Composed 2014. 24+12+12+12+8 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41713. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114417130). ISBN 9781491110409. UPC: 680160626687. 9x12 inches. A recipient of the New Music USA 2013 Live Music For Dance Award commissioning grant, Not Alone is inspired by the ancient Chinese poet Li Bai's poem Drinking Alone under the Moon with the Shadow. The premiere was given on April 26, 2014 by the PRISM Quartet with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, which commissioned the work to celebrate its 25th Anniversary NYC Season. From the Program Note by Matthew Levy (The PRISM Quartet), Not Alone (2014) is an interdisciplinary work...but it stands alone in a chamber music setting. The work spans a stunning range of textures, from introspective solos for each of the four saxophones to majestic hyper-active gestures. The PRISM Quartet recorded Not Alone for a 2017 release on XAS Records titled Paradigm Lost. But we're excited for a wider community of saxophonists to embrace the work, and share it with their own audiences. Not Alone is published together with Happy Birthday to PRISM, a brief miniature that Chen Yi wrote for the quartet's 20th anniversary celebration in 2004. For advanced performers._________________________Text from the scanned back cover:NOT ALONE for Saxophone QuartetHAPPY BIRTHDAY TO PRISM for Saxophone QuartetNot Alone is a 14-minute saxophone quartet and dance score inspired by the ancient Chinese poet Li Bai’s “Drinking Alone under the Moon with the Shadow.†The expansively-textured sax quartet matches the exploratory and dramatic movements and gestures in the dance. NOT ALONE was commissioned by the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company which premiered the work in collaboration with the PRISM Quartet. Also included in this publication is Chen Yi’s fascinating take on “Happy Birthday to You,†composed in celebration of Prism’s 25th anniversary season. A recipient of the New Music USA 2013 Live Music For Dance Award commissioning grant, Not Alone is inspiredby the ancient Chinese poet Li Bai’s poem “Drinking Alone under the Moon with the Shadow.†The premierewas given on April 26, 2014 by the PRISM Quartet with the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company, which commissioned thework to celebrate its 25th Anniversary NYC Season. Program Note by composer Chen YiThe original inspiration for this work for both the choreographer and the composer came from the Tang Dynasty poem - Alone Under the Moon by Li Bai. The poem describes the poet being alone in a garden. The moon and his shadow became his companions that night. The choreographer brings this idea to modern life in an urban setting. She created a series of “mindscapes†which are the result of the exploration of the different mental and physical states of being alone.Through self-examination, the choreographer raises the question: are we ever really alone? Our physical being may be standing by itself, but what about our introspective self? When we are still, we let our thoughts pass by like flowing water. If we could engage with our shadows, what would it be like?Program Note by Matthew Levy, The PRISM QuartetThe PRISM Quartet has commissioned a great many composers since our founding days in 1984. Chen Yi is among ahandful of our very favorites, and one to whom we’ve returned time and time again. Her music is powerful, expansive, intimate, and draws connections between Eastern and Western, ancient and modern traditions in a voice all her own.Chen Yi has written or adapted four works for the PRISM Quartet. She penned a wonderful miniature called HappyBirth day to PRISM to celebrate the ensemble’s 20th anniversary back in 2004 (Dedication, Innova Recordings). We subsequently commissioned her to compose Septet (2008) for Erhu, Pipa, Percussion, and Saxophone Quartet(2008), premiered and recorded with the New York ensemble Music From China (Antiphony, Innova Recordings 2010).In 2015, the PRISM Quartet performed and recorded (XAS Records) a new version of her saxophone quartet concerto,BA YIN, with the University of Missouri-Kansas City Wind Ensemble under the baton of Steven Davis (originally writtenfor the Rascher Quartet and scored for saxophones and string orchestra.).Finally, Not Alone (2014) is an interdisciplinary work written for the Nai-Ni Chen Dance Company with the PRISMQuartet, but it stands alone in a chamber music setting. The work spans a stunning range of textures, from introspectivesolos for each of the four saxophones to majestic hyper-active gestures. The PRISM Quartet recorded Not Alonefor a 2017 release on XAS Records titled Paradigm Lost. But we’re excited for a wider community of saxophonists toembrace the work, and share it with their own audiences. In his liner notes for the recording, WNYC’s John Schaefer writes: “As with much of her music, Chen employs percussiveeffects and glissandi; in Chinese music these are not considered “extended techniques†or special effects, but animportant part of the performer’s arsenal. Here, they help create the twilit mood of the opening moments. The piecesoon becomes more dramatic, suggesting the arrival of the drinker’s companions (real or imagined) and his or herincreasingly garrulous outbursts. Passages of consonance and discord can easily be heard as companionable singingand bouts of drunken argument. The piece bustles along on a kind of restless energy, until, finally, that restlessnesssubsides, giving way to a gently humorous ending where a short falling phrase signals the drinker falling asleep.â€. $39.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Solo bass voice (baritone voice), SATB choir, 2 violins, viola, basso continuo, [trumpet] - Level 3 SKU: CA.3911919 Christmas cantata. Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Edited by Klaus Hofmann. Arranged by Klaus Hofmann. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Telemann-Archiv. German title: Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Ehr. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Christmas. Set of Orchestra Parts. TVWV 1:58. Duration 18 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 39.119/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3911919). ISBN 9790007139292. Key: B flat major. Language: German/English. In his Christmas cantata Allein Gott in der Hoh sei Ehr (To God, on high alone be praise), Telemann celebrates the birth of Jesus as a symbol of the reconciliation with God and as a message of salvation for a sinful humanity. The cantata makes provision for a competent baritone soloist who sings two challenging arias, as well as a four-part choir which provides the framework for the composition with two unadorned chorale verses and, as a climax, intones the Christmas paean from Luke 2:14 Ehre sei Gott in der Hohe (Praise to God in his high heaven). In the first aria, the muted sounds of the optional high trumpet accompany the words O Freudengetone, wie lieblich, wie schone (O music of blessing! How lovely, how pleasing), evoking a gentle Christmas luster. Score and parts available separately - see item CA.3911900. $72.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Six stanzas of the fifteen-measure melody are provided here. Two stanzas are notated in SATB layout. Stanza 2 encourages the congregation to sing in four parts as in a hymnal layout (reproducible congregational pages are provided). Stanza 4 is for the choir alone, a cappella, in four parts. One stanza (1) asks the women of the congregation to sing with the women of the choir, and this concept is repeated with the men (stanza 3). Stanza 5 is unison, stanza 6 is unison with descant. An introduction and interlude before the final stanza round out the piece. A majestic piece, full of wonderful variety and color.

| Danseries. Progressive Anthology of Dances from the French Renaissance for Descant Recorder, optional Treble or Tenor Recorder and Keyboard Instrument Ut Orpheus
Recorder; Methods and Music for Children; Early Music SKU: UT.HS-303 V...(+)
Recorder; Methods and Music for Children; Early Music SKU: UT.HS-303 Vol. 2: Intermediate Level. Edited by Nicola Sansone. Saddle stitching. Classical. Ut Orpheus #HS 303. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.HS-303). ISBN 9790215327016. 9 x 12 inches. This two-volume anthology has been designed on the living experience of teaching as material intended for descant recorder players at the beginner and intermediate level. The progressive order allows an approach to ensemble music, starting from the use of just the notes of the left hand, and proceeds with the acquisition of the new positions reaching the chromatic range of an octave and a sixth. The repertoire used consists exclusively of dance music from the French and Flemish area contained in various collections published between 1530 and 1583 by various composers and editors. This choice was dictated by a number of different factors: the extremely clear and symmetrical metric and formal schemes typical of the Renaissance dance form, with due and useful exceptions, help to understand the concept of musical phrase; the use of coded and recurring rhythmic formulas makes it possible to perfect the rhythmic division; harmony based mostly on the basic steps helps to form an experience of listening, intonation and understanding of the main harmonic functions. No less significant are other elements, such as variety in the length of the pieces, from a few bars up to several dozen, which favours the development of concentration and attention, with the same technical difficulties. Above all, however, the vastness of the repertoire, more than 500 compositions, makes it possible to choose and order the pieces with an idea of technical and musical progressiveness comparable to that of a method. The edition is produced in such a way that all the pieces can be performed in four parts except for some in five parts, in different ensembles. The most basic is in reduced three-part form of descant, tenor and bass, the latter two are given respectively to the right and left hand of the keyboard player. Since recorders play at the octave above, the tenor part is also transposed in the same way to make the sound of the three upper voices homogeneous, while the bass retains its original range. It is also possible to enlarge the group to play the full four voices with the addition of an alto or tenor recorder playing the alto part, available in the separate part, and two more instruments, tenor and bass recorders or others, performing the respective lines alone or doubling with the keyboard. $30.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Schott Music #SHS1023-50. Published by Schott Music (HL.49018308). ISBN 9790001139793. Best playability and musical spirit - this is what characterizes the music of Bertold Hummel who died in 2002, and why his music must be part of the repertoire of any amateur and semi-professional orchestra. The 'Oregon Symphony' occupies a special position in his oeuvre: it was written by Hummel for the typically American symphonic wind bands, requiring almost 100 musicians, including 15 clarinets in three groups of five alone, as well as four piccolos and six flutes, bass clarinet, bassoons, saxophones, trumpets, horns, tubas and the typically American sousaphone, and five percussionists. The work consists of four movements; in the rousing finale, Hummel mixes jazz motifs with popular themes and even weaves the anthem of the State of Oregon in the final music. For getting better acquainted with this music, the first movement is also separately available ('Symphonische Ouverture', SHS 1001).

