SKU: HL.50601272 Composed by Alberto Zedda. Misc. Biography/Composers & Musicians, Classical, Classical Reference. Softcover. 224 pages. Ricordi #NR141734. Published by Ricordi (HL.50601272). ISBN 9788881920358. UPC: 888680791490. 6x8 inches. Trans. Charles Jernigan. This book is not a biography, nor a technical-artistic analysis of Rossini's work. It is rather the result of a lifetime of enthusiastic cohabitation with the composer and the desire to spread the word about him. It is also an occasion to translate long experience into useful suggestions for understanding and interpreting his works. Thus, it is a book both for musicians, who will find advice and reflections useful for taking on the Rossini repertory, and for listeners fascinated by this composer, who is so easy to approach, but so difficult to understand.
Alberto Zedda (Milan, January 2, 1928-Pesaro, March 6, 2017) was among the most important architects of the Rossini Renaissance. Through his work as a musicologist and his indefatigable conducting of Rossini's operas worldwide, he became a charismatic advocate of the composer from Pesaro. Zedda was Artistic Director of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro and Honorary President of the German Rossini Society. $22.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Solo piccolo SKU: P2.10018 Composed by Tom Dempster. Solo music, 20th century. Published by Potenza Music (P2.10018). Thomas Dempster writes, Divided into five short movements, this work makes usage of vertiginous trajectories and the extremes of range of the piccolo: that is, the sheer precipitous movement from extreme middle to extreme-extreme high, and the thin, airy cliffs between. In some dialects of French, the word pont - bridge - is homophonous to the word pentes (or near enough, as the voice of the flute is to that of the piccolo). At least on a literary level, this could reflect back upon the nature of the piece - short bursts of activity connected by reflective, connective tissues all extrapolated from the first explosive 45 seconds of music. This work was originally completed in July 2007 and revised in January 2009.. $17.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Soloists, Mixed choir, Orchestra SKU: BA.BA10726-01 Oratorio in three parts. Composed by George Frideric Handel. Edited by Michael Pacholke. This edition: Complete edition. Linen. Complete edition, Score. HWV 46. Baerenreiter Verlag #BA10726-01. Published by Baerenreiter Verlag (BA.BA10726-01). ISBN 9790006575596. 33 x 26 cm inches. Text Language: Italian. Preface: Pacholke, Michael. In the brief half-year period from August 14, 1736, to January 27, 1737, Georg Friedrich Handel achieved an unprecedented level of productivity in his opera compositions, creating three operas. Additionally, in March 1737, he also composed a largely new oratorio titled â??Il trionfo del Tempo e della Verità â? (â??The Triumph of Time and Truthâ?) HWV 46b. The libretto of this oratorio closely corresponds to that of the oratorio â??La Bellezza ravveduta nel trionfo del Tempo e del Disingannoâ? (â??Beauty Reconciled in the Triumph of Time and Enlightenmentâ?) HWV 46a written in 1707. With â??La Bellezza ravvedutaâ?, Handel composed an allegorical and particularly dramatic oratorio right at the beginning of his oratorio compositions. In this work, there is no chorus inclined towards reflection. Not only do the four allegorical figures, Bellezza (Beauty), Piacere (Pleasure), Tempo (Time), and Disinganno (Enlightenment), listen to each other and react to the ideas presented by the others, but this prevailing dramatic principle of dispute is also found in the recitatives.
In 1737, when reworking the oratorio material as â??Il trionfo del Tempo e della Verità â?, Handel approached the task pragmatically. He needed a new non-dramatic work to fulfill the eveningâ??s program for his audience at the Covent Garden Theatre during the fasting season when theatrical performances were prohibited. Although he had excellent Italian vocal soloists, notorious for their pronunciation in Handelâ??s English oratorios and who naturally preferred singing in Italian, Handel found a solution. It was evident to Handel that, in response to the ban on performances of his Italian operas during the fasting season of 1737, he should promptly create a new oratorio in the Italian language but following the three-part â??Englishâ? oratorio form that he had developed in â??Estherâ? HWV 50b in 1732. Unlike in Rome in 1707, he had access to a chorus in London in 1737, and the English oratorio, with its substantial choral sections, a preference for concert-like rather than dramatic composition, and frequent inclusion of organ concertos loosely related to the narrative, was already established.
The new volume of the HHA includes the original version of the 1737 premiere as well as all the surviving early and later versions (the latter being exceptional highlights) of individual musical pieces from â??Il trionfo del Tempo e della Verità â?.

