The Fuzzsquatch Fuzzdrive will make your rig roar! This hulking humanoid harnesses the unique power of operational amplifiers (op-amps) to craft its signature sustained distortion. Featuring expansive tone-shaping capabilities and a character all its own, the Fuzzsquatch promises to transport you to a realm of colossal fuzz tone nirvana! The Fuzzsquatch Fuzzdrive is a recreation of the Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi, first released in 1969. Originally marketed as a “harmonic distortion sustain,†it has been lumped together with fuzz effects, although it's a very different animal than classic fuzz effects like a Fuzz Face or a Tone Bender. The circuitry of the Fuzzsquatch Fuzzdrive differs from the traditional transistor-based Big Muff circuit in that it uses operational amplifiers (op-amps) to achieve its signature sustaining sound. With widely-sweeping tone controls and a character all its own, the Fuzzsquatch Fuzzdrive will surely be a formidable addition to your sonic arsenal.

The piece reflects the composer's fascination with the origins of the universe and deep space in general. The title comes from a theory, formulated by Pythagoras, that the cosmos was ruled by the same laws he had discovered that govern the ratios of note frequencies of the musical scale. (‘Harmonia’ in Ancient Greek, which means scale or tuning rather than harmony - Greek music was monophonic). He also believed that these ratios corresponded to the distances of the six known planets from the sun and that the planets each produced a musical note which combined to weave a continuous heavenly melody (which, unfortunately, we humans cannot hear). In this work, these six notesform the basis of the sections MUSIC OF THE SPHERES and HARMONIA. The pieces opens with a horn solo called t = 0, a name given by some scientists to the moment of the Big Bang when time and space were created, and this is followed by a depiction of the BIG BANG itself, as the entire universe bursts out from a single point. A slower section follows called THE LONELY PLANET which is a meditation on the incredible and unlikely set of circumstances which led to the creation of the Earth as a planet that can support life, and the constant search for other civilisations elsewhere in the universe. ASTEROIDS AND SHOOTING STARS depicts both the benign and dangerous objects that are flying through space and which constantly threaten our planet, and the piece ends with THE UNKNOWN, leaving in question whether our continually expanding exploration of the universe will eventually lead to enlightenment or destruction. Asteroids and Shooting Stars beschrijft objecten in de ruimte.

Hvil (Eng.:rest) is an imperative, and a plea: the earth's plea to humankind. This plea consists of words and music which have taken shape at the same time in a close collaboration between composer and the author Aasne Linnesta. 'Hvil' was commissioned by the Nordland Musikkfestuke festival, Bodo, in 2008 and received its premier performance there by Marianne Beate Kielland and Nils Anders Mortensen. The piece is released on the album 'Come Away Death' by Kielland and Sergej Osadchuk (piano) on the Norwegian label 2L, in 2010.

In this powerful offering from Mark Hayes, we journey with Christ through Holy Week, experiencing momentous events that changed history for all of humankind. Mark's distinctive compositional voice adds to the drama of the work. Masterful arrangements of Twila Paris's Lamb of God and Keith Getty and Stuart Townend's The Power of the Cross, along with an unforgettable mezzo soprano solo inspired by Michelangelo's Pieta, contribute to a truly compelling work for Easter worship. This work may be performed during Holy Week by excluding the final movement or in its entirety for Easter and Eastertide. The beautiful piano accompaniment reflects Mark's keyboard artistry, and his masterful orchestration offers an added dimension to the drama. The Power of the Cross provides an artful and poignant reminder of Christ's sacrifice of love, His triumph over death, and His promise of redemption for us all.