In September 2024, we celebrate the 200th birthday of the Upper Austrian composer and organist Anton Bruckner. Many of his well-known works have already been arranged for wind orchestras, but the Quadrille, originally composed for piano for four hands, is still missing in the repertoire. This arrangement by Andreas Ziegelbäck aims to fill that gap, staying closer to the original piano version. While the six movements of the piece can be seen as standalone short pieces, it is recommended to perform all movements. This arrangement expands Anton Bruckner's repertoire for wind orchestras with a rarely played musical gem. $188.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

SSATTB choir, 6 instruments ad lib., basso continuo SKU: CA.1002919 Chorale concert. Composed by Michael Praetorius. Edited by Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition. Complete orchestral parts. Sacred concertos, Sacred vocal music, Praise and thanks. Set of Orchestra Parts. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 10.029/19. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1002919). ISBN 9790007189396. Text language: German. The collection Polyhymnia Caduceatrix & Panegyrica of 1619 is rightly regarded as the high point in Michael Praetorius's output. It combines Solennische Friedt- und Frewden-Concert: which Praetorius as a travelling musician had composed largely for festive occasions - he writes of Kayser: Konig: Chur: vnd Furstlichen zusammen Kunfften - and also for furnehme Capellen vnd Kirchen. In these chorale concerti the highly modern, Italian style and the Protestant chorale combine and form a symbiosis which showed the way forward for the history of German music. The chorale settings draw on influences from Venetian polychoral music, use ritornelli and employ obbligato instruments in a way which is beyond compare, even in contemporary Italy. Here we see a quite different side of the master from the composer of Es ist ein Ros entsprungen. And above all, Praetorius always remains a practical musician who ensures that these breathtaking choral concerti can also be effectively performed with smaller forces, sometimes considerably reduced ones. The six-part polyphonic choral setting of the German Gloria (the first and fourth verses are underlaid) is divided, following Italian models, by tutti sections in triple meter. Instruments join the tutti sections ad libitum, strengthening the vocal parts. Brass quintet (2tpt. Hn. Tbn. tba) - Intermediate-Advanced SKU: FT.FM481 Composed by Roma Cafolla. Brass Quintet. Score and parts. Forton Music #FM481. Published by Forton Music (FT.FM481). ISBN 9790570483808. Brass 4 All This piece was inspired by the brass section of the WNO, the importance of 'Music For All', and the need to make it accessible to children. A stately introduction opens the piece, with all the instruments passing the theme between them. This leads into a the main body of the piece, a bold, driving tune that contrasts with a more lyrical middle section before bursting out into fanfares of repeated notes to bring the music to a thrilling finish. Brass Neck The tuba is featured prominently in ths piece. The repeated motif drives the rhythm forward: 'Cry the tears for the freezing years. Just walk away' ... as the other players finally do. Marked Andantino and in Bb major the central section changes to Bb minor, where the horn and trombone carry the melody. This is then taken up be the second trumpet and the players stand as the music modulates back to Bb major. As each player finishes they sit down until the tuba is left to finish alone. Autumn Breeze A sultry September evening and a gentle breeze fans the last of the fading flowers. The family are gathered informally, and the music begins.... Marked Andante and with flowing descending quavers, the opening has interest for every player. The horn and then the trombone pick up the central theme, and this is then embellished by the trumpets. A gentle phrase marks the ending. Bankers Notes A letter drops on the mat. A final demand and the thought of the 'green paper rotting in their clutch' assails my mind. I write notes of a differnt kind! The opening is marked Vivace and is rather punchy, but soon settles into the main theme with driving rhythms throughout. The extended ending climaxes in rising staccato semiquavers for all. $29.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Carl Fischer Music #BE10F. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.BE10F). ISBN 9780825891175. UPC: 798408091170. 