The names of George Gershwin (1898-1937) and Ira Gershwin (1896-1983) are synonymous across the globe with American musical creativity. The Gershwin family estates, their publishers, and the University of Michigan have joined forces to produce The George and Ira Gershwin Critical EditionÂ?the first-ever scholarly edition of the Gershwins' music and lyrics. This all-new practical edition facilitates both study and performance, giving a wide audience of musicians, scholars, students, and enthusiasts alike greater insight into the GershwinsÂ? art. The goal is to create clear and definitive publications that achieve the most accurate representations possible of the Gershwin brothers' unique and pioneering creativity. The edition represents as best as possible the piece as premiered by the Paul Whiteman Orchestra at his â??Experiment in Modern Musicâ? concert on February 12, 1924. Grofé prepared the score for the specific talents and timbres of the Whiteman Orchestra, largely from an ink fair copy of Gershwin's two-piano short-score manuscript. Chamber Music Flute, Piano, Piccolo SKU: PR.114418820 For Piccolo, Flu...(+)
Chamber Music Flute, Piano, Piccolo SKU: PR.114418820 For Piccolo, Flute, and Chamber Orchestra (or Piano), TWV 52:e1. Composed by Georg Philipp Telemann. Arranged by Valerie Shields Zart Dombourian-Eby. Set of Score and Parts. With Standard notation. 32+12+12 pages. Duration 14 minutes. Theodore Presser Company #114-41882. Published by Theodore Presser Company (PR.114418820). ISBN 9781491113998. UPC: 680160667697. Composed by Telemann as a double concerto for recorder and transverse flute, Zart Dombourian-Eby’s new edition is prepared for piccolo, flute, and piano — remaining compatible with available orchestral editions, and respectfully faithful to Telemann’s detailed nuances. Cast in the slow-fast, slow-fast four-movement mold typical of Baroque concert works, the CONCERTO IN E MINOR is at once among the most beautiful and exhilarating works of Telemann’s formidable output.______________________________________Text from the scanned back cover:ZART DOMBOURIAN-EBY is the Principal Piccoloist of the SeattleSymphony and is regularly featured as both a soloist and clinician in Seattle and across the world. Her performances consistently receive highest praise from both critics and audiences. A native of New Orleans, she received B.A. and M.M. degrees from Louisiana State University. After a year of study with Albert Tipton she attended Northwestern University earning a Doctor of Music degree under the tutelage of Walfrid Kujala. She has been a member of the New Orleans Pops, Baton Rouge Symphony, Colorado Philharmonic, and the Civic Orchestra of Chicago. She has performed with the Chicago Symphony and served on the faculties of the University of Washington and Pacific Lutheran University. She was the founding editor of Flute Talk and ison the Editorial Board for The Flutist Quarterly. Zart is the immediate past president of the National Flute Association, and been a featured soloist and presenter at numerous NFA conventions. Zart has commissioned numerous works, including two for piccolo and piano by Martin Amlin, sonatas by Gary Schocker and Levente Gyongyosi, and a chamber work by Ken Benshoof. She can be heard in over 100 recordings by the Seattle Symphony, and her solo CD, in shadow, light, is available on Crystal Records. Her award-winning edition of the three Vivaldi piccolo concertos is published by Theodore Presser.A native of Seattle, VALERIE SHIELDS received her B.M. summa cum laude in organ and violin from St. Olaf College. While completing her M.M. from Northwestern University, she became increasingly interested and skilled in the art of improvisation. She served as Director of Music at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she developed a music program involving over 150 participants in choirs and chamber music groups.Upon her return to Seattle, she served for 12 years as director of adivision of the Northwest Girlchoir. She became organist and developed a vibrant Youth Choir at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, where she served for over 30 years, as well as enjoying a 20-year tenure as Music Director and Composer-in-Residence of Temple De Hirsch Sinai. Valerie’s work with children’s choirs, churches, and synagogues has inspired over 100 published compositions. When I was invited to perform a Vivaldi piccolo concerto in Italy a few years ago, my host, Luisa Sello, wrote that Carol Wincenc was going to be on the same concert, and was there any piece that we could play together? I looked and asked around, and my colleague Joanna Bassett recommended the Telemann Concerto in E Minor for Traverso and Recorder. I didn’t know the piece, but as I listened to a recording of it, I immediately loved it and could easily envision how beautifully it could work, with a few “adjustments,†for flute and piccolo. I got to work, and the current publication is the result. I have performed it many times, and enjoy it even more every time. It fits a unique place in our repertoire, and works equally well with piano as with the string orchestra setting.According to Steven D. Zohn, pre-eminent Telemann scholar, and author of Music for a Mixed Taste: Style, Genre, and Meaning in Telemann’s Instrumental Works, much is unknown about the concerto itself; it likely dates from the 1720s, soon after Telemann moved to Hamburg. Only an eighteenth-century copyist’s set of parts is extant, that of Johann Samuel Endler, who was engaged at the Darmstadt court as a singer and violinist, later becoming Vice-Kapellmeister and Kapellmeister, and who had a large collection of Telemann’s works. As in my Vivaldi concertos edition (Presser 414-41190), I have added virtually all of the articulations and dynamics that appear here, and have inserted quite a bit of ornamentation. Unlike the Vivaldi edition, I have not included any indication of the original Telemann in those passages, nor have I included any pedagogical markings, such as fingerings. Finally, I would like to acknowledge, with gratitude, Joanna Bassett, Daniel Dorff, Benton Gordon, Evan Pengra-Sult, Sandra Saathoff, Valerie Shields, Carol Wincenc, and Steven Zohn, for the various roles they played in the making of this publication.— Zart Dombourian-EbyJune 2018. $34.99 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