Commissioned by Network for New Music, who premiered the work in April 2008, with support from Philadelphia Music Project, an Artistic Initiative of The Pew Charitable Trusts, administered by the University of the Arts.“Song and Dance†began its life as a nascent melody in the late eighties, employing a similar motivic cell as did three of my works written over a period of several years — East Wind, String Quartet No. 2 (Vistas), and Mirage. At the ore of these three works is the simplest of melodic kernels — a note encircled by its two neighboring tones (and more specifically, a half step above and whole step below). At the time, I envisioned writing a work for voice, oboe, and marimba, and had just begun it, only to drop it in favor of more pressing compositional assignments. Almost twenty years later, the vocal fragment finally evolved into the “song†of this work, played here by the soprano saxophone. But it seems that the song, all these years, had been waiting for its counterpart, a dance. Singing and dancing are two of humankind’s most basic and essential impulses, transcending time and place, reaching back to the earliest civilizations. The resulting composition, “Song and Danceâ€, moves back and forth between the two, delineating its various parts further with the use of both soprano and alto saxophones, partnered by mallet percussion instruments — mostly vibraphone and marimba, with bells added at the very end of the work. The song portions return to the same melody, varied and evolved over time, as new materials are introduced in the dance sections, affecting the presentation of the recurring song music. My thanks to the Network for New Music for commissioning this work and allowing me the freedom to choose its format and instrumentation.—Shulamit Ran.

Both a spectacular concerto for saxophone, and a dramatic tone poem on Roman mythology, QUICKSILVER is a 23-minute concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Ensemble by one of the sax literature’s most commissioned and admired composers.Through worded captions as well as gorgeously expressive tone painting, Movement 1 depicts the birth and childhood pranks of Mercury, Movement 2 shows him escorting souls to the gates of the Underworld, and Movement 3 is a phantasmagoric finale portraying Mercury as messenger amid the conflicts of other mythological figures. There are many YouTube performances available, both in the original version with Wind Ensemble, and with Piano. In addition to being another name for the element mercury, “quicksilver†is used to describe something that changes quickly or is difficult to contain. My concerto of the same name was inspired by the Roman god Mercury, as well as the mercurial nature of the saxophone: unpredictable, very lively, and volatile. Mercury (known as Hermes in Greek mythology) is best known for his winged shoes, which allowed him to fly swiftly as the messenger of his fellow Olympians. Mercury had other duties too, including serving as the god of merchants, travelers, and tricksters; he also ushered souls of the departed to the Underworld.Quicksilver tells three tales of the Roman god. The first movement (Antics of a Newborn God) opens with the birth of Mercury; after he takes his first steps, he toddles around, gleefully looking for mischief. He stumbles across a herd of cows that belong to his brother Apollo; Mercury slyly lets the cows out of their pen before toddling onward with his mischief-making.In the second movement (Guiding Souls to the Underworld), Pluto, god of the Underworld, bids Mercury to bring him fresh souls. The movement begins with death-knells tolling for humans who are about to die; Mercury picks up these souls and leads them down to the gates of the Underworld. The third and final movement (Messenger of Olympus) depicts Mercury as he is busily running errands for various gods and goddesses. We first encounter him mid-flight as he dashes to earth to find Aeneas, a Trojan lieutenant who had been run out of Troy by the invading Greeks. Aeneas is on a quest to find land on which to establish a new city that would eventually become Rome. While traveling, he is distracted from his quest when he meets the beautiful queen Dido. They live together for many years before Mercury intervenes; he chastises Aeneas for giving up on his quest and persuades him to pick it up again. As Aeneas mournfully resumes his journey, we hear Dido perish of a broken heart. Mercury then takes to the skies to seek out Perseus, who is preparing to kill Medusa, the hideous gorgon who has snakes for hair and a gaze that turns those who catch her glance into stone. Mercury advises Perseus on how to slay Medusa and lends Perseus his sword to do the deed. We hear Perseus victorious in the beheading of Medusa, after which Mercury takes to the skies once more to fly home to Olympus.

The 3rd String Quartet was originally composed in 1982-3 to a commission from The Adelaide Festival, and premiered by The Petra Quartet in 1983. Subsequent to this quartet, I have composed two more; No. 4 in 1986 and No. 5 in 2002.The offer to re-publish this work, led me to begin by a process of amendment, but ended in the composition of a virtually new quartet! Only parts of the original quartet have been retained. I also chose to 'frame' (in my case this means an inspirational focus and filter), the quartet in a new way too.In Flight Music keeps the 4-movement format of the original quartet, but is now directly linked to a life-long interest in flight. The first two movements are concerned with aspects of humans in flight, whilst the last two deal with insects and birds respectively.Since all my music is these days preceded by visualisations in the form of drawings, wherever possible, this quartet might be performed with the four drawings, one for each movement, back-projected behind the players.Digital copies of these drawings may be obtained from Schott Music.Edward Cowie.Maurens. As a work commissioned by Ensemble Reconsil taking South Africa as its theme, this composition conjures up a fantasy landscape by means of its symbolic musical language, its timbres and its quotations from the music of the country’s original, inhabitants as well as that of European newcomers. In the middle stands the ‘Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park’; the establishment of this park of peace has the aim of creating a harmonious, balanced relationship between humans, animals and nature.