8.5 x 11 inches. Key: G major. Commissioned by the Princeton-Columbia Electronic Music Center for Speculum Musicae in 1981. The first movement, In Preparation, is a study in tuning and intonation and is based on the open strings in perfectly tuned fifths, with the violins D string tuned 294 hertz. The first moments of the piece provide opportunity to tune to the tape part. (This tuning probably differs imperceptibly from a tempered tuning since the E string of the violin is only 1/33 of a semitone sharper then in a tempered system and the C strings of the viola and cello 1/33 of a semitone flatter.) Most subsequent pitches in the movement are either the open strings or major and minor thirds above and below the open strings. The minor thirds will be slightly sharp with respect to equal tempered tuning about 15 cents or 1/6 of a semitone and the major thirds will be slightly flat about 14 cents, or one seventh of a semitone. Listen to the tape part as a guide. All harmonics in this movement are to be played as natural harmonics and open strings are to be used whenever possible. In the second movement, At a Distance, the tape part largely doubles selected pitches in the string parts and should be thought of as a backdrop rather then counterpart. In this and the remaining movements equal tempered tuning is used though it will probably not be necessary to retune the instruments for this reason alone. The third movement, In Practice, is a study in modes of performance particularly with respect to rhythmic rigidity and flexibility. While the tape part may seem to bend and sway a great deal, the string parts are to be played with as much rhythmic precision as possible. At many points it may be necessary to delay or anticipate beats in order to coincide with the arrival of beats in the tape part, though in general the quarter equals 120 is accurate. In the fourth movement, In Distinction, different kinds of musical conceptions are counter-pointed and counter-posed. Here the beat is quite accurate although the notation of the synthetic saxophone part is only approximate. All the tape parts are based on computer reprocessed violin except for parts of the fourth movement in which synthetic saxophone is used. The tape part was synthesized on the IBM 3033 and 3081 computers at Princeton University and converted at the Winham Laboratory. The violin source was performed by Cyrus Stevens. Commissioned by the Princeton-Columbia Electronic Music Center for Speculum Musicae in 1981. The first movement, In Preparation, is a study in tuning and intonation and is based on the open strings in perfectly tuned fifths, with the violinas D string tuned 294 hertz. The first moments of the piece provide opportunity to tune to the tape part. (This tuning probably differs imperceptibly from a tempered tuning since the E string of the violin is only 1/33 of a semitone sharper then in a tempered system and the C strings of the viola and acello 1/33 of a semitone flatter.) SSATTB choir, 6 instruments ad lib., basso continuo SKU: CA.1002905 Chorale concert. Composed by Michael Praetorius. Edited by Uwe Wolf. This edition: urtext. Stuttgart Urtext Edition. Sacred concertos, Sacred vocal music, Praise and thanks. Full score. 8 pages. Duration 5 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 10.029/05. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.1002905). ISBN 9790007181369. | Suite for Strings - Easy Carl Fischer
Orchestra Cello, Contrabass, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2 - Grade 3 SKU: CF.CAS1...(+)
Orchestra Cello, Contrabass, Viola, Violin 1, Violin 2 - Grade 3 SKU: CF.CAS139 Composed by Viktor Kosenko. Arranged by Robert Debbaut. Carl Fischer Concert String Orchestra Series. Set of Score and Parts. 32+32+20+20+20+28 pages. Carl Fischer Music #CAS139. Published by Carl Fischer Music (CF.CAS139). ISBN 9781491160541. UPC: 680160919130. The works of Ukrainian Viktor Kosenko (1896-1938) - highly regarded in his lifetime as concertmaster, pianist, educator, and composer - became known to the arranger through his Russian-American wife, Alina, a teacher of young violinists and pianists. She owned an old out-of-print anthology of works by both Soviet composers and other world-renowned composers entitled The Young Violinist. Inspired by these lovely melodies, Debbaut compiled and arranged collections of all four of Kosenko's Four Children's Pieces for Violin and Piano, Flute and Piano, Viola and Piano, and Cello and Piano. Four Children's Pieces for piano (1930) were the first works the educational pioneer Kosenko wrote with young pianists in mind based on his own personal deep knowledge of the main objectives of a teacher. Arranged here for String Orchestra, this charming suite features four delightful movements: I. Scherzino, II. Melody, III. Olden Dance, and IV. March. Each contrasting theme can be performed alone or as a full performance of all four movements.
