In this volume we wanted to investigate the intersection between the Industrial Revolution and the aesthetic-musical field. In particular, we aimed to explore the European dimension of the cultural exchanges caused by the phenomenon of musical migration, together with the international relationships generated by the music printing industry, entrepreneurship and the market for musical instruments. The later eighteenth and earlier nineteenth centuries were a time of fundamental change in European life, proceeding from the revolutionary implications of the ideologies of Enlightenment, and reverberating in market economies, methods of manufacturing and agriculture, modes of travel, and population distribution. The development of new technologies resulted in the enlargement and improvement of the music printing industry, and in the widespread diffusion of music in private and public spheres. The Industrial Revolution brought about the ‘modernization’ of productive processes and, as a consequence, engendered a kind of ‘globalization’ of the musical market. $200.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks

SKU: ST.MB100 Composed by Thomas Augustine Arne. Edited by Peter Lynan and Simon McVeigh. Library Volumes. Edited by Simon McVeigh & Peter Lynan. First published in 2016. Pages: 304. Format: Hardback. Dimensions (mm): 330 x 254 x 32. Full Score. Stainer & Bell Ltd. #MB100. Published by Stainer & Bell Ltd. (ST.MB100). ISBN 9790220224881. Although Arne's Judith of 1761 was commended by Charles Dibdin as an oratorio 'that does honour to the English genius', and was long recognised as an important adjunct of the Handelian form and perhaps the finest such work by a native composer before Elgar, the difficulty of establishing an authoritative performing version of the composer's only surviving work in the genre has undoubtedly contributed to its neglect. Here published in a complete, critical edition for the first time, it seems entirely fitting that this true cultural monument of 18th-century Britain should be celebrated with the hundredth volume of Musica Britannica. Performing material to accompany this volume is now available (Ref. HL434). $232.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

This very fine concerto is remarkable for its powerful expression associated with the minor mode, for its active contrapuntal writing, and for its rich chromatic harmony. In the first movement the highly effective solo part makes the most of the resonating properties of the key of A minor, from the ingenious opening variant of the motto to the brilliant capriccio around the open E string that leads to the final Da Capo. $11.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Violin & orchestra SKU: HH.HH029-MIN Composed by Andrea Zani. Edited by J. Hirshberg and S. McVeigh. Violin & Orchestra. Miniature score. Edition HH Music Publishers #HH029-MIN. Published by Edition HH Music Publishers (HH.HH029-MIN). ISBN 9790708024750. This fine concerto shares its motto with Tomaso Albinoni's oboe concerto in G minor Op. 9 No. 8, published in 1722, and with Antonio Vivaldi's violin concerto in G minor, RV 317, published in 1729 as Op. 12 No. 1. It is very likely that Zani deliberately borrowed the beautiful motto as a homage to the famous masters; and the same motive recurs in the third movement in a subtle variant. $11.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks
