Many fictional works portray the moon as a living being, alone in space looking at the Earth. This lullaby honors this living moon, portraying various emotions including the loneliness of seeing us from space. It also includes moments of comfort as the moon proudly watches over us, much as a parent watches over a child. Simply stunning, whether you have a grade 2 or a grade 6 ensemble.

Moon Song, Sun Dance was commissioned by flugel horn virtuoso, Claude Romailler, and premiered by him at the Swiss National Solo andQuartet Championships in April 2012.As the title implies, the work is in two contrasting movements, which can be performed separately or together.Moon Song opens with a flowing modal theme, which the soloist embellishes before the band takes centre stage.A central section brightens the mood with a new melody over the lightest of accompaniments; this is once again developed by the soloist until the original theme reappears, played by the band. This introduces a cadenza for the soloist which either closes the movement, or can be extended to link directly to the second movement.Sun Dance is a vivace 6/8 scherzo which opens with a flourish from the band. The soloist then introduces the main theme, which in turn is taken up by the band. A short bridge passage heralds a change of key and a new melody from the soloist. A brief central interlude then introduces a change of meter and recalls the main melody of Moon Song, before a recapitulation leads to a florid coda, which brings the work to a close.Solo part: difficulty 5.

Crescent Moon is a festive overture composed by Jan Van der Roost and was commissioned by a Japanese wind band. The piece begins solemnly in the middle register but gradually becomes brighter and more brilliant as the moon rises in the sky and begins to give more light. After this somewhat stately introduction, a virtuoso allegro emerges, displaying technical prowess in all registers, before the piece culminates with a joyful mood of optimism. An ideal concert opener, Crescent Moon will fill your ears with joy and happiness!

Set includes 2 performance scoresMoon Marked (2016) was written for trumpeter Chris Gekker. A figure (acciaccatura-like) is heard at the very start of the work. It forms the basis of the piece's musical material. The loose poetic image behind the music is one of internal transformation after passing through a shared experience. Some astronauts have commented on how they are forever changed by their interstellar voyages and that their life back on earth is not quite the same. After the largely energetic opening section, two slower inner sections explore different landscapes; in the second of these sections, the two instruments are uncoordinated metrically (freely floating in their own space). The opening music returns, but with differences this time. Instrumentation: Clarinet and Trumpet Duration: 6' Composed: 2016 Published by: Zimbel Press.

Julian Lloyd Webber writes: My father composed his four part song The Moon in 1959 to words by W.H Davies. The text — as in so many of his word settings — equates nature with humanity: Thy beauty haunts me, heart and soul. Although The Moon remained unperformed until his centenary year in 2014 he evidently felt strongly enough about it to create this miniature for string orchestra. This work has been recorded in a performance conducted by Julian Lloyd Webber, available from Naxos: No. 8.573250.A miniature for String OrchestraEdited by Julian Lloyd WebberThis set includes a full score plus a set of 10 parts: 3 x violin 1, 2 x violin 2, 2 x viola, 2 x cello, 1 x double bass.Additional parts are available from Clifton Edition.Former Spartan Press Cat. Moon and Sun (for two soprano soloists and mixed choir) is a setting of verses from the Kalevala, the most famous of Finland's poetic folk-epics. The Mistress of the North has buried the moon's face in the motley stone, charmed the day's dawning deep into the steely mountainside with her song. Viitanen combines a contemporary musical style with folk ballad melodies from the southern Baltic, and applies the relative distances between the stars of Ursa Major and Ursa Minor constellations, according to his own formula.

Destination Moon was first performed by Cory Band at the 2017 European Championships in Ostend, Belgium, and is inspired by the Belgian comic-book hero Tintin. The first part is called 'Science' and describes the development of the theory of space travel. The second part is 'Humanity' which addresses human concerns and philosophies about our place in the universe. The third part is 'The Launch' which ends with a repetition of the words 'Earth to Moon Rocket - are you receiving me?' as the rocket vanishes into a tiny speck in the sky.