This comprehensive introduction to Wagner's opera 'Tristan and Isolde' contains the complete libretto with numerous music examples. Kurt Pahlen comments on the work with music-related references as well explanations on the external and internal action. A summary of the plot and a brief outline of the genesis bring 'Tristan and Isolde' into relation with the composer's entire oeuvre and his life, thus providing comprehensive, richly illustrated information on this opera.

This book is the first pictorial monograph about the Korean-German composer Isang Yun, who was born in southern Korea in 1917 and died in Berlin in 1995. It was first in Germany, with influence from what around 1960 was then the avant-garde that he developed an individual musical language of his own. A little later Yun was drawn into the field of tension between political advocacy motivated by humanitarian, societal concerns and responding to ideological incitement, between imprisonment, torture, and reparation. It was in his compositional work that he found a place of refuge. His music proceeds from the primacy of melody and the sustained tone, which he found preformed in the traditional music of his native Korea and then succeeded in developing heterophonically and spatially. The resultant works were characterized by unusual intensity and rich tone colors.

Spiritual AffinitiesSchumann had already worked on Byron's Manfred as a law student, and the topic fascinated him from that time on. Perhaps he discovered a spiritual affinity to himself in the romantic hero's inner conflict? In any event, he decided on a stage rendition of the drama with incidental music, an entirely new genre that he had been dreaming of for some time already. He conducted the overture - it dates from 1848 - for the first time as a separate piece in March 1852. In addition, he followed the preparations for the first edition of the complete performance material very closely, which was published by Breitkopf in Leipzig that same year. The Breitkopf Urtext edition of the Manfred Overture is based on this first print of the score and parts revised by Schumann. At the same time, this edition also marks a new chapter in the expansion of the collection of Schumann overtures that have already been published by Breitkopf (to Hermann und Dorothea op. 136, Szenen aus Goethes Faust WoO 3 and Genoveva op. 81).Audiences should be ready for something new and unheard of, wrote Robert Schumann to Franz Liszt in late 1851, referring to the world premiere of his Dramatic Poem Manfred.

NASA's Apollo program is known for landing the first humans on the moon in 1969. In this composition, your dauntless adventure begins with a powerful lift off. Once achieved, the main theme is presented by flutes, oboe, and then trumpets, with stabilizers provided by baritone, tenor sax, and eventually the remainder of the crew. Stage 1 boosters (a strong, rhythmic accompaniment) provide the propulsion needed to voyage through to a sea of tranquility (lyrical section). From there we journey to an adventurous transition and a final re-entry of the main theme. (2:35) This title is available in MakeMusic Cloud.

Between Beethoven and Brahms, a long neglected workSchumann's last work for solo instrument and orchestra was not given its premiere until 1937, at which time it was also released in an editorially inadequate version. A re-evaluation of Schumann's late oeuvre began in the 1980s, in the wake of which the missing link between the concertos of Beethoven and Brahms (Yehudi Menuhin) also drew increasing attention. Since then, those in the know have come to appreciate the work, whose unique musical and technical demands challenge for both interpreter and listener. This new edition of what is perhaps the most underestimated masterpiece of the Romantic era is the first meticulously prepared Urtext edition of the score. Nothing short of incredible is the fact that the composer's own piano reduction from which Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim played the piece is being published here for the first time! Thomas Zehetmair, who has significantly contributed to the re-assessment of the concerto, assumed the task of providing a sound technical basis to his revision of the solo part.Perhaps this edition will help stimulate awareness and appreciation of this unjustly forgotten romantic violin concerto described by Menuhin as the missing link between the concertos by Beethoven to Brahms. (John Thomson, Stringendo)Schumann's last work for solo instrument and orchestra was not given its premiere until 1937. This new edition is the first meticulously prepared Urtext edition of the score and the composer's own piano reduction - from which Clara played the piece!