SATB choir, trumpets, timpani, cymbals, organ SKU: PL.0202BP Composed by William Ferris. Choral, Festival, General. Brass Parts. Paraclete Press #0202BP. Published by Paraclete Press (PL.0202BP). The late William Ferris composed this large, festive work specifically for the dawn of the new millenium and it received its premiere on January 2, 2000. It is based on the words of Psalm 118. A fanfare at the opening provides the sturdy musical material for the entire work. The choir first enters with the words, It is good to give thanks to the Lord. The opening section is full of wonderful sonority for choir, brass and organ. A repeat of the opening fanfare leads to the middle section, based on modal harmonies and reflective in spirit. The fanfare returns and opens the final section with triumphant words, This is the day that the Lord has made. The work ends in a very declamatory manner. This is a splendid new festival work that can be performed in any liturgical season. $6.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Bassoon - Intermediate SKU: FT.FM517 Composed by Richard Lambert. Solo Bassoon. Score and Part. Forton Music #FM517. Published by Forton Music (FT.FM517). ISBN 9790570484164. Completed in January 2009, this short tour de force for the 'clown of the orchestra' exploits the humorous nature of the instrument, whilst exploring its full range. Structured in a simple ternary form, the outer sections are highly chromatic (loosely centred around the note B flat, but eschewing a sense of key) and there are many changes of time signature, giving it highly rhythmic energy. The brief central section is more reflective and is a free development of a motif hear in bars 30 to 35: a semiquaver 'theme' is subjected serially to four variations in a quasi-waltz style, employing this time a consistent 3/4 time signature. The sections are joined with a hesitant quaver figure, which is first heard in bar 19. $16.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Published by Faber Music (AP.12-0571561551). ISBN 9780571561551. English. The Colour of Pomegranates for alto flute and piano was composed for flautist James Dutton and pianist Mark Kincaid and received its first performance in 1995 at the Purcell Room at London's Southbank Centre. The 7-minute piece takes its title from a film by Armenian director Sergei Parajanov (1924-1990). In one scene, a peasant sits on a cupola playing his flute to the sound of church bells. In Anderson's piece, the alto flute reflects this image in a slow lyrical melody, whilst the piano part invokes the tolling of bells.

| String Quartet Op. 37 String Quartet: 2 violins, viola, cello PWM (Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne)
String Quartet (Score) SKU: HL.370494 Critical Edition Hardcover. ...(+)
String Quartet (Score) SKU: HL.370494 Critical Edition Hardcover. Composed by Karol Szymanowski. PWM. Classical. Hardcover. 60 pages. Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne #9267030. Published by Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne (HL.370494). ISBN 9781705147009. UPC: 840126994025. The First String Quartet in C major, Op. 37, was written in the autumn of 1917 and earned Szymanowski the first prize in a competition organized by the Ministry of Religious and in a competition organized by the Ministry of Religious and Educational Affairs in January 1922. The First String Quartet is notable for its clar and simple construction. The first movement is in the formof a sonata allegro; the Andantino semplice (in modo iuna canzone) in the middle is a cross between ternary and variation form. The final Scherzando alla burlesca also keeps to the form of a sonata allegro. The combinations and proportions of formal factors and the treatment of thematic material betray a fairly conventional adoption of classical models. Similarly, the expressive and structural use of melodic material shows a respect for traditional norms. Szymanowski created, in other works from the same period, his own individual type of melodic line, which was strongly expressive and achieved its effect chiefly by its tonal qualieties; nevertheless in this Quartet he returns to a fluid, cantilena-like, symmetrically shaped melodic line, which runs along in broad phrases of a concentrated, reflective character. Melody becomes the chief factor in the development of the form, both in thematic usage and in the application of a more polyphonic texture. Harmonic and tonal means are considerably simplified in the Quartet []. Most of the writing is linear, or horizontal, with individual treatment of each part, the parallel continuation of the four sound planes, almost a matter of principle. The functions of the particular instruments in realizing these planes are constantly changing, which accounts for the even greater variedy of tone-colour. The decision to forego experiment with forms and sonorities is reflectedin the overall approach to musical expression. The predominant atmosphere of restrained emotion, quiet lyricism and serenity is strongly suggestive of classical aestetic models. (Based on Zofia Helman Commentary on Szymanowski Complete Edition, Vol. B6) (II) The ''Second String Quartet'' represents an interesting attempt to revert to classical form coupled with the new harmonic and tonal vocabulary worked out previously in the ''Slopiewnie'', ''Stabat Mater'' and ''Mazurkas''. It was also the first time the composer had used folk elements in the framework of a major classical form. The ''Second String Quartet'' is in a special category among Szymanowski's works. Though it dates from the composer was still occupied with folk music, it nevertheless shows him returning to classical models, but at the same time using an aesthetic of subjective expression, which gives the work its own individual stamp. The ''Second String Quartet'' synthesis of the various directions in which Szymanowski was attempting to develop. The sonority and texture used in the first. $40.00 - See more - Buy online