Guitar - Intermediate SKU: OT.26114 Composed by Ariel Lazarus. A short suite for classical guitar based on themes from the Spanish and Portuguese tradition. Classical. Score. OR-TAV Music Publications #26114. Published by OR-TAV Music Publications (OT.26114). ISBN 9789655051049. 8.27 x 11.69 inches. Ariel Lazarus Guitarra Liturgia Two pieces based on music from the Spanish and Portuguese tradition. Contents: Jerusalem de Sefarad - Suite for Guitar Contrapunto Sefardi The composer writes: For many years I wanted to compose a piece for guitar which would inspire interested students to expand their repertoire in the direction of Jewish music. The most natural thing for me was to write a suite based on themes from the synagogue in which I grew up – the Spanish and Portuguese synagogue of Gibraltar. My beloved grandfather served all his life as hazzan (cantor) of this synagogue, and I always felt as a composer and educator that I had a special obligation to continue his tradition and pass it on to a new generation. In this composition, I let the guitar echo the piyyutim (semi-liturgical poems) that were part of my childhood: Adon Olam, Sh'charchoret, Achot K'tana, Yigdal, Borei ad Ana, all of which are sung in the Spanish and Portuguese tradition from Gibraltar to London, and from New York to Jerusalem. I let myself dream the piyyutim, take them apart and reconstruct them as a short suite for guitar, the results of which you are invited to hear here. As a conceptual idea for the suite, I choose to suggest about the cultural continuation between the Diaspora and the land of Israel by way of referencing the well-known melody of Naomi Shemer, which is also popular among the hazzanim. Dr. Ariel Lazarus is a unique voice among Israeli composer-performers today. Brought up in a family with Jewish musical roots both in Gibraltar and Westphalia, he began composing and playing the guitar in his teens, and has been committed to developing his own compositional language ever since, always maintaining an open dialogue with his traditions. Lazarus received his BMus and MMus degrees from Oklahoma City University in classical guitar performance and composition where he studied with American composer Dr. Edward Knight. He earned his PhD from Bar Ilan University, studying composition with Prof. Betty Olivero and Prof. Gideon Lewensohn and conducting research under the supervision of Prof. Edwin Seroussi from the Hebrew University. His symphonic works have been premiered by the Raanana Symphonette Orchestra, and his chamber works have been performed by various ensembles in the United States, Central Europe, Portugal, Gibraltar, Scandinavia and Israel. Lazarus performs regularly as Art Ambassador on behalf of the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora affairs Amiel BaKehila program. His solo album A Hebrew Capriccio was released by the German boutique label SmoothFactor and was awarded critical acclaim, among others, in Haaretz, and Neue Westfalishe. Dr. Lazarus is the musical director and co-founder of the Israeli Ladino Orchestra. His work with the orchestra has been recognized by the official Carta de España. He teaches at the Academic College for Education Givat Washington, and the Rimon School of Music. Lazarus’s work has been awarded by the Israeli Pais Art council and ACUM. $12.44 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 4 to 6 weeks

Choir Sacred Choir SATB, Organ (SATB choir) SKU: PE.EP73460 Composed by Alexander Levine. Edited by Henry Vaughan. Choral Works (Sacred). Edition Peters. Choral Octavo. 24 pages. Edition Peters #98-EP73460. Published by Edition Peters (PE.EP73460). ISBN 9790577019512. 297 x 210mm inches. English. The text comes from the pen of the seventeenth-century Welsh poet Henry Vaughan, a leading metaphysical voice during the Commonwealth period (1649-1660), when the republican government of Oliver Cromwell banned the Anglican Church.
Christ's Nativity was commissioned by the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C. with support from the Richard Wayne Dirksen Memorial Endowment Fund. The selected lyrics by Welsh poet Henry Vaughan fascinated me immensely and therfore prompted me to think about a specific musical environment for the piece, best suited for merging the music into this wonderful poetic landscape. This poetry brings about a strong mixture of the Evangelical mystery of Christ's Nativity, mystically evoked by Nature, and at the same time reveals the optimism and drama of an ordinary individual that any human being can easily identify with.

