Ralph Vaughan Williams, ever fond of poetry, found creative impetus for his beautiful romance The Lark Ascending, IRV 39, in an 1881 poem by George Meredith. Marie Pauline Hall, to whom the work was dedicated, gave the first performance of the original violin and piano version, here presented in a Masters reprint edition, at Shirehampton Public Hall on December 15, 1920, beside pianist Geoffrey Mendham. After World War I, the composer expanded the work for soloist and full orchestra. This has become the version most familiar to listeners. The violin, lifting its silvery tones above the stage, captures the soaring nature of Meredith's couplet: Till lost on his aerial rings/In light, and then the fancy sings. Reprint edition.

The Lark In The Clear Air is a traditional Irish air. Since the 1800s, it has been associated with a poem by the Irish writer Sir Samuel Ferguson (1810-1886), one of the founding fathers of the Irish literary revival. It has been arranged here by Edgar M. Deale for TBarB Three-part Male Voice Chorus, with Piano accompaniment. It makes a perfect recital item for any Male Voice Choir.
Edgar M. Deale (1902-1999) was a twentieth century Irish composer. A former chorister at Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, he was largely self-taught as a composer. His output was limited to a few dozen original works and arrangements, but hiscontribution to Irish music is gradually achieving the recognition it deserves.

The Country of Larks by Julian Philips is a miniature cantata for Tenor, Horn and Piano that investigates an epiphanous moment of connection with nature. The text was extracted and reassembled from Robert Louis Stevenson's An Autumn Effect, an 1875 essay that describes an autumnal hike through the Chilterns, philosophical, comical and poignant by turns. Stevenson's narrative framework is filleted into a short sequence of short recitative and arioso sections, culminating in an extended musical response to his fascination for the larks. The Country of Larks was commissioned by the 2021 Oxford Lieder Festival, on the occasion of its twentieth anniversary and was premiered at the 2022 edition of the festival on 25 October 2022 by Stuart Jackson (Tenor), Jocelyn Freeman (Piano) and George Strivens (Horn). This edition is published as part of the Peters Contemporary Chamber Series.

Adam Granger self-published the first edition of Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar in 1979. A second edition was published in 1994. Now Mel Bay Publications presents the third edition of the book.
This 236-page book is the most extensive and best-documented collection of fiddle tunes for the flatpicking guitar player in existence, and includes reels, hoedowns, hornpipes, rags, breakdowns, jigs and slip-jigs, presented in Southern, Northern, Irish, Canadian, Texas and Old-time styles.
There are 508 fiddle tunes referenced under 2500 titles and alternate titles. The titles are fully indexed, making the book doubly valuable as a reference book and a source book.
In this new edition, all tunes are typeset, instead of being handwritten as they were in the previous editions, making the tabs easier to read.
The tunes in Grangerâ??s Fiddle Tunes for Guitar are presented in Easytab, a streamlined tablature notation system designed by Adam specifically for fiddle tunes.
The book comes with a link which gives access to mp3 recordings by Adam of all 508 tunes, each played once at a moderate tempo, with rhythm on one channel and lead on the other.
