Gabriel Fauré?s 13 Barcarolles composed over a period of almost four decades (1882 1921) are highly representative of his output for piano and are regarded as his most characteristic works. They reflect his breaking free from the Romantic idiom particularly that of Chopin and Mendelssohn developing an independent musical language in which he combined tradition and the emerging modernism. These important works are now made available in scholarly-critical Urtext editions based on the ?uvres complètes de Gabriel Fauré and reflect the latest state of research. Detailed forewords offer information on the genesis and significance of thecompositions as well as valuable suggestions on historical interpretation. All the available manuscript and printed sources as well as piano rolls containing recordings by the composer have been taken into consideration leading to new discoveries particularly regarding the Valses-Caprices.Based on the ?uvres complètes de Gabriel FauréBased on the latest research findings and extensive source studiesInformative forewords with advice on performance practice (Fr/Eng/Ger)Christophe Grabowski is a French pianist and doctor of musicology and studied in Warsaw and Paris. In addition to his best-known field of creativity Organ music his choral compositions form another major part of his oeuvre. This edition contains a selection of his sacred a cappella choral works. For Teresa was commissioned by Tim Suter for his wife Helen as part of William Howard’s Love Songs Project and was first performed privately by William Howard for her 60th birthday in February 2017. He gave the public premiere at Hoxton Hall London on 26th April 2017. The music is based on the notes T E S (E flat) A of the Christian name of the composer’s wife Teresa Cahill. The music works towards a quotation of the opening of Beethoven’s Bagatelle No. 25 in A minor  FĂĽr Elise (which also uses letters from the name Therese H being B natural in German nomenclature) a piece which it isnow thought was originally titled FĂĽr Therese and possibly composed for Theresa Malfatti to whom Beethoven unsuccessfully proposed marriage in 1810 but recent musicology has suggested other possible dedicatees.

Par PURCELL HENRY. Purcell Dido and Aeneas (Full Score, paperback) The opera ?Dido and Aeneas?, a recount of the well-known story from Book IV of Virgil's Aeneid, has established itself as a favourite with the public. This is due to the skill of composer Henry Purcell and his librettist Nahum Tate, who combined an overriding tragic theme with masterfully inserted comic episodes. Long believed to have been conceived in 1689 for a performance at a ?School for Young Gentlewomen?, scholars have debated the origins of ?Dido? in recent decades, a process hampered by the lack of early musical sources. This edition addresses these challenges and evaluates the earliest sources that reproduce the opera in its surviving form. Surprisingly, these date from the 1770s and 80s, some ninety years after the work was written. Three key manuscripts ? now held at the Bodleian Library in Oxford (UK), at Tatton Park Library which is a National Trust property near Manchester (UK), and at the Wakayama Prefectural Library (Japan) - were all copied from the same original, most likely a handwritten score from 1704 which reappeared in the early 1770s, only to disappear again. This is the first 'Dido' edition based on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source. It was produced during the second half of the 18th century by Philip Hayes, one of England's most prominent musicians. He was known in musicology for his meticulous copies of Purcell's music, often from the autograph manuscripts. The Bodleian and Wakayama manuscripts are presented in a new light and their role in this edition has been reassessed accordingly. - Urtext edition based for the first time on the Tatton Park manuscript as the main source - Informative Foreword (Eng/Ger) on the genesis, transmission, reception and performance practice - Complete facsimile reproduction of the Chelsea libretto / Date parution : 2023-06-01/ RĂ©pertoire / Solistes, Choeur Mixte et Orchestre

An Operatic Fantasy in Five Acts-The Tales of Hoffmann (Les Contes d'Hoffmann) Libretto based on the play of the same name by Jules Barbier and Michael Carre by Jules Barbier. New critical edition based on original sources by Fritz Oeser. The purpose of the new edition was to discover the intentions of the author through the sources and to make it playable despite its fragmentary quality. Because the long searched-for manuscripts did happily come to light at last this edition is fundamentally different from all others. Moreover it has the smallest number of editorial admixtures. With the exception of Guiraud's additions every bar of the present version is derived from Offenbach. Thequestion of whether this edition was or is necessary is largely the concern of conductors stage-directors and set-designers. If they are interested in keeping a tradition alive then after a hundred years they deserve whatever support musicologY can provide. Par BRAHMS JOHANNES. '… and so gladly would I have given you a hundred-thousand kisses!”- Georg Friedrich Daumer
A circle of friends as a vocal quartet alternating with solo voices and two good pianists - Brahms wrote his 'Liebeslieder Walzer” not for the grand concert hall but as chamber music for use at home. His first collection op. 52 was so successful that in 1874 he wrote a new set on poems by Daumer and Goethe entitled 'Neue Liebeslieder”.
In 2010 the Swiss bank UBS placed the autograph of the Neue Liebeslieder on permanent loan to the music room of the Zentralbibliothek ZĂĽrich.
For this occasion the library, together with the Brahms Institute of Lübeck University of Music and the musicology department of Zurich University, organised a symposium on the 'Liebeslieder Walzer” and their context.
Brahms' lavishly reproduced manuscript appears in its own hand-stitched volume accompanied by the papers featured at the authoritative symposium in a separate booklet. All of this is presented in a handsome cloth-bound box along with an audio CD, allowing the work to be experienced both visually and aurally./ Répertoire / Fac-similé

In autumn 1827 Schubert composed eight 'Impromptus' for publication as a complete collection by Haslinger in Vienna. When the plan fell through Schubert offered his 'Impromptus' to Schott as pieces which 'could be issued individually or all four together'. The name of the works probably originated from the publisher Haslinger and Schubert also used it for his collection published later as op. posth. 142. The lyrical-romantic works are suitable for advanced piano students and have the character of sonata movements. Robert Schumann who regarded them as parts of a four-movement sonata drew attention to the second collection published by Diabelli in 1839 in hisreview. For the first time this scholarly-critical Urtext edition presents the musical text of the 'New Schubert Edition' in new engraving and with optimum page-turns. c-Moll C minor ut mineur. C.P.E. Bach?s Solfeggio (also commonly known as Solfeggietto) provides a thrilling sprint for the fingers around the keyboard in 60 seconds of pure musical energy. The title, referring to the solfège exercises commonly given to singers, indicates a piece that is designed to develop technique. But the panache with which Bach flies through the scales and arpeggios of this piece make it both a satisfying and highly-effective practice piece as well as a reliable concert showstopper for pianists moving past the first stages of learning. This new Urtext edition has been produced by the internationally renowned C.P.E. Bach expert Wolfram Enßlin and brings together the highest level of musicology with a beautifully prepared and practical edition. Contains a preface and critical commentary in German, English and French.

Miguel Alcdzar was born in Mexico City on April 26 1942. He followed a professional career which involved activities in the fields of performance, pedagogy, musicology and composition. He gave the first performances of the Concertino by Blas Galindo, with the composer himself conducting the National Symphony Orchestra of Mexico, the Concierto of Manuel Ponce, in its original version, the Concerto of Michael Horvit, which was dedicated to Alcázar, the Concierto of Enrique Santos, with the American Wind Symphony Orchestra, and the 24 Preludios of Ponce. His recorded output includes music for baroque guitar of music in the manuscript 1560 in the Biblioteca Nacional, works by Bach and Weiss for lute, as well as unpublished music by Ponce and other Latin-American composers. Alcázar has been a faculty member of the Cleveland Institute of Music, the Conservatorio Nacional de Música, where he received his degree with honors in 1972, and later at the University of Veracruz. His publications of Mexican music were published by the Liga de Compositores de Mexico, the University of Veracruz, Tecla Editions of London and Editions Orphée. miguel.jpg (6157 bytes)The 12 Preludios were written by Miguel Alcázar as the result of his first two trips to the Soviet Union. During the first trip, in November-December of 1983, he met Nikita Koshkin during the presentation of Alcázar's work at the Union of Composers in Moscow. A few days later, he promised to write something for him, as a way of commemorating the beginning of their friendship, if Alcázar would write also something for Koshkin. Both agreed upon this and when Alcázar went back to the Soviet Union, for the International Music Festival held in May of 1984, Koshkin gave him The Elves, a suite in five movements. The composition of the 12 Preludios was started during the Christmas vacation of 1984 and terminated by mid-January of 1985. Both works, The Elves and the 12 Preludios were premiered by Alcázar at the Ponce Hall of the Fine Arts Palace in Mexico City on March 15 of 1988.

Volume II: Biography Biography [Book] Dover Publications
Johann Sebastian Bach Volume II. This monumental study of Johann Sebastian Bach...(+)
Johann Sebastian Bach Volume II. This monumental study of Johann Sebastian Bach ranks among the great classics of musicology. Since its first publication in 1873-80, it has remained the basic work on Bach and the foundation of later research and study. The three-part treatment describes in chronological sequence practically everything that is known of the composer's life: his ancestry, his immediate family, his associations, his employers, and the countless occasions on which his musical genius emerged. Author Philipp Spitta accompanies this biographical material with quotations from primary sources: correspondence, family records, diaries, official documents, and more. In addition to biographical data, Spitta reviews Bach's musical production, with analyses of more than 500 pieces, covering all the important works. More than 450 musical excerpts are included in the main text, and a 43-page musical supplement illustrates longer passages. Despite the scholarly nature of this work, it also has the rare distinction of being a study that can be read with considerable enjoyment and great profit by every serious music lover, with or without a substantial background in the history of music or musical theory.
