Double bass SKU: BA.BA10418-85 Composed by Antonin Dvorak. Edited by Jonathan Del Mar. This edition: urtext edition. Stapled. Barenreiter Urtext. Single part. Opus 88. 12 pages. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA10418_85. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA10418-85). ISBN 9790006564699. 32.5 x 25.5 cm inches. Key: G major. Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto op. 64, is a key work of the 19th century, adhering to the classical style of Beethoven while pointing the way to the romantic ethos of Brahms. It has long been known that Mendelssohn performed the work with three soloists in succession: Ferdinand David, who worked closely with the composer during its composition and played it at the premiere; the 'child prodigy' Joseph Joachim; and Hubert Leonard, a young Belgian virtuoso about whom little is known.
As proof sheets for the Violin Concerto in E minor were long considered lost, it could be described as somewhat of a sensation when proofs for the solo violin part resurfaced together with a letter from Mendelssohn to Leonard.
The letter informs us that the composer invited Leonard to his home in Frankfurt in order to make his acquaintance. It was already known that Mendelssohn had given proof sheets to David; now we know that he also gave some to Leonard.
The recently discovered proofs reveal how Leonard played the concerto with Mendelssohn on that memorable evening in February 1845. Besides containing bowing marks and fingering, they also show how Leonard executed shifts of position and where he employed open strings. Furthermore modifications made to dynamic markings and additional legato bowing are shown.
It is safe to assume that all of this was done with Mendelssohn's approval. That the young violinist made a positive impression on the composer is confirmed in the latter's correspondence following their joint performance. Mendelssohn is full of praise for Leonard's playing and offers to lend his support in finding employment in Germany.
This revised edition of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto (only the orchestral parts remain unchanged) includes a separate booklet on performance practice.
The editor, Clive Brown, is an acknowledged expert on Romantic performance practice.

Orequesta sinfonica, Orquesta camara, voces y coro (Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Solo Voices and Choir) SKU: BO.B.3472 A la memoria de Salvador Espriu. Composed by Xavier Benguerel. Vocal Music. Choir. Duration 85:00. Published by Editorial de Musica Boileau (BO.B.3472). ISBN 9788480208130. English comments: The Requiem in memory of Salvador Espriu by Xavier Benguerel was commissioned by the Torroella de Montgri International Music Festival for a double commemoration: on the one hand, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Festival, and on the other, in remembrance of Catalan poet Salvador Espriu in the fifth year after his death. This concert, which was held on 5 October, was a brilliant closing gala performance and it was repeated twice on 6 and 7 October at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona. It was performed by the Orchestra and Choir of the Gran Teatro del Liceo, with soloists Enriqueta Tarres, soprano; Nelibel Martinez, mezzo soprano; Eduard Gimenez, tenor; and Carlos Chausson, baritone, with the additional collaboration of baritone Lluis Llach, conducted by Romano Gandolfi. In my opinion, this work by Benguerel is a piece that was written with passion and sincerity, with great strength and depth, and it contains some very beautiful passages. It is written in a language through which, without abandoning his current musical thoughts, Benguerel manages to communicate with the audience in a dense work that lasts for an hour and a half. It is interspersed with seven poems by Espriu on the subject of death, some sung and others recited, which gives the Requiem great contrasts from a musical and linguistic point of view -in comparison with the Latin texts normally used in a requiem mass-, but within a successful and coherent unity. The performers certainly proved their worth, but much of the hard work that went into preparing the piece can be attributed not only to the performers, the composer and the poet in tribute to whom the work was written, but also to the conductor Romano Gandolfi, who is largely responsible for the success of the three performances of this Requiem. Benguerel himself says of the work: This Requiem is linked to my previous work, the Llibre Vermell, and it has been written without making any concessions, but with a true wish to communicate with the audience. I've got past the stage of musical experiments and I'm now working on bridging the gap between composer and audience, which I'm sure will be good for both.

Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.SON-422). ISBN 9790004802670. 9 x 12 inches. The music world has long been familiar with Mendelssohn's celebrated, standard-setting Piano Trio in D minor op. 49. No one, however, knew how many stages this masterpiece went through before it was finally published in 1840. According to preliminary sketches that can no longer be reconstructed, the early version of the of the work in its traditional piano-trio scoring was written in spring 1839. It was given its first performance at the Mendelssohn home in Berlin and remained unpublished. The following year, Mendelssohn brought out a version of the work with flute instead of violin at the request of an English publisher. He had already strongly reworked the original version for the publication. Another revision was made of the flute version, which not only took into account the different technical possibilities of a wind instrument, but also affected the compositional substance of the work. Thus Mendelssohn very nearly did write his D minor Piano Trio three times! $250.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Organ; Early Music SKU: UT.ES-47 Composed by Francisco Correa de Arauxo. Edited by Guy Bovet. Hardback (Cloth Hard Cover with Jacket). Classical. Ut Orpheus #ES 47. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.ES-47). ISBN 9790215314511. 9 x 12 inches. The few available biographical data tell us that Francisco Correa de Arauxo (or de Acevedo) was born in Seville and baptized probably in September 1584. He was appointed organist of the Salvador, the second church in Seville, in 1599, and ordained priest probably in 1608. After several unsuccessful attempts to become organist of the Cathedral, he accepted an offer to take the main position at the Cathedral of Segovia and remained there until his death, in spite of invitations by the Chapter of Seville to return home and take the office he had always wanted. He is buried in the Cathedral of Segovia. Not unlike J.S. Bach, Correa gives the image of an artist inbetween times, with one foot in tradition and establishment, and the other in revolution and novity. We must recognize the amazing beauty and genius of his music, a genius which sets him apart from all other Spanish, just as Frescobaldi from all other Italians, Grigny from all other French and Bach from all other German composers of their times. The Facultad Organica was published in 1626. This new Urtext edition, edited by Guy Bovet, is based on the Brussels copy; doubtful passages have been compared with the two copies of the Madrid Biblioteca Nacional. $321.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