Beginning in 2010, according to the Curator of the Normandy France Museum, a CD of the work is played each June 6th in honor of D-Day. On December 28, 2018, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill making Here Rests in Honored Glory the Official New York State Hymn of Remembrance for all American Veterans. $35.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 24 hours - In Stock

Organ - Advanced SKU: MN.12-128 Composed by Harold Stover. Non Hymn-Based, Recital Music. General. Instrumental part. MorningStar Music Publishers #12-128. Published by MorningStar Music Publishers (MN.12-128). UPC: 688670121289. The three movements that make up Nocturnes, Book I are programmatic pieces that take as their points of departure a painting, the rhythms of a great city, and a poem. 1. The Starry Night is a written down improvisation based on Vincent van Goghs famous picture of the same name. The tonal material is a quite literal transformation of the visual elements of the painting: the melismatic cadenzas mirror van Goghs swirling starlight, and the powerful chords were suggested by the sinister trees that shoot upward to puncture the skys patterns. 2. Stovers Rag is a product of the ragtime revival of the early 1970s, when many composers tried their hand at writing concert rags. The New York night, which was not without its sinister element in those days, is expressed in an updating of the classic ragtime format. The piece looks backward as well, with the old French Baroque basse de trompette making an appearance in the trio section. 3. The Song of Shadows taps the nostalgic mood typical of the poetry of Walter de la Mare. The poem of the same name pictures a lone musician on a winter night, an dog sleeping before a sinking fire, and, at the end, the spirits that are summoned by music. The opening melody, played on an 8 flute with tremulant, suggests the blues-tinged sound of an alto saxophone, and throughout the movement the organs capacity for sustained tone is used to suggest and atmosphere of dreamy timelessness. The pieces were written in 1971 and first performed on July 2, 1972 at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, with the composer at the console. $22.00 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 1 to 2 weeks

UPC: 888680866952. 8.5x11.75x0.543 inches. “Composed in 1978 by Henri Dutilleux, Timbres, Space, Movement is a work for Orchestra, also named ?The starry night? after a painting by Van Gogh. It was commisioned by Mstislav Rostropovich for the National Symphony Orchestra of Washington and is dedicated to Charles Münch. This great orchestral work lasts approximately 20 minutes and depicts the content of the painting. It is written for a full orchestra without Violins or Violas. A sketch of the placement of the instruments is given in the book as its disposition differs from a full orchestra: The Cellos placed in a half-circle in front of the conductor. The Cellos represents the space with twirling solos and more stagnant sections while the lack of Violins and Violas is for the quiet and motionless part of the painting. The solo of the Winds and Drums characterizes the clouds and the light of the moon and the stars. It is divided in two parts: 1. Nébuleuse (Nebula) and 2.Constellations, which are divided by a Cello interlude. Henri Dutilleux was internationally acclaimed for his work winning prizes such as the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society and the UNESCO's International Rostrum of Composers, amongst many others. His work also includes a Piano sonata, two symphonies, the Violin concerto 'L'arbre des songes' (The tree of dreams) and the Cello concerto 'Tout un monde lointain' (A whole distant word).â€. $85.80 - See more - Buy online

Guitar; Chamber Music for Strings SKU: UT.BCE-8 Composed by Luigi Boccherini. Edited by Andrea Schiavina and Fulvia Morabito. Hardback (Cloth Hard Cover). Luigi Boccherini Opera Omnia. Classical. Ut Orpheus #BCE 8. Published by Ut Orpheus (UT.BCE-8). ISBN 9790215325388. 9 x 12 inches. The Quintets nos. 1-7, 9 and the 12 Variazioni sulla Ritirata di Madrid, for guitar and string quartet, are not listed in Boccherini’s autograph catalogues, nor in the Catalogo Boccherini y Calonje, nor in the Catalogue Baillot. However they are mentioned in the Catalogue Picquot, and they have come down to us through three non-autograph manuscripts and three unauthorized printed editions of the early twentieth century. The documentary evidence establishes their authorship, their dating and the relevant musical source, as the single movements for the most part are transcriptions of compositions for other instrumental settings.
The primary source of the Quintets 1-6 is ms. Wc, Washington (DC), Library of Congress, Ms. M. 574. B Case, olim M. 572. B65 Case [RISM A/II: deest]. Written in Madrid in 1811 by François de Fossa, it derives from a copy prepared by Boccherini for the commissioner of the pieces, Francisco Borja de Riquer y de Ros, marquis of Benavent, an amateur guitarist and patron of Boccherini from 1796.
The primary source of the Quintets 7, 9 and the 12 Variazioni sulla Ritirata di Madrid is ms. L520, a codex comprising 5 volumes, dating from the first half of the nineteenth century, certainly assembled at Bar-Le-Duc, the residence of Louis Picquot from 1832 to 1853, who probably was the commissioner and first owner. Upon Picquot’s death, the codex was sold at auction in 1904 by the Berlin antiquarian Leo Liepmannssohn as lot 520. In 1911 it was acquired by the Gitarristische Vereinigung of Munich. During the twentieth century this institution dissolved, and the ex lot 520 passed into anonymous private hands. Rediscovered and examined in 2010 by Andreas Stevens and Fulvia Morabito, the codex was acquired by the Bayerische Staatsbibliothek in Munich. $214.95 - See more - Buy onlinePre-shipment lead time: 3 to 4 weeks
