Three Expeditions is a collection and adaptation of the three solo movements from my work Summit, originally commissioned by Drs. Jerry and Barbara Young for premiere at the 2010 International Tuba Euphonium Conference. That work, as premiered by Brian Bowman, Neal Corwell, Steven Mead, John Mueller, and David Werden requires substantially more forces than are often available for most opportunities at most venues. The present work allows for an artistically satisfying transformation of its parent, offering the willing soloist an opportunity to perform a completely new work in a very practical, though no less exciting, way.

A delightful combination of lyrical themes with rhythmic exuberance and folk-like melodies. Viva Espania is based on themes by two 19th-century Spanish composers. The opening theme is from Recuerdos de la Alhambra by Francisco Tarrega. That piece is a traditional Spanish waltz and was inspired by the famous Alhambra Castle in Grenada. The second theme is by Isaac Albeniz from a suite of music for the piano, Songs of Spain, entitled Leyenda. This section, while still in 3/4 has a fiery exuberance much like one would expect from a flamenco guitarist, yet it's very playable by young players. Authentic Spanish music that's a terrific addition to any concert performance!

This piece features two solo voices, with the choir (and assembly, if desired) singing the refrain “In cordis jubilo.†The unchanging nature of the refrain makes this arrangement ideal for a processional.

This lively triple-meter dance from the 16th century is very popular with classical guitarists and is now a wonderful addition to the string orchestra repertoire. Pizzicato accompaniments interact with a playful melody that is cleverly developed throughout the ensemble. A delightful work perfect as a change of pace on any program.

Newly released work, commissioned by Pat Stuckemeyer in Fall 2005. This work is in three movements. The first is a fast dance with a slow rubato section. The second movement really brings out the nuances of the euphonium with its rich, lush texture. The third movement charges forward until the ending. The piece is approximately 15 minutes in duration, and should be quite a challenge to performers of any age level!

Set in five continuous variation movements, Atomic Variations explores some of the basic science, romance and popular mythology of the atomic bomb. Sometimes chillingly calculated, sometimes warm and humanized, the work makes an epic love story of the physics and forces that comprise the bomb. In its occasional lyricism, the work is never far from a sense of foreboding inevitability - the consequences of which, though the result of natural, even predictable processes, possess the most unthinkable known to humanity. The five movements of Atomic Variations are titled: I. Inertia, II. Pas de Deux, III. Separation Anxiety, IV. Murder by Numbers and V. None Shall Sleep (after Giacomo Puccini).

Orchestral study score. This work was commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. It was first performed on 23 April 1997, by Stewart McIlwham and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by the composer. The three movements should be played without a break. The piccolo may have obvious limitations as a solo instrument, but Davies is not one to shirk a challenge. What he does is to play with the stereotypical modes of the instrument, so that the military pipe and drum effect is hinted at near the beginning of the third movement, while the jaunty manner is recalled at the close of the first, but as through a veil. A potentially comic partnership with the bass clarinet is also dignified when the two instruments engage in meditative dialogue in the second movement. Solo part and piano reduction on sale. Conductor's score and orchestral parts are available on hire.

Composer Terre Johnson sets an adaptation of Isaiah 40:21 in the first person, so it appears as if God is speaking through the choir in this anthem of reassurance. The violin and clarinet sometimes support and sometimes soar above the choir. Easy unison writing makes this a useful and satisfying offering, especially appropriate for the Fifth Sunday after Epiphany, Year B. Duration: 3:00.

This work was commissioned in 1996 by the Palmetto Mastersingers of Columbia, SC and was premiered there by that ensemble in 1997.
The piece is a neo-Baroque setting of the traditional, liturgical Latin text in 5 movements and was originally conceived for TTBB chorus with 10 brass and 2 percussion. The premiere performance of the composition was performed in this format.
Some years hence, the composer was asked to create a full orchestral arrangement of the piece for SATB, rather than male, chorus. This version was first performed by the chorus of La maîtrise Saint-Léonard in Fougères, France, under the baton of eminent conductor Alain Nogrix.
Either voicing of this work may be performed using the full orchestral or the brass and percussion version of this work. The full orchestral accompaniment is available on a rental-only basis, while the brass and percussion accompaniment is available for purchase [RBM-203].

The Missa Dei Patris ZWV 19 was composed in 1740 and ranks among the later works of the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. It opens an incompletely transmitted cycle of six masses which the composer himself designated as Missae ultimae. The musical text of the present conductor's score is based on that of Volume 93 of the Denkmaler edition Das Erbe deutscher Musik. The new piano vocal score has been edited by the reputable expert Andreas Kohs. Zelenka's artistic personality, his biography and his compositional style are utterly distinctive. His style is highly experimental. Was Zelenka really one of the greatest composers of the 18th century, or only one of the most interesting? I think that he still has several surprises for us. Jérôme Duval lived in the late 18th and early 19th century. Despite his very French name, it would appear that he worked for some time in Germany, as his Opus 2, 3 and 4 were all published in Hamburg. Opus 2, which includes this Trio, Op. 2 No. 2 for two flutes and bassoon, can be assigned a tentative publications date of 1810. There are three Trios in Opus 2, Opus 3 consists of three Duos Concertants for flute and violin, and Opus 4 contains three Duos for two violins. The rest of Duval’s output includes three Quartets published in Brussels and a further Hamburg publication for voice and piano with the delightful title: Femmes sensibles écoutent le ramage - which means sensitive women listening to birdsong. The source for this edition of Trio Op. 2 No. 2 is the copy held in the British Library (shelf mark g.693.) The music was typeset by C.M.M. and F.H. Nex and replaces PP563. Prelude to Mastery The Missa Sanctissimae Trinitatis was probably composed within a few weeks in the late fall of 1736, an occasion for the composition is not recorded. With this mass, the first in a series of five late masses, Jan Dismas Zelenka entered upon the phase of his masterful late works. Its spacious conception abundant in numbers, stylistic and compositional wealth, as well as its vehement, musical expressive power clearly differentiate this work from Zelenka's previous masses. This new edition is based on the corresponding volume of the series Das Erbe deutscher Musik, from which the preface and critical report also derive.Have a look into the piano vocal score.
