Carus CD series: Carus Choir Coach; Passions. Carus Choir Coach. Matthauspassion.Ccc. Passions. Compact Disc. BWV 244. Duration 175 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.244/94. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3124494). Language: German. Practical performing Urtext edition based on the latest state of Bach research. Every era hears and interprets Bach anew, and every era also evaluates the sources afresh and with new eyes. 40 years after the publication of the St. Matthew Passion in the New Bach Edition, Klaus Hofmann, Director of the Johann Sebastian Bach Institute Gottingen for many years and a contributing editor to the New Bach Edition, presents a new edition. Hofmann has placed the study of the sources at the service of musical practice and the detailed investigation of Bach's intentions. Bach scholars are well aware that Bach's original score and performance parts, running to almost 500 pages of music, are full of ambiguities and contradictions, particularly regarding articulation, which constantly challenge performers to new interpretations. Hofmann discusses these and other problems in a concise critical report, frequently arriving at new conclusions in the process. Extensive notes about parallel passages offer valuable help for interpretation. Special attention was devoted to the performance material with regard to practical needs. Thus, for example the text incipits are also printed in the instrumental parts (including tacet passages). In short - an Urtext edition for practical performance based on the latest findings in Bach research. Score available separately - see item CA.3124400. $26.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Orchestra Soli STB, Coro SATB, 2 Blfl f1, 2 Ob, Tr, 2 Vl, Va, Bc - Level 3 SKU: CA.3112707 Cantata for the Sunday of Estomihi. Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Edited by Hans Grischkat, Felix Loy. Stuttgart Urtext Edition: Bach vocal. Sacred vocal music, Cantatas, Special days, Lent and Passiontide, Holy Week, Mourning, death. Study score. Composed 1725. BWV 127. 44 pages. Duration 21 minutes. Carus Verlag #CV 31.127/07. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3112707). ISBN 9790007245177. Key: F major. Language: German/English. Text: Eber, Paul. Cantata BWV 127 belongs to the cycle of chorale cantatas which Bach performed in 1724/25 in Leipzig. It bears close links to the St John Passion, which was performed on Good Friday 1725 in its second version. In formal terms and in the interpretation of the text and its orchestration, it is one of the most astonishing vocal works by Bach. The opening chorus, with its multi-layered construction, is nothing less than a preliminary version for the chorale fantasia O Mensch bewein dein Sunde gross. The aria Die Seele ruht in Jesu Handen is distinguished by its exquisite scoring: a solo oboe and the soprano form a duet, whilst the background comprises delicate chords on recorders and continuo, intended to symbolize funeral bells. A solo trumpet gives the following movement particular brilliance. The words Ich breche mit starker und helfender Hand unmistakably anticipate the chorus Sind Blitze, sind Donner in Wolken verschwunden from the St Matthew Passion. New revised edition. Score available separately - see item CA.3112700. $14.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 2 to 3 weeks

Soli, Coro SATB/SATB, Soprano in ripieno, 2 Fl / Blfl, 2 Ob / Obda / Obca, Fg, 2 Vl, Va, Vdg (Vc), Bc - Level 4 SKU: CA.3124450 Arrangement with one orchestra only (arr. D. Sourisse). Composed by Johann Sebastian Bach. Arranged by Dominique Sourisse. Great choral works in small scorings. Gattungen vokal: Passions. Full Score. Composed 2020. BWV 244. Duration 164 minutes. Published by Carus Verlag (CA.3124450). ISBN 9790007261955. German. Text: Henrici (Picander), Christian Friedrich. As well as soloists and double choir, Bach's great Passion calls for two complete orchestras. That posed problems even for Bach: he could only perform this Passion in one of his two Leipzig churches - there simply was not enough space in the Nikolaikirche! The same applies today to many choirs, quite apart from the financial expense of the double orchestra. In this arrangement, Dominique Sourisse combines the two orchestras, and has endeavored to retain the double-choir effect with individual solutions without ever resorting to the formulaic. With the alternative solutions offered in some movements, it is possible to perform the work with just single strings. All the vocal parts (soloists and chorus) are unaltered in the arrangement, so that the vocal scores and choral scores from the original version can be used. .
