Franz Liszt (1811-1886) started work on his CONCERTO FOR PIANO AND ORCHESTRA No. 2 in A major, S. 125, in 1839 and 1840. Putting it through a series of revisions, he dedicated the concerto to his student Hans von Bronsart von Schellendorf. The composer conducted the first performance in Weimar on January 7, 1857 with Bronsart as soloist. Liszt completed a 4th revision in 1861. Less virtuosic than his first piano concerto, it is played without break and serves as a masterful example of thematic transformation. Double bass (2.2.2.2 - 4.3.3.0 - timp - str) SKU: BR.OB-5288-27 Overture to the Dramatic Poem Manfred by Lord Byron - Urtext. Composed by Robert Schumann. Edited by Christian Rudolf Riedel. Orchestra; stapled. Orchester-Bibliothek (Orchestral Library). Audiences should be ready for something new and unheard of, wrote Robert Schumann to Franz Liszt in late 1851, referring to the world premiere of his Dramatic Poem Manfred. Overture; Romantic. Part. 4 pages. Duration 11'. Breitkopf and Haertel #OB 5288-27. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.OB-5288-27). ISBN 9790004342817. 10 x 12.5 inches. Spiritual AffinitiesSchumann had already worked on Byron's Manfred as a law student, and the topic fascinated him from that time on. Perhaps he discovered a spiritual affinity to himself in the romantic hero's inner conflict? In any event, he decided on a stage rendition of the drama with incidental music, an entirely new genre that he had been dreaming of for some time already. He conducted the overture - it dates from 1848 - for the first time as a separate piece in March 1852. In addition, he followed the preparations for the first edition of the complete performance material very closely, which was published by Breitkopf in Leipzig that same year. The Breitkopf Urtext edition of the Manfred Overture is based on this first print of the score and parts revised by Schumann. At the same time, this edition also marks a new chapter in the expansion of the collection of Schumann overtures that have already been published by Breitkopf (to Hermann und Dorothea op. 136, Szenen aus Goethes Faust WoO 3 and Genoveva op. 81).

Piano/harpsichord and orchestra (picc.2.2.cor ang.2.2 - 4.2.3.1 - timp - perc(4) - hp - str) SKU: BR.PB-15160 Urtext. Composed by Sergej Rachmaninow. Edited by Norbert Gertsch. Orchestra; Softbound. Partitur-Bibliothek (Score Library). Variations; Solo concerto; Late-romantic; Early modern. Sheet Music. Duration 22'. Breitkopf and Haertel #PB 15160. Published by Breitkopf and Haertel (BR.PB-15160). ISBN 9790004215654. 10 x 12.5 inches. Paganini's Capricci served as inspiration for many composers. In addition to Brahms, Schumann and Liszt, Rachmaninoff was also inspired by the idea. His Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini has since become one of his best known and most popular works and was an immediate success. In 1934, between two intense concert seasons, Rachmaninoff took advantage of the peace and quiet at his villa on Lake Lucerne to compose the Variations. Paganini's virtuosity and joy of playing are juxtaposed with the Gregorian sequence Dies irae. A symbol of the evil spirit to which Paganini sold his soul? At least that is how Rachmaninoff wrote it in a letter to the choreographer Fokine. For the demanding piano part, the composer and celebrated pianist himself had to start practicing very early: The composition is very difficult, and I should really start practicing now, but I get lazier with my finger exercises year after year. The editor, Norbert Gertsch, presents with this edition for the first time an Urtext edition of the work that Joachim Kaiser described as Rachmaninoff's most spiritual, witty, elegant work for piano.. $160.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

Piano SKU: HL.48024396 Piano. Composed by Sergei Bortkiewicz. BH Piano. Classical. Softcover. 24 pages. Simrock #M221122391. Published by Simrock (HL.48024396). ISBN 9783923051540. UPC: 196288199489. 9.0x12.0x0.93 inches. Sergei Bortkiewicz (1877-1952) continued the late-Romantic piano tradition with great melodic talent. After studying in St. Petersburg with Anatoly Lyadov and in Leipzig with the Liszt pupil Alfred Reisenauer, the native Ukrainian settled in Berlin. Political times blocked his career several times. Only in 1945 he was able to regain his footing in Vienna. The Fantasy Pieces for Piano op. 61 were to be printed in 1949 by the music publishers Benjamin, but again the political circumstances were not favorable for Bortkiewicz. In 2013, the manuscript was discovered in the Saxon State Archive Leipzig. This first edition finally makes Bortkiewicz's highly pianistic pieces accessible. The fantasy pieces do not deny the role models Chopin, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky and bribe with Slavic tinted melancholy, paired with Viennese charm. $26.99 - See more - Buy online
