about 10 minutes in length is in one continuous movement, but is divided into seven short sections of contrasting moods including two cadenzas, for Trumpet and Trombone. The music is appropriate for advanced performers. Parts in C and B-flat are supplied for the Trumpets. A recording of Taiwan Fantasia can be purchased on iTunes from the album by the Yeh Shu Han Brass Quintet.

This composition is based on the march from Henry Purcell’s Music for the funeral of Queen Mary II, a work written in 1694. In this fantasia, various movements flow from one to the next following the main theme; these movements not onlyelaborate on the theme, but also contrast with it. At times, the thematic material diverges so much, that the work acquires a character of its own; however, the composer often refers back to fragments of the theme. This work was test piece in the 4thdivision of the Dutch National Brass Band Championships (NBK) in 2017.Deze compositie is gebaseerd op de mars uit Henry Purcells Music for the funeral of Queen Mary II, een werk uit het jaar 1694. J. S. Bach (1685-1750) was a German Baroque composer who is revered for the originality and skill of his contrapuntal and harmonic techniques. He spent most of his life working as an organist and choirmaster, but was also employed as a composer a many different Royal Courts. However, his skill as an organist and composer for Organ is what gained him the reputation he enjoyed during his lifetime.
This is perhaps epitomised by his Fantasia and Fugue in G Minor (BWV 542), often referred to as the Great Fantasia and Fugue. It has been edited by Sir Frederick Bridge and James Higgs.

MARS HILL FANTASIA was commissioned by and is gratefully dedicated to Mars Hill College (now Mars Hill University), as part of the festivities celebrating their Sesquicentennial in 2006. The university is located right in the heart of the beautiful mountain area of Western North Carolina, and I wrote a work which both celebrates the long and distinguished history of Mars Hill University and its lovely mountain setting. The work is scored for two combined ensembles -- an 8-part low brass ensemble of trombones, euphoniums, and tubas, and an 8-part percussion ensemble of both mallet and non-pitched percussion instruments. The music contains rich, sonorous, and joyful gestures, with stentorian fanfares, resonant chords, and lyrical melodies. Not well received in its earliest performances, Mennin's Fantasia was impressive enough to engender fondest hopes for the young composer's promise when he would reach his 30s! Its two movements are somewhat darker than Mennin's usual tone, but have held up very well in the decades since. The Fantasia can be especially illuminating to listeners new to Mennin's music because it displays, simply and clearly, virtually all the principles upon which most of his later works are constructed.
